George Benson had quite a few hits back in the day "This Masquerade" "Give Me The Night" "Breezin" "Turn Your Love Around" and "The Greatest Love Of All" which was made popular again when Whitney Houston redid it!
"Turn Your Love Around" is a completely underrated gem. So funky and danceable!
Another good one, his cover of the jazz standard "Moody's Mood," a duet with Patti Austin, which also features his fine guitar playing.
You nailed it! I dunno the business that well but it seems as if they're reacting to hand outs or just signature songs from artist.
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT His best? He didn't even play his guitar! But you're right because I saw a PBS and women were trying to get on stage and dance with him. They were successful.
Don’t forget “Summertime”! 🔥🔥🔥
Give me the night was ABSOLUTELY amazing, as was Masquerade. I swear you guys keep raiding my record collection! Love you guys! {{{hugs}}}
Yes indeed I simply think Give me the night is my favorite of his.
That was my favorite too
Yes! And "On Broadway" and "In your eyes". (BTW, I think they've already done Give me the night)
Jay and Amber did This Masquerade? No way, I missed that one!
@@kmach1000 Two of my faves as well! Also "Breezin" is an iconic instrumental! I remember my Dad loved George Benson, and he had all of the 8-track tapes that he'd play in the car whenever he'd come to pick us up from school. "Breezin" will forever be the one I remember the most. So nostalgic...😍🎶🎶🎵🎵🎶🎶
Wow! I never realized the Glen Medeiros version was a cover. You learn something new everyday.
I actually like that one better, maybe because it's the one I have always heard. I love George Benson, but think the other version is better.
I didn't realize it either. It's Glen's version I listened to and always remember. I don't think I was even aware George Benson sang this. I believe the versions are only a couple of years apart, so there's that. I like them both.
Same!!!
I’m more familiar with the Glen Medeiros version but I prefer this one better. In Your Eyes is another one of my favorites.
Ditto...never realized the Glen Medeiros version was a cover either. Learn something new either day.
People sleep on George Benson. He is a legend. He did the original version of The Greatest Love Of All, and it was so powerful it will make you cry.
It did just make me cry, it wasn't pretty: ua-cam.com/video/Bw26pG7u5ak/v-deo.html
Agree totally!
I've always preferred his version of "Greatest Love of All," but maybe that's because I knew it first.
Actually, Dolly Parton did the original The Greatest Love Of All. I didn't know George Benson did it too, though!
@@bonniespruin6369 I'm going to have to listen to this - I love Dolly!
I love George so much! That voice!
Glen Mederos had a hit with this song in '87 and it was my favorite for about a year. I didn't realize it was a cover until I got Benson's 20/20 ablum a couple years later. Both are great and entirely different styles.
Isn’t his vocals sweet? Soothing sound comes out of his mouth! He also plays a mellow guitar! Check it out!
Mederos' version is... not great. It's not even good. The only thing that boy had going for him is that 13-year-old girls wanted to marry him.
@@btgiv6009 Nah, your opinion is not great. It's not even good. But thanks for weighing in.
@@btgiv6009 Clearly you have no taste. racists don't
I had no idea it was a cover until now. I had to click on the reaction to see if this was the same song. My first time hearing the original.
Benson ,has my heart for sure ,❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️, one of the best ! Love and good vibes 😊
Had front row seats in 1977 at the Sunrise Musical Theater in Florida. George Benson is a great guitarist, very smooth, great voice. On Broadway and Greatest Love of All were two great songs he sang among others.
George Benson was smooth a can be. He still sounds the dame to this day.
George Benson is also a brilliant Guitarist! I was lucky enough to see him in Concert a few years ago at Sheffield Arena UK. A great Performer!
I love everything by him
On Friday and Saturday when I was a kid my dad would be blasting George Benson on the stereo. He still does! I didn't like the music, but I love it now. A very deep rabbit hole here, but you have to hear "This Masquerade", "On Broadway", "Off Broadway", "Love Ballad", "Lady Love Me one more Time", and "Down here on the Ground" among many many others.
George is one of the best jazz guitarist around
Mostly instrumentals
His playing is in the same style as the late great Wes Montgomery.
"On Broadway"!!!
Notice how he does vocal scat with his voice and jazz guitar licks with his hands in perfect unison!
George Benson is a legend considered one of the greatest jazz guitarist of our time. He has quite a few R&B and Jazz hits also. A few of his hits that I love “Breezin’” , “Love x Love” and “Turn Your Love Around”.
I have seen George Benson live four times though the years. On Broadway, Breezin showcase his phenomenal guitar mastery! Absolutely enjoy your show and reactions!🎉😮
You guys will love George's TURN YOUR LOVE AROUND
1st time for me hearing George do this, Ive only heard it sung by Glenn Mederios
Remember he's one of the greatest guitarist ever along with his singing and scat.Breezin, On Broadway live and Masquerade are musts!
Great memories from high school in '87
If you think George Benson is a great vocalist you need to hear him play guitar. This Masquerade, and On Broadway, really show off his guitar and vocal skills.
Got that right
On Broadway is my favorite song!!! George’s version and the original
I hope they listen to both of these songs! They are the essence of George Benson. 🎷 🎸 🎤
You my friend nailed it! I just commented that when you see him on stage sing and play, it's unbelievable. Even when he played "Breezin" with Carlos Santana he was better to my opinion. "Masquerade" is my favorite. It seems reaction videos play the signature songs, but many times the unpleasant ones.
Yes! Heading George play guitar solo while he scats with it nite for note will blow your mind! Masquerade and on Briadway his two best displaying this particular talent.
George is my all-time favourite. I've seen him in concert 3 times, the last time was only a few months ago, and he's still brilliant 👏
Meet him once when he was a customer in a store I was working at. An absolute gentleman and a pleasure to talk to. Super friendly, kind and 100% present. It was maybe 30-40 minutes of interaction but I won’t forget it.
George is a legend (and FYI, he will celebrate his 80th birthday in March!). "On Broadway" is a must-listen, as is "Turn Your Love Around", and "Lady Love Me (One More Time). His voice is smooth like buttah! For your next Billy Ocean song, I hope you do "Loverboy". It will SURPRISE you, and the video is a trip!!
Had to go check out "Loverboy" That Video IS a Trip👽👾🦎!!
The opening sequence of All That Jazz with On Broadway is one of the great movie intros ever.
This Masquerade!!! Next on your list 😉
Goerge started out as a Jazz guitarist. When his album Breezin came out there was only one vocal composition on it. I come from his hometown of Pittsburgh, the story is that When George was waiting to record Masquerade. he played through it in rehearsal and sang to it. They love it so much that they put it on the album. That really started his professional singing career. Then he recorded The Greatest Love of All and Broadway sealing his career. He is a fabulous guitarist!
Love your vibe, but he goes further back than you think before Leon Russell "Masquerade" in the 70's go back another 20 years. LOL
@@FlipArt57 I know that he goes back to the mid sixties and was known for scat while he played. But Breezin was his breakout album.
@@deborahscalise3215 Yes! Because his commercial hit is the relevancy here. So much so "The Midnight Special" had he and Carlos Santana DUAL it out. George was such a gentlemen he let Carlos take more of the song. In the projects 1969-74, Carlos Santana was our "Guitar Hero." But when "Breezin" was released George was my hero. The timing was right, a better version of "Bobby Womack." His version wasn't as beautiful and complex as George Bensons. George hit two birds in one stone, in the same album is "Affirmation" from Jose Feliciano. Both those songs dominated over the originals by critics. Kinda rare.
@@FlipArt57 I have seen both live and they are fabulous.
@@deborahscalise3215 Notice that George Benson was holding back giving him the red carpet? I shouldn't "bother" you anymore but, listen to Affirmation from Jose Feliciano and notice how sweet George Bensons version is. Thanks for everything Deb.
I remember such a smooth beautiful voice. George Benson. Haven’t heard him in quite a while. Thanks for this! ❤
I was thinking the same thing; can't remember the last time I heard him. Loved hearing him again :)
Jay & Amber, you'll love his "On Broadway" and "This Masquerade"!!!
On Broadway is my favorite George Benson!
When I was a teenybopper - I fell in love with Glen Medeiros's version of this. It was THE song that I loved and played the most. I didn't even realize that it was a cover. Would LOVE to hear your reaction to Glen's version as well.
Yes! Glen Medeiros' is the only version I've ever heard from the mid eighties. I was in middle school.
@@emeraldtiger7135 And I had SUCH a crush on him too. The good ole days - lol.
I used to always get this confused with the theme song from the movie Arthur, Christopher Cross' Best That You Can Do. Partially due to the fact that I was just a kid, and all smooth jazz sounded alike to me back then. But Benson has a really good voice, and even nowadays, he is still a good singer.
Turn your love around us a personal fave. On Broadway is a classic of his too!
Give Me The Night was probably my favorite song by George Benson
Loved 'Gimme the night' too!! Fabulous singer/songwriter
In 1986, 16 year old Glenn Medeiros won a radio talent contest in his home state of Hawaii, when he performed a cover version of this song. A radio executive from Phoenix heard the song and took a recording back to his station, where it spread like wildfire, and it became a national hit, then later, a worldwide hit. It reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, spent four weeks at number one in the UK, and reached #3 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart in 1988.
Love George Benson's music. 'On Broadway' and 'Give Me the Night,' were big hits for him.
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT Yes, great song. I should have included that one in the list.
This Masquerade written by Leon Russell is one of his best.
I like george’s version but for me the carpenters version is even better
Once again. All these songs that I love and had no idea who it was!
“Breezin” is a great instrumental by Benson in 1976.
Love this song so very much, as we are a musical family I recall so well all my brothers and I singing this for our Mother and Father for their Golden Wedding dance, even after 50 years at that stage their love was crystal clear as if they were 15 again and just meet.

I love how Amber has this small delighted smile as she’s tuning into the love in his voice, and the quality of his buttery tone. I feel it because I grew up as a child listening to this. I memorized it including the harmonies. It’s a favorite ballad in the Philippines too!!!
A guitar no vocals and classic jam you would love is “ Breezing” truly sounds like the guitar is doing the singing.
Nostalgic...always playing this song while i got traffic jam after work.😅
I listen to all I can everyday. You two are the best therapy a guy trying to get as much of my memory as I can.🙏Thanks!
Quick story. Mr benson warming up outside for an afternoon concert on broad street NYC right outside my work on NYSE. Sat down 10 feet from him. He ripped it on the guitar. When done practicing he looked up asked me how was that? Not bad not bad at all I said. Both laughed. Truly a great entertainer and so talented.
George Benson is so talented it ought to be illegal. Singer, composer and oh yeah world class guitarist.
This song is perfect for a Wedding Reception Play List, I'd definitely want it.
George Benson at 79 is still great live. I saw George at the Albert Hall in London last June as it was a delayed concert for two years due to Covid restrictions. He was fantastic. Also have seen George at Wembley Arena London way back in 86. One of the best I have seen live.
I'm going to keep plugging for Joni Mitchell singing "Both Sides Now". Her live 2000 version
Love this song! I had no idea Glenn Medeiros was not the original artist; that's the only recording I've ever heard. My history with this song is a bit different. When Glenn Medeiros released his version in 1987, I was living in Costa Rica. There were a couple of radio stations that played mostly music in English, and they would have local top ten countdowns in addition to broadcasting Kasey Kasem's American Top 40. Glenn's cover was a hit in Hawaii and in other countries before making it back to the US mainland. I heard the song climb the local charts and then fall back off. Then someone recorded a Spanish version. It had climbed the local charts and fallen off before I finally heard it start up the US charts.
I only remember Glenn’s version , I don’t know who recorded it first, but the dying hold back time, it took me there all over again and the lady in my life at that moment! Learn sunshine something new every day!!
Written by Gerry Goffin
Carol King’s ex husband and writing partner
George did it first
They're both fabulous!
George Benson's Love Ballad is my absolute favorite one of his ... think you would love it too!
George Benson is awesome! Do "This Masquerade" next!
I love this song. Gives me chills. ♥️♥️
A must hit to listen to from George Benson is "On Broadway" !!! It's not disco, but came out around that era. It will get you moving for sure! Please give it a listen, you'll love it.
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT Oh Yes Definitely! "On Broadway" was the first song of George's that popped into my mind. I haven't heard “Turn Your Love Around” in quite some time. It's absolutely one of his best, and a must react to song! Great suggestion!
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT Haha, You got that right!! 😁👍
I especially love his 80s stuff but Suddenly was a sweet 70s song that I absolutely loved.
You discovered the greatest R&B Jazz singer George Benson,I have all his albums...love this guy even Whitney Houston took one of his songs and made it a great head again....love you guys love your reaction energy keep it up.
Still remember his New Zealand concert 40 years ago 😊
You should try his song "On Broadway," a cool pop/jazz song with George doing some scatting.
Smooth! The perfect word to describe the chorus. Great song
"On Broadway," "This Masquerade," "Give Me The Night," "Breezin," and "Turn Your Love Around" are some great ones to add to your list.
THANK YOU for doing this song, I remember this song now and I dedicate it to my late wife Kerri Fleming. We lived this song together and our love went both ways.
George Benson is such a good vocalist, you might not even know, he is primarily known as a jazz guitarist. You should try This Masquerade. It was written and originally recorded by Leon Russell in 1972. After covers by Helen Reddy (1972) and The Carpenters (1973), George Benson released his cover in 1976. It became his first big hit. You will love the guitar/vocalization pairing as well as Jorge Dalto's piano. This Masquerade evokes such a darkened jazz lounge feeling, you can almost smell the smoke.
Hey guys…FUN FACT about George Benson his early work which was I believe mid 60s mid 70s was ALL INSTRUMENTAL. His label wanted him to sing he said he wasn’t a singer just a musician he didn’t think his voice was all that great. The first song I heard him sing was the original version of the Greatest Love of all yes he did it waaaaay before Whitney check that one out too!!! The song was a soundtrack of the movie the Greatest, an autobiography of Muhammad Ali.
The song that you just played was from his album 20/20 which came out around 83 or 84…at that time right before the album came out I worked for the Norby Walters booking agency in NYC midtown manhattan as a receptionist. George Benson himself stopped by the office to see my boss and he had the MASTER of this LP before it was released! The entire staff had the pleasure of hearing the entire album before it was pressed! He was such a nice guy very humble and sweet. One more thing about the song I met my now husband in 1984 I had the album and we would play it a lot when we would hang out.. when we started falling for each other I made a tape for him of mushy love songs and Nothings gonna change my love by Mr Benson was the main song which told him how I felt 2 kids and 37 years later that song still gets me glad you guys discovered it❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️Bless you both sorry for the long post😂
Jeannean
Love this song. Takes me back...
My fav JAZZ guitarist... His instrumentals are legendary among "smooth jazz" lovers... When he released the "Give Me the Night" he ended up adding his vocal prowess to the talents following a full crossover with his hit "Turn Your Love Around" .. I've seen him at least 6X, and he ALWAYS sings this and other vocals... Best known for his signature guitar hit "Breezin'".. idolized by many other jazz guitarists like Norman Brown.. he's the quintessential JAZZ Icon... So glad you decided to dip into jazz.. and those up and coming singers who are visiting the classics and singing them... LOVE your style/format.. best "couple" doing reactions... I believe your focus on the older music originals bridges the gap between where today's singers take a sample and convert it to a hit.. the originals have SO much to offer.. and the most beautiful phrase "My Grandma" or "My Mom & Dad" used to listen to this all the time is thanks to you BOTH... Keep on doing what you do best: appreciate great music for what it makes you feel.. no matter how old it is.. I love your love of music!!! Peace & Blessings!!!
The Glen Medeiros version was my wedding song.
Sweet and clear❤
This is a whole vibe...love this song! 🎶😍🎶
I love it how you guys get lost in the music as we all have done listening to these beautiful songs!
Oh! If you guys haven't done it yet, This Masquerade! Love you guys! He has been regarded as a singer who plays guitar exceedingly well, or a guitarist with an incredible vocal quality.
"LOVE X LOVE" a great song!!!. ; )
Oh!! I had forgotten all about this song!! I loved it so much "back in the day".
I had never heard George Benson’s recording of this song. I only heard the one that was all over radio by Glenn Medeiros.
There is a live performance of "This Masquerade" that truly shows his vocals, his mastery of the guitar & his jazz scats!!! Like nothing else!
yes, please!!
George is more than just a fantastic guitarist. but a great singer as well!
"Turn Your Love Around" by George Benson is 🔥 very nostalgic for me
Just saw him, a few months ago, he is still touring and still sounds the same and he sang all his great hits!! Surely, please do not sleep on this legend!!
So glad you guys are exploring George Benson. His pop career really understates what an out-of-this world guitarist he was. Honestly considered among the greatest Jazz guitarists of the late 20th Century. I suggest listening to his song Masquerade, which has some very cool guitar solos. Also his cover of the old Drifters hit, "On Broadway"
Love George Benson! Some other great songs by him, Turn Your Love Around, Shiver, Give Me The Night, Never Give Up On A Good Thing, Love x Love, Feel Like Making Love.
Other great songs from this time, Love Has Come Around by Donald Byrd, If You Were Here Tonight and Sunshine both by Alexander O’Neal, Dreams by Smoke City, If Only You Knew and Love Need & Want You both by Patti Labelle, too many to list but you’ll love them!
Other artists you should experience are Lillo Thomas, Mel’isa Morgan, Melba Moore, Teena Marie and Patrice Rushen.
Great reaction! ❤️❤️
*TURN YOUR LOVE AROUND* - George Benson CLASSIC, _also:_ *'Lady Love Me'* , *'On Broadway'* , *'Love X Love'*
Don't miss out on Masquerade. You guys will absolutely love it.
Beautiful love song.
Guys you did George Benson before, Just give me the night.
Must do, On Broadway and Masquerade
One of my all-time favorites
I love this song. But even though George Benson first recorded this, the version I remember growing up was done by Glenn Medeiros. It is also very good.
Both George Benson and Gino Vinelli were grossly under appreciated. I adore them both
This man had such a smooth vibe. So crisp and clear. Definitely got it listen to more of him. I hope when you get the opportunity to start listening to some more music based films on the other channel. I definitely recommend the movie The five heartbeats or the commitments.
So beautiful! The older music can never be compared with music today.
Amber and J please play Masquerade, I think it's George Benson's BEST song I believe he won a Grammy for it. Also listen to his version of ON BROADWAY, it a classic by Mr. BENSON. his guitar and scattin is amazing love you guys!!!
This Masquerade!! George was a successful jazz guitarist for years who was unknown to mainstream pop music. Then along came This Masquerade, and he took off like a rocket. He harmonizes with his guitar throughout the song - it’s amazing! Please check this song out!
You definitely need to check out This Masquerade by George Benson!
Great reaction guys! The 80's ballads were flawless and were very standard back then. Please check out Al Jarreau "After all", "mornin'" and "We're in this love together". Love y'all!
One of the most dedicated songs of the 80s. Glenn Medeiros did a wonderful job with it as well❣️
"There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make you Cry)," "Loverboy," and "Love Really Hurts Without You" (I could go on) are some really good songs from Billy Ocean.
You all should listen to In your eyes and you are the love of my life by george benson it'll make you feel live all over again
Being here with you Jay and Amber puts a smile on my face🙂
I believe this version of the song is more famous in eastern countries while the Glenn Medeiros version is more popular in the western world. So when cultures collide, there tends to be some confusion about which one is the original (this).
Turn your love around, is a great song 🎵
I had no idea the 1987 version was a cover! That's the only version I've ever heard. Wow
I've never heard this before -- what a great song! It kinda reminded me of Arthur's Theme -- you know the part "When you get caught between the moon and New York City".
George Benson is an artist I always wanted to see live, unfortunately I haven't managed to
You've GOT to do "On Broadway," "This Masquerade," and his version of "The Greatest Love of All." He's still out there performing. One of the sexiest voices in existence.
