Always great to see respect for these animals. No forced interaction, no getting in on their space, just watching them behave naturally. I have always been fascinated with deer from a young age. Something about them just feels so mysterious yet beautiful. if I am to ever see one I just hold my breath out of fear of scaring it and watch them do their thing.

I live on the first floor of an apartment that overlooks a small meadow. This past summer and fall a deer and her two fawns would go back there to play and fall asleep regularly. One day I noticed that one of the fawns was missing. When I walked to the store a couple days later I saw the dead fawn in the gutter of a 4 lane road as I walked by. I was grief stricken.

So sorry for your loss, little synchronicities like this make for a new perspective on the moment for sure.
The moments I share walking & sitting w/my wild deer buddies & their "neighbors", picking blackberries as they feed on the foliage ahead of me, seeing the same sibling shenanigans as seen captured on this vid..Momma Zoe & her twins bedding down & taking turns sleeping in front of me, being so relaxed sometimes that I fall asleep..waking up to a sniff-nuzzle.. never can replace the presence of the person lost, & desire to share that moment, but the experience of the moment w/reverence to them is a beautiful moment of peace.
I'd like to think even just experiencing them through UA-cam has a similar peaceful calming effect..sometimes we just need to "recalibrate" our insides to the peace that surrounds us..& hold on to that with the memories..❤

I can only imagine how fast that little one would fly in an open field and no trees. So precious to see the one sleep. I often think how sad it is for animals like this, and even feral cats, that have to constantly be on guard to the danger lurking that could kill them. What a horrible feeling that would be. I have a young (yearling) Whitetail Buck that has taken-up residence in the woods next to my back yard. He was expelled from his herd and has not taken-up with a bachelor group, so I have become his substitute. He began coming to the yard since I put out feed for the small critters an he has begun foraging it. He is getting quite tame and I have approached within a few feet of him. I don't want him to get too used to human contact as this can be a fatal flaw in his behavior, but it is interesting, none the less.

The local herd tends to have twins, so it's no surprise that he was kicked-out, literally. He has several kick marks where some deer much bigger than him had a go at him. No serious injuries, though, just some hair missing. I just put out food for the critters and he was waiting for me when I got there.

Those are not fawns. They are 1 year 4 month olds probably. A fawn is an under 7 month old deer. Born in mid July Fawns rarely travel with their mothers during the day until about March. Fawns are hidden in the thick brush to hide from felines, canines, and large birds. The mother ingests the fawns waste to cover its scent. I’ve been hunting for years and have only seen half a dozen spotted fawns.

Nice. 3000+ miles due west of you, on the north slopes of the Olympic mountain range, they come up to our front porch and trigger the security cameras. As many as 6 at a time browse from one end of our property to the other. Nothing we plant is "deer resistant" and the bucks will batter down the cattle panel fences and cages we put up around the garden and fruit trees. The most surprising thing they eat? The "emerald green" arborvitae hedge (cedar-like). When they finish with them it looks like they went through a lathe or pencil sharpener. ;^)

Beautiful feeling, they were not scared and I did not disturb them.
Few years later I realized that there was a family that lived in the woods behind the college, for generations prior and many more generations to come.
Me and my friend we builder a trail there following deep paths, believe it or not ever once in a while when I go there to that trail, you can still find family deers pack in that area

That’s kind of strange to be honest. Typically a buck will mate a doe and then move on to the next doe it could find. I guess it could be possible that the buck was trying to mate the doe that had fawns already or maybe it already mated and stayed for a couple days. I guess you could even be right about them being a family. Either way that’s pretty cool.

We have a apple tree I can see from my kitchen window and I have been watching the same family groups around that tree for the last 7 years. They bed down just out in the wood line and never seem to leave the area. Especially now that I have planted them more variety food options like different grasses, Muscatines, blueberries and a persimmon tree. They are so use to me that sometimes I can get within 10 feet of them before they move away. Use to be they bolted and now they just casually walk away. Like they know I'm not a threat but they also are unfortunately not interested getting pets from me 🤷🏻‍♀️😄

Get something to shake food. They will get used to the sound. If you put the container down with the food in so they can eat at their own leisure at first then just keep the container in your hands and they will come and eat it out of your hands. Then you sneak a pet.

I also use some Strike Force cameras... the Strike Force Apex (6), HD Pro X (2) and 4 of the new Strike Force Pro XD Dual Lens cameras. @@mainetrailcam7398 I love Sub Micro cameras from Browning (Strike Force and Dark Ops). Yes, battery life on only six AA’s is incredible. During the long cold winter months when I’m forced to use lithium AA’s, they save me a considerable amount of money when I have 20 + Cameras in the field. I still use some Recon & Spec Ops cameras, but not as much as I do in the warm months when using Leak-proof Alkaline AAs.
I was explaining to a friend recently, I put out and Dark Ops Apex in late October with a fresh set of Energizer Lithium AA’s, and brought the camera in, in mid-April getting roughly 350 (give or take a few) 20 second videos per month and the batteries still test at 40%. The image/video quality isn’t quite Recon/Spec Ops quality, but still excellent, and these cameras are so very reliable.
Another thing I love about the Browning cameras, is there a sound quality. This is very important for my work, enabling me to identify birds and wildlife species through calls or sounds. Especially with the Recon and Spec Ops cameras.
All my best wishes to you and yours, and thanks…

I watched the baby deers frolicking behind my house this summer! Oh to be young again! I also "play" with the adult deers. When they stamp their front foot I stamp my leg back at them and they take off white tails up! lol. Now mind you I only did this twice ALL summer long I usually leave them alone!

@@mainetrailcam7398 Beautiful, thank you! :) I rented a basement once and one spring, a young deer woke me up a few mornings. I think it happened three or four times, it was just looking at me through the window and we were only half a meter apart. Then one morning as I was going to work, I met it down the road and we just stopped and looked at each other for a few minutes, perhaps fifty meters apart. Then I took a step and it was off and I never saw it again. But it was a very beautiful experience. This is sort of the opposite. Thank you for that. :)

Drinking my milk, and started sputtering and coughing when the fawn started gamboling and leaping about. Could he have eaten something that was fermented? Amazing how the doe and fawn at the end, seemed to feel safe in that spot. But I noted that the doe slept restlessly, slightly opening her eyes at times to check the area, cocking an ear for the sound of danger. Guess they never totally relax, do they?

Yup. Deer never really go into a deep sleep they are always on alert. I certainly couldn’t get through the day waking up that much.

@@mainetrailcam7398 I specifically videoed my deer sleeping, rapid eye & ear movements when they go past "still" after ruminating, the relaxed "dozey" stage.. "irrelevant rapid twitching" like REM in people!🤣
Always bouncing off environment & each other, ready to go..what a fantastic video.. I need to organize videos, pics, etc into an "entertainment & educational" website/UA-cam channel😉👍Amazing creatures!

@@lisatoronto7265 I was amazed when I realized that they do "konk-out" ,..fast asleep, fast awake..lol they rest deeply as they ruminate throughout the day, but when they feel safe as they watch over each other, they take turns being "head-shepherd" haha..
It's a treat to see deer happy & content, which they are through most of the day & night..till something sketchy is smelled, heard, or seen.. amazing how discerning & knowledgable hey are of their territory🥰👍

I'm old and have a friend that hunts. Half my age. Gives me deer meat. Greatly appreciated. I learned real fast how process and cut what he gave me. I have a meat grinder, dehydrater, meat slicer. Now learning how to dry age meat. I am actually proud of myself for learning so much so fast about wild game. City girl, 64 years old, past 7 years getting a bag of deer meat that barely fits inside the refrigerator. Steaks, stews, jerky, burgers, slimjims, ground deer for spaghetti. 🙂🤪
