    Before anyone decides to load up the parts cannon after watching this please keep in mind that there are MANY reasons a car engine would be down on power.
    Some of you may have this very problem.
    However, its like saying "I'm not feeling very well so I took some allergy medication and so should you."
    Diagnosis is a skill and VERY helpful.

    I had a heater hose crossover leak. It has an H connection right over the intake manifold. Had over heating issues and a CEL. Heater hose crossover had shorted out my coil pack causing a misfire making the engine run on five cylinders. I was getting bad gas mileage and overheating. What fun! Discovered the leak which fun because did not happen till the vehicle was warm and the pressure built up. Once the leak was discovered and each plug wire was removed one at a time checking for lightning, Replaced the coil and the H-connection running like champ. 169,000 on the Vulcan 3.0. Have had all three engines the employed, 2.3, 3.0 and 4.0. Great trucks and if you change the oil regularly they are bullet proof.

    Yeah I've been dealing with that kind of a thing on my Mazda B3000 which is virtually the same as your Ranger. I bought it with a rod knock and since it was such a clean truck I got a used engine and put it in. I had a misfire which I tracked down to the coil pack and replaced it along with new wires and plugs. I still had a rough idle but I put it on ignore for the time being until I had time to deal with it. One day I was driving home with a bed load of wood from a tree I had cut down. As I was driving home there was a sudden and serious drop in power so I figured I'd better not put it on ignore anymore. I did a power balanced test and a relative compression test with my scan tool and came up with a 50% drop in performance out of the right bank. Then I did a good old mechanical compression test with my compression gauge and found 90 lbs on the #2 cylinder. That told me I was going to have to do a teardown and that's where I found those nasty exhaust valve seats. I still wasn't convinced that was all of the problem so I went ahead and put a set of brand new heads on it. After that it had a very smooth idol but still was lacking in performance. I pulled the front pipe off with the three cats and suddenly I had all the power I could use. Since that pipe is no longer available from Ford or Mazda and since I live in California you can't get them from the wrecking yard so I'm crossing my fingers with an order in to Magnaflow, to the tune of $1,800, that they will build me one within the next few months.

I bought a new 2023 ford ranger with the four-cylinder engine, but I still prefer my 2007 3.0L V six.     • @insanitology
      @insanitology Рік тому

      @@livens100 to further your point... most at-home maintenance is centered around those 3 things. Even if nothings wrong with your vehicle, everyone should be in the habit of keeping those parts of their motor clean and functioning. Most of the time, those are the easiest parts to work on and anybody can learn how. Although, not so much with these newer vehicles.

      You can test a coilpack with a cheap $5 multimeter. a cylinder misfiring is usually (starting with the most common) a bad spark plug, a bad plug wire, or a bad coil/coilpack. First thing to do is pull your spark plug and see what she looks like.
