    ========
    CASE DETAILS
April 01, 2022, AWP began our search for 26-year-old Dedrick Smith who was last seen in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on October 3, 2006, and by late afternoon, the Adventures With Purpose team located Dedrick's car in just 14' of water.
The next morning, April 2nd, AWP working alongside local law enforcement, Dedrick's car containing human remains, was recovered.
Dedrick was last seen at his girlfriend's home when she went out in the middle of the night to get food, and when she returned he was gone.
He changed his shirt and left his girlfriend's house on Booker Street, driving his bright blue/turquoise 1993 Pontiac Grand Am with the North Carolina license plate number NYB3645.
There were reported sightings of him in the local area after his disappearance, but none of these were confirmed.
Smith maintained daily contact with his loved ones prior to his disappearance, and he had promised his mother he'd visit her house on October 4, but none of his family and friends have heard from him since he went missing.
Dedrick suffered from Paranoid schizophrenia, which is characterized by predominantly positive symptoms of schizophrenia, including delusions and hallucinations. These debilitating symptoms blur the line between what is real and what isn't, making it difficult for the person to lead a typical life.
We believe that Dedrick's schizophrenia is what led him to accidentally drive his car into Winston Lake 16-years earlier.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dedrick's family during this difficult time.
Hug the ones you love for you never know when it might be the last time you see them.

The fact that they find these victims almost always within a 5 mile radius makes me question how hard the police looked. If they do not have the resources or the skill set then the government needs to provide funding rather than sending millions of dollars to god knows what. The fact that these men find them within a day is just mind baffling. These families deserve a real investigation and closure.

Lack of funding, but also the problem that it requires spezialised training to do what these guys do. Training and regular recertification. Most rural PDs probably don't see the need for the few cases they get. And/or have trouble finding the people willing to do it, as you would need at least two or three (diver and spotter).

I only just discovered this channel yesterday. But as I watched more I began to realize that I very nearly became one of these lost people. I used to live in Pensacola, FL, and I used to drive over the route 90 bridge every day to get to work. At that time I was suffering from severe depression, living in an abusive house I developed suicidal thoughts. Every day when I drove to work, I thought "Would anyone find me if I just drove off the bridge into the river at 4 in the morning?" If you know anything about Pensacola, you know there's hundreds of boat ramps everywhere. Almost every night, late at night, I left the house just to go sit at a boat ramp, contemplating if I should just put the car in drive into the water and sink. I dealt with this for almost 2 years before I finally left to a different state. Now that I am discovering this channel, it makes me think: If I had done it, would I have ever been found? Would I have been another lost person? Luckily I will never know because I am in a much better mind state than I was over a year ago, and I have healed and sought help.
If you ever find yourself in the same position I was in, don't do it. You are loved and people will want to find you alive and safe.

...I am so sorry for your loss and I can't imagine how horrible it must feel but I DO know someone who can quiet your fear and worry. His name is Jesus and He said a few things I'd to share with you, because the truth will be revealed 100% and there will be justice:
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matt 11:28-30)
"Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops......And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father but the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows." (Matt 10:26-31)
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.... (Revelation 21:3-7)

I think in the last year authorities have come to trust and appreciate these groups… and take advantage of their expert skills at this. I think early on the authorities just saw them as guys just wanting UA-cam hits and notoriety, saw them as interfering and disrespecting the families but now actually understand what their purpose is and actually can’t prevent them from searching because it would just make them look so incredibly bad in the community’s eyes….

Last month I had to make a 60 mile round trip due to an emergency, but it was very dangerous and I slept for several days after. I absolutely despise being dependent on others (mostly my saint of a husband) for everything. It is miserable to not have my independence, but in this situation I had no choice.
