origin, their unique traditions, language and clothes have been the favorite
subject of many national and international documentaries.
For the first time this keychain films production aims to explore them as human
beings. What are their problems? The status of health, education, infrastructure
etc. Keychain films has filmed their lives and heard their voices, while Kalash
Indigenous Survival Program faces a great challenging question. Can their lives
be improved without hurting their fragile culture and tradition? The film had
selected at the Kara International Film Festival.

Just fascinating watching all Kalash videos in Chitral, Pakistan. I pray that Kalash culture continue freely without any influence or force to change. At age 70 I am learning of this culture and I wish to travel there to pay visit to the festivals and I hope that I can do that to take these wonderful memories with me to my grave. Kalash people are god's people like all other people and must have freedom to practice their beliefs and practices and be appreciated instead of conversion to destroy this ancient culture. I also hope that Kalash people take charge of travels and tourism in their own hands to earn their own money rather than others benefiting the most of the profits. And government to provide more funds directly to kalashis, and assistance to better roads, maintenance, promotion of travel and encouraging locals to run hotel and service businesses and training.

I am from Chitral, my village is close to Kalash valley...
No matter how is the condition in the region, Chitral is one of most peaceful place in the world. And Chitrali people are peaceful and loving people. Kalash culture preserved for centuries and will be in future.
As far as Kalash people's backwardness is concerned... The first responsibility is on them, they don't expose their self to the modern world, EDUCATION and exploration. God helps those who help themselves. They have limited theirself to just their valley. They are between Chitral's 2 developed (Whatever the development level is) towns (Chitral Town and Drosh Town). They don't come for education to these towns. People from other valleys come to these towns for education from distance 10 times more than Kalash valley. This is major reason. I have researched and analyzed the reasons of their of their backwardness. Government is next, who didn't pay attention to this area.
You know, in our area usually government don't go to people (almost), people go to government for their rights. If people don't go to government then they are left behind. It is how things work here because it is third world country (elite and corrupt politicians)...
Valleys/Ethnic_groups who don't struggle for their education and development are
1-Kalash,
2-Gojar (more worst condition than kalash),
3-Pathans of arandu valley,
4- People of domail valley, shishikoh valley and ursoon valley a lot more valleys (similar condition as kalash valley).
So it is not just Kalash who left behind in development there are many other valleys/ethnic_groups, both muslim and non-muslim. Chitral District is a mountainous area, there are 3 major towns and tens and tens of valleys... If people from any valley don't struggle for their education and development they are left behind.
There are some very interesting facts. People from some remote valleys have struggled so much that they have produced more doctors, engineers, management professionals and politicians than the people in developed towns. And Ultimately these professionals contribute to their respective areas in many ways, as well as to entire district and country.

The school should be in their languages and in their cultural tongu becuase they are too few and will disappear. Teaching them Urdu is a bad idea, these peopel are too few let them just speak their own language for survival sake.

Untold part of the story is: I am from Serbia, a country on South East Europe. I heard a lot of familiar words listening to Kalash people on YT, they have a old customs as a Serbian people, they religion is so similar to old prechristian serbian. And, at the end, they women have a costumes similar to Serbian, from part of todays Bosnia and Herzegovina called Old Herzegovina. The fact is, we, Balkan people are so mixed through the centuries... Alexandar the Great was a conqueror with a country near to Serbia today. So, I think it is truth that Kalash people are descents of Alexandar the Great army, they have balcan origin - Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia.....
Well, I did not say that customs are ours, I said we have common customs and some words... I heard an olm man sayin (Kalash old man) "nemamo mi ništa!!" which in english mean "we have nothing here" and whole sentence is serbian (or south-slavic if you like more).... i feel that religion is nothing more than a cultural belief. As In India, Hindu is the local religion and if some one is Muslim, he has to leave all his local culture and beliefs and local festivals.
