Bette Davis had such a respect for acting. And it showed in the quality of actress she was. It's not surprising that Bette Davis admired Anna Magnani so much, the great Italian actress. Two greats.
Never. Never. Never, did I ever imagine I would see Johnny Carson or Bette Davis again. What have I done right to enjoy the privilege of this option? Bette Davis had such a respect for acting. And it showed in the quality of actress she was. It's not surprising that Bette Davis admired Anna Magnani so much, the great Italian actress. Two greats.
Great comment Brenda.
Never. Never. Never, did I ever imagine I would see Johnny Carson or Bette Davis again. What have I done right to enjoy the privilege of this option? I've always enjoyed Carson's wit and the Tonight Show. I missed many, many episodes. This is one of them with the legendary Bette Davis. A very, fine actress. She is original and a very convincing, credible performer. I've loved her in every acting role that I've been fortunate enough to view.
The greatest talk show host interviewing one of the greatest actresses of all time. Actually remember being very young but I would sit up at night and watch The Tonight show with my grandfather and I remember this interview distinctively. Such class such a great mannerisms. Such respect. I'm glad that I got to see this. Compared to the absolute garbage we have on late night now this stands Head and shoulders above it all.
I love her attitude, her presence, and the way she had had always carried herself. I admire her fashion sense and values so much.
I knew Bette Davis. Was with her at Johnnie Ray's birthday party in the 80's. Both of us had the gift of gab. Wonderful lady.
That's pretty cool, Barry!
Please tell us more! What did she "gab" about. Why do you say she was wonderful. Was she happy? Anything more you can tell us would be great.
She was a fine lady! I dont understand why she always wanted to have Hephburns face, she was cute the way she was.
@Barry Foxworth:. Wow, you must have been a 'kid' then!!! 🙄
@@iwantafennec9577 probably, i mean not all of her roles was supposed to be attractive even though she herself actually was without a doubt, but its good to be able to addapt as an acter/actress.
Could listen to her for hours shes so well spoken and interesting, and i never knew she had a sense of humor. Wonderful lady and performer. ❣
My grandmother told me when she was working in NYC , she worked for her and that she was a very gracious lady!
Bette Davis is in a class by herself. And I always thought she was beautiful. She had a unique beauty. Wonderful actress. I am very sad how it ended with her daughter.
You can tell the world had changed and that she had lived 1,000 lives before that moment. So nice to see her treated with such respect.
I remember hearing my Dad laughing down the hall when I should have been asleep. He would be watching Jonny Carson. To see Betty Davis on his show was a treat since she was my favorite actress when I was growing up. Rest in peace Mrs. Davis , you will always be remembered as one of the best actress of all time on the golden screen!
I will always love Betty Davis and Joan Crawford in “ What Ever Happened to Baby Jane” they hated each other but respected each other enough to complete the movie and it was a HIT . There will never be another Betty Davis ! Johnny Carson was able to get any and everybody on his show !
I had the amazing opportunity to meet Miss Davis in the 80s. It remains a milestone in my life to just say hello to such an artiste!
I got to see her one woman show in San Diego. Absolutely amazing. They showed clips of her movies, & I think I have seen all of them. I loved Jezebel. Now, Voyager, the one where she is dying with Geraldine Fitzgerald….She detested acting in Beyond the Forest.
This is the ultimate interview. I remember seeing it back then including the fantastic chemistry with Richard Pryor including two hilarious moments. I have had this on my dvr when it aired on Antenna TV, and finally it’s here and shareable! Carson is excellent gently steering the conversation yet allowing Miss Davis to do her thing.
Dang! Talk shows had so much more class back then!
My late Mom ❤ brought Bette to my attention when I was about 12. I think that's how my appreciation of classic movies started. Bette, the pride of Lowell, MA.
I could listen to her for hours. Her voice is unique, and when she talks I’m reminded of every Bette Davis film I’ve seen, and it’s a large number. It’s really delightful to hear her speaking for herself instead of from a script.
“Now, Voyager”.............one of her best movies!
i will check it out.. thanks
Trevor Miles : 🙂 You wont be disappointed! One of her best roles.
Massabielle , it's one of my favorites!
Meg Nakamura : Yes.....I think she was just brilliant in this role. If you read the background on the movie, Miss Davis had quite a bit of influence in the production of the movie; she really was born to be an actress.
I think it’s my favorite as well 💕
The best interview I’ve seen of Miss Davis!
You cannot mistake that voice, those piercing eyes, and so many mannerisms. And yet somehow she can become someone else, and within a half hour.... while you never fully forget its Bette, you completely embrace the character and are swept away whereever she takes you.
She’s got Bette Davis eyes
This woman Mrs. Betty Davis will always be my favorite actress of all times.
Really? Her name is all over this page and you couldn't spell it correctly?
I just love this well spoken lady and such a beautiful performer as an actress... oh how I love her style in clothes, so chic , and she wears it so well 👏🏼👌❤️
I just love her, I wish there were still people like her, Audrey, and Lucille Ball 💙 wish I could time travel. I have nostalgia for a time I never knew
My favorite actress of all time. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
Grand Lady, beyond talented actress and a monumental figure in the history of cinematography. There is and never will be a match for her. I adore her forever!
I love all of her work there has not been anything that I have watched I would not want to own and watch over and over what a Talented and Beautiful Woman.
Imagine meeting Bette Davis in Tower Records! She’s so charming and a truly great actor. :)
The greatest of all actors of her time.. There will never be another..
These interviews are precious!!
THAT is a STAR.
Adding another comment. Her voice is still that same unique and unbelievable voice that everyone fell in love with. One of a kind, and it's still there. Love her.
Such a classy, down to earth, real woman. She was. Simply amazing!
Miss Betty Davis what is the absolute greatest actress of all time ❤
Smokin on public television, 11 channels, and broadcasting went off the air at midnight. I miss those times.
Me too!!
Not me. I hated when tv went off the air early.
Do you remember that boring Indian movie they would put on after the National Anthem?!
@@vince1638 No, I don't remember that...🤔
@@lucy0537 I was trying to be funny, it was a test pattern they put on after hours that had a drawing of an Indian man. Seriously!
2022 here...these interviews are absolute classics. Real class individuals, Johnny, Betty, Ed, and Doc.
She was one my favorite actress on the Silver screen.
Oh my God…The Legendary Betty Davis!!!! I adore her!!!🙏💖
I love that she never hid the fact that she loved the spotlight
It's a privilege and honor to watch this live interview from decades ago... up loaded here on UA-cam. I've always been in awe of Bette Davis movies growing up.
Pure class...a legend...doesnt get better than this....may she rip.
I imagine she was a very formidable woman.
I did some work at her home from time to time and she always was appreciative and really cool.
Dive Bar Casanova no u didnt...
I believe it was Olivia DeHaviland who called her: a benevolent volcano. That really sums her up.
And she loved her fans and gave them full credit
Bette Davis will forever be my all time favorite actress, and for so many reason. She did it the hard way, and acted her ass off. If there was a Bette Davis marathon on, I would leave the front of my television until they have played the last movie. she remains a truly great film icon.
Me too, my very favorite actress. So intense.
Remember seeing her a lot back in the 80s. Always enjoyed her interviews. All these years later, I've re-rediscovered her movies on TCM. The love grows stronger each time I watch her movies.
always a star. she dressed impeccably always. loved her
Miss Davis is gracious, smart, witty, thoughtful, intelligent, lovely and in the moment.
Bette Davis was so talented the audience loved her immensely. Hepburn could go fly a kite. Those Bette Davis eyes so lovely all the way to the end. RIP dear lady.
I agree with you. I was never a fan of Kate or Audrey Hepbrun since they seemed artificial. Bette was the REAL DEAL!
@@wmpetroff2307Agreed! ❤
@@MontagZoso Thanks for the agreement. At a dinner I was asked about my 'fav'' stars. I like seeing the person a c t i n g to capture my attention. Cary Grant, McQueen, Burt Lancaster, Faye Dunaway, Jane Fonda, Ava Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Cagney, Forrest Whitaker, Cruise and Bette Davis are believable versatile ACTORS imho.
This is FANTASTIC quality footage for an interview in 1983 wow!
Amo a Bette Davis , y su ropa en esta entrevista me encanto .
At age 56, born in early 60s I still just LOVE #BetteDavis one of my all time favorite female actresses of all time. What a classic! ❤🌹
Truly one of the greatest actresses ever.
Such great time watching , listening to her
What a lady. I love seeing her on this show.
What a classy dame and a brilliant actress, one of our greatest.
Celebrities today can’t even compare to Bette and Johnny.
I miss them both.
I always liked Betty Davis and Johnny Carson .May God rest Miss Davis and Johnny Carson souls in heaven amen. 🙏
A GRAND dame. One of our best. The best of America.
It's amazing that Betty Davis was a workhorse actress that didn't care about fame or money and got rich and famous anyway. She was a great life lesson in just put your head and do the work the very best you can.
Johnny just oozes class!
Love Bette Davis and Johnny Carson!!
