This exact moment (11:34) when Fate-Shirou muses about the idea of using a "miracle" to save others is the definitive moment that separates him from Kiritsugu and Archer and why he'll never end up becoming either even in the Fate timeline, and if anything, is the timeline where it's least likely to happen even when compared to HF. Kiritsugu sought out a miracle in order to "save the world" as it were, but eventually realized that no such thing existed and that everything he sacrificed throughout his life (including his own family) was in vain and dies with only the small comfort that he at least saved Shirou's life. Archer on the other hand managed to achieve a miracle through his contract with Alaya, but paid the ultimate price in death as he became a Counter Guardian and cursed to forever fight an endless battle so long as humanity itself exists. Fate-Shirou on the other hand completely rejects the idea of a miracle, making peace with his past and deciding to accept the present for what it is in order to move forward with his life (which in turn also inspires Saber to make the same choice) And unlike his father and Archer who both upheld their ideals because of their perceived failures in life and wanting to make up for that, Shirou's love for Saber gives him a renewed reason to uphold his ideals: honoring her memory and with hopes that maybe one day the two of them could be reunited which eventually happens in Last Episode as both reunite in Avalon. Honestly, this is why I always loved the Fate route so much and Last Episode made it all the more better. Shirou may not go through as much extensive growth like in UBW or HF, but he definitely does change in Fate and it's all through his relationship with Saber making it possible. I can only hope that one day both Nasu and Ufotable can get it in gear and finally create a Fate route anime remake with Last Episode added to the mix, maybe even bring in the old crew who did the music for the original Fate anime because the OST was just so beautiful and would fit with a remake so much.
People who say fate shirou was bland or didn't have any development weren't paying attention. He found someone and something to save on his own and actually accomplished that. (Directly parallel with Sakura in hf) And as you said, accepting and recognizing the limitations of the ideal while continuing down the road he believes in. (Which was parallel in ubw) This is what saves Arturia as well. So in effect Shirou and Saber saved each other there. Archers entire story is tragic for this reason. He couldn't save saber and he couldn't save himself. In this way fate route I think does a great job of showing all the themes of the whole visual novel including the ones in ubw and hf. Last episode only being unlocked after 100% completion is only right. It brings the story full circle and puts fate in even clearer context to the rest of the vn for those ppl who didn't get it the first time.

Actually it is stated for the most part that he forgot about Saber and didn't really start to recall her until the very end of his life. That whole flashback scene represented it. He's been alive for so long that he forgot what she was even like but at the end of his life he recalled her again

after finishing fate route I was absolutely dejected that I didnt have any motivation to study and do my schoolwork when shirou and saber parted but knowing this existed, I can finally be at peace at last

They have a same spirit and destined to meet each other. Shirou not abandoned his Ideal and truly become a hero,not corrupted. They finally reach Avalon and live happily ever after
We all wanted shirou to see saber in avalon...he deserves to be in avalon with Artoria after all..both of them quite having complicated relationship and yes i would be really happy if this ending show up in remake...no matter how long i need to wait if that happens i be happiest person just like everyone else :)

It never ceases to amaze me how much Nasu has done with the King Arthur Legend and the amazing stories he crafted with it while here in the West, the place where devotion to that myth should ostensibly be at its height, we have gotten nothing but steaming pile of shit after steaming pile of shit ever since the film Excalibur way back in 1981. I cant think of a single King Arthur adaptation that so much as mentions the island of Avalon or any of King Arthurs other weapons, much less does anything with them. Every time I get a little irritated at some of the things they changed around about the legend I remind myself what other adaptations I have to compare it to. Nightmare visions of giant elephants larger than castles and Charlie Hunnam doing bullet time sword fights pops into my head, and immediately my irritation with Fate Stay Night vanishes. Fate Stay Night invested a huge amount into the lore and even gave King Arthur a happy ending after being interred in Avalon, something no other Arthur story has ever done. Now when Arthur returns to save Brittan in its hour of greatest need Shirou will come along and provide some welcome ranged fire support. I will be forever grateful that this exists.

Its one of those movies thats so bad that its worth seeing it just to marvel at what a peice of shit it is. I havent seen Sir Gawain and the Green Knight yet, but I feel in my bones that its going to be terrible as well. I think part of the problem is that Hollywood is so alergic to the idea of monarchy that they cannot bring themselves to depict a heroic king with a straight face. In Legend of the Sword Charlie Hunnam spends a LOT of time talking about how the idea of a King is bullshit, which just makes you wonder why hes trying to become the king to save everyone if he doesn't belive in it.
@@GrimgoreIronhide only reason I even knew a bit of king Arthur's legend when I read fate was because I watched Disney's sword In the stone when I was a kid 😂 Im nowhere near an expert on the subject even if you have to be born under a rock to not know Excalibur and the sword of selection trial. Without a doubt though I can believe what you say. Arturias lore is literally the backstory of fate itself. And whether it's her or the round or some weird fascimile of it(lb6) it's without a doubt the most extensive and ambitious toying with Arthurian legend of pretty much anything anywhere. Nanatsu taizai is probably second but that's nowhere close to as extensive as fate has been(although to be fair that is just a straightforward manga where as nasuverse is tons of stuff)
Actually, the fanbase of the Fate route started a petition to ask ufotable to have a new adaptation made now that the other routes were done by them. You can find it by searching for fate route remake. Even if it won't do much, it looks good if we get a large number on it, and maybe we get an update if it's possible at all or not. I like this video's comments section a lot. Saber was my first love, which is not really meaningful or sensical since she is a fictional character but I don't know how to better express myself. Fate/Stay Night is the most impactful anime for me. I was waking up with the first thing I'd think of being Saber, and going to sleep with the last thing on my mind being Saber, for some 6 months after I finished it. It's been 16 years since then and I still haven't completed the VN. Only broached the Fate route..

Shirou a selfless person has passion to help people with nothing in return, Artoria(Saber) a king whose duty to serve the kingdom and the people of Britain never rewarded herself. Truly fate brought them together separated after destroying the Holy Grail ending the cycle of Holy Grail war. Shirou spends his life finding Artoria, Artoria earns her slumber waiting for the time a miracle would happen after her slumber. At the end both are rewarded with a beautiful reunion and happiness. Best ending after finishing Fate SN yesterday I cried at that ending then finally found this ending which this should be the true ending in Fate SN. But all in all this is beautiful.

After watching the FSN I wasnt completely satisfied how anime has ended and left with some emptiness. Knowing this story has ended well and both of the characters were greatly rewarded has calmed that. Now I can peacefully move on.
@Ibu- in the original visual novel from 2004 the ending of Fate route was how it was in the 2006 anime. Saber disappears and Shirou moves on with his life with her in his memory. This epilogue was first included in the realta nua version of the visual novel that released in 2007

Just yesterday I pulled an all nighter to complete HF good ending after I had abandoned the game for almost 3 years. After getting all the endings I was surprised , I didn't have the slightliest idea that this ending existed. I wonder why Deen never added it to the anime, this would have healed my soul a long time ago. I was wondering all this time why both Rin and Sakura got happy endings (Even Rin gets 2 happy endings lol), but Saber, who was supposed to be the main heroine, didn't. Now I want so badly an Ufotable remake with this ending.
The reason Deen stay night(2006) didn't have it was cause it was not in the original 2004 release. It was added for the realta nua ps2 edition in 2007. But I think that also fits well. This ending works well as a send off not just to fate route but the whole vn coming full circle for shirous character as well as sabers character and the overall thematic element. Hence why you need all five endings to see it. The full impact would be completely lost if this was put at the end of Deen stay night. But I definately agree fate route needs a remake anime to fully show it's worth off as well as add this ending in. I want that so bad

At the time FSN was first released, was really what made us (if you also watched the same time I did hehe) hooked up to the whole Fate series. Having all endings isn't enough to unlock LE. You also need to choose Saber in every available choice. For instance, in UBW you had a choice to make food for Saber or to sneak into Rin's room. If you do the first one, you will have a Saber point. You have to have 4 or 8 Saber points (sorry, i forgot) to unlock LE. It will be enough if you choose Saber everywhere in Fate route and UBW, then you will unlock it.
Saber is the same in all the timelines. Fate, UBW, HF, Archer's and many more. She experiences them all at the same time with her consciousness divided. She gets the memories of all of them when she returns to the Hall of Heroes. So she remembers her Saber Alter life too as well as the Shirou that was her master in Archer's timeline became the Shirou in the other timelines as well as his own too. Because he does the same experiencing them all at the same time. In the end Saber ends in Avalon with Shirou from the Fate route as it was her choice to break her contract. That Shirou never became Archer nor did he learn that Archer was him.

This exact moment (11:34) when Fate-Shirou muses about the idea of using a "miracle" to save others is the definitive moment that separates him from Kiritsugu and Archer and why he'll never end up becoming either even in the Fate timeline, and if anything, is the timeline where it's least likely to happen even when compared to HF.
Kiritsugu sought out a miracle in order to "save the world" as it were, but eventually realized that no such thing existed and that everything he sacrificed throughout his life (including his own family) was in vain and dies with only the small comfort that he at least saved Shirou's life. Archer on the other hand managed to achieve a miracle through his contract with Alaya, but paid the ultimate price in death as he became a Counter Guardian and cursed to forever fight an endless battle so long as humanity itself exists.
Fate-Shirou on the other hand completely rejects the idea of a miracle, making peace with his past and deciding to accept the present for what it is in order to move forward with his life (which in turn also inspires Saber to make the same choice) And unlike his father and Archer who both upheld their ideals because of their perceived failures in life and wanting to make up for that, Shirou's love for Saber gives him a renewed reason to uphold his ideals: honoring her memory and with hopes that maybe one day the two of them could be reunited which eventually happens in Last Episode as both reunite in Avalon.
Honestly, this is why I always loved the Fate route so much and Last Episode made it all the more better. Shirou may not go through as much extensive growth like in UBW or HF, but he definitely does change in Fate and it's all through his relationship with Saber making it possible. I can only hope that one day both Nasu and Ufotable can get it in gear and finally create a Fate route anime remake with Last Episode added to the mix, maybe even bring in the old crew who did the music for the original Fate anime because the OST was just so beautiful and would fit with a remake so much.
People who say fate shirou was bland or didn't have any development weren't paying attention.
He found someone and something to save on his own and actually accomplished that. (Directly parallel with Sakura in hf)
And as you said, accepting and recognizing the limitations of the ideal while continuing down the road he believes in. (Which was parallel in ubw)
This is what saves Arturia as well. So in effect Shirou and Saber saved each other there.
Archers entire story is tragic for this reason. He couldn't save saber and he couldn't save himself.
In this way fate route I think does a great job of showing all the themes of the whole visual novel including the ones in ubw and hf.
Last episode only being unlocked after 100% completion is only right. It brings the story full circle and puts fate in even clearer context to the rest of the vn for those ppl who didn't get it the first time.
I always said that Saber was best girl because she was literally his dream. She was the impossible hero he wanted to be, she was his ideals in the flesh and it is only through her guidance and love that he manages to turn into a true hero himself.

Actually it is stated for the most part that he forgot about Saber and didn't really start to recall her until the very end of his life. That whole flashback scene represented it. He's been alive for so long that he forgot what she was even like but at the end of his life he recalled her again

One of the most beautiful pieces of writing I've ever seen. Thank you Nasu for this. And Ufotable... You know, do your thing.
It never ceases to amaze me how much Nasu has done with the King Arthur Legend and the amazing stories he crafted with it while here in the West, the place where devotion to that myth should ostensibly be at its height, we have gotten nothing but steaming pile of shit after steaming pile of shit ever since the film Excalibur way back in 1981.
I cant think of a single King Arthur adaptation that so much as mentions the island of Avalon or any of King Arthurs other weapons, much less does anything with them. Every time I get a little irritated at some of the things they changed around about the legend I remind myself what other adaptations I have to compare it to. Nightmare visions of giant elephants larger than castles and Charlie Hunnam doing bullet time sword fights pops into my head, and immediately my irritation with Fate Stay Night vanishes.
Fate Stay Night invested a huge amount into the lore and even gave King Arthur a happy ending after being interred in Avalon, something no other Arthur story has ever done.
Now when Arthur returns to save Brittan in its hour of greatest need Shirou will come along and provide some welcome ranged fire support.
I will be forever grateful that this exists.

I havent seen Sir Gawain and the Green Knight yet, but I feel in my bones that its going to be terrible as well.
I think part of the problem is that Hollywood is so alergic to the idea of monarchy that they cannot bring themselves to depict a heroic king with a straight face. In Legend of the Sword Charlie Hunnam spends a LOT of time talking about how the idea of a King is bullshit, which just makes you wonder why hes trying to become the king to save everyone if he doesn't belive in it.

Without a doubt though I can believe what you say. Arturias lore is literally the backstory of fate itself. And whether it's her or the round or some weird fascimile of it(lb6) it's without a doubt the most extensive and ambitious toying with Arthurian legend of pretty much anything anywhere.
Nanatsu taizai is probably second but that's nowhere close to as extensive as fate has been(although to be fair that is just a straightforward manga where as nasuverse is tons of stuff)
Uh how about that Merlin series with Colin Morgan? No more accurate than Nasu's sure, but that series was pretty good.

I like this video's comments section a lot. Saber was my first love, which is not really meaningful or sensical since she is a fictional character but I don't know how to better express myself. Fate/Stay Night is the most impactful anime for me. I was waking up with the first thing I'd think of being Saber, and going to sleep with the last thing on my mind being Saber, for some 6 months after I finished it. It's been 16 years since then and I still haven't completed the VN. Only broached the Fate route..

Shirou a selfless person has passion to help people with nothing in return, Artoria(Saber) a king whose duty to serve the kingdom and the people of Britain never rewarded herself. Truly fate brought them together separated after destroying the Holy Grail ending the cycle of Holy Grail war. Shirou spends his life finding Artoria, Artoria earns her slumber waiting for the time a miracle would happen after her slumber. At the end both are rewarded with a beautiful reunion and happiness. Best ending after finishing Fate SN yesterday I cried at that ending then finally found this ending which this should be the true ending in Fate SN. But all in all this is beautiful.

After watching the FSN I wasnt completely satisfied how anime has ended and left with some emptiness. Knowing this story has ended well and both of the characters were greatly rewarded has calmed that. Now I can peacefully move on.

@Ibu- in the original visual novel from 2004 the ending of Fate route was how it was in the 2006 anime. Saber disappears and Shirou moves on with his life with her in his memory. This epilogue was first included in the realta nua version of the visual novel that released in 2007

Just yesterday I pulled an all nighter to complete HF good ending after I had abandoned the game for almost 3 years. After getting all the endings I was surprised , I didn't have the slightliest idea that this ending existed. I wonder why Deen never added it to the anime, this would have healed my soul a long time ago. I was wondering all this time why both Rin and Sakura got happy endings (Even Rin gets 2 happy endings lol), but Saber, who was supposed to be the main heroine, didn't. Now I want so badly an Ufotable remake with this ending.
The reason Deen stay night(2006) didn't have it was cause it was not in the original 2004 release. It was added for the realta nua ps2 edition in 2007.
But I think that also fits well. This ending works well as a send off not just to fate route but the whole vn coming full circle for shirous character as well as sabers character and the overall thematic element. Hence why you need all five endings to see it.
The full impact would be completely lost if this was put at the end of Deen stay night.
But I definately agree fate route needs a remake anime to fully show it's worth off as well as add this ending in. I want that so bad

At the time FSN was first released, was really what made us (if you also watched the same time I did hehe) hooked up to the whole Fate series.
Would really be dope for studio Deen and ufotable and Nasu to bring us the best FSN for the 20th Anniversary 💕

You need to unlock every ending of every route
Having all endings isn't enough to unlock LE. You also need to choose Saber in every available choice.
For instance, in UBW you had a choice to make food for Saber or to sneak into Rin's room. If you do the first one, you will have a Saber point. You have to have 4 or 8 Saber points (sorry, i forgot) to unlock LE.
It will be enough if you choose Saber everywhere in Fate route and UBW, then you will unlock it.

Saber is the same in all the timelines. Fate, UBW, HF, Archer's and many more. She experiences them all at the same time with her consciousness divided. She gets the memories of all of them when she returns to the Hall of Heroes. So she remembers her Saber Alter life too as well as the Shirou that was her master in Archer's timeline became the Shirou in the other timelines as well as his own too. Because he does the same experiencing them all at the same time. In the end Saber ends in Avalon with Shirou from the Fate route as it was her choice to break her contract. That Shirou never became Archer nor did he learn that Archer was him.
