He is a fantastic pianist AND he is an actor. Why not? He enjoys making music and he shows this. So it seems that he is free like a jazz pianist. I like listening to him and I like watching him. Good for my ears, my soul AND my eyes!

Can't you see that he's enjoying himself? Can't you feel the spirit in his playing? True musicianship doesn't just mean technique and notes. He can make whatever gestures and faces he likes so long as he brings that enjoyment into the music. If that's what it takes for beautiful music then so be it.

This man is so fun to watch! He is so full of joy! How can anyone hate that? You know it used to be that all the great players were respected and their differences were celebrated. Why must there only be one?

I think he just enjoy playing, and enjoy the music.
    He is not acting.

Lang Lang is thoroughly enjoying the music as he plays it! I wish I had that talent to play piano with such skill.

I changed my mind entirely about Lang Lang. I Hated in the past, but the guy can play. The single problem is music market who makes everything commercial. - But he is kind of a genius.

what a player music is all about emotions been eccentric the gap between mad and genius is so narrow this guy is probably one of the best pianists in the world today those deriding the blokes talent need to get a life!

it's amazing and unbelievable seeing how his hands jumping between the keyboards. see how high his hands jump? and they can aleays hit the right keys......man.

  • @ltglahn
    @ltglahn 13 років тому

The guy is amazing. He does give ammunition to his critics by his goofing around at times, his seeming to not care -- tossing this off like he's playing in a barroom instead of listening.
But the guy is being filmed, it's a big stupid distraction, so why not mug and throw your arms around like Liberace.
The people who only watch the video will dig it, and people who don't like you aren't likely to come around.
This is fun to watch, but it's not something to judge his playing by.

And the worst thing is that most of you here who comment for nothing are not even HALF as good and as talented as him. He is great, and he really feels and enjoys music. And if you cannot do it,just shut up!

@zabuzato exactly, and if you are hearing what he is playing, rather then taking note of what he is doing, why would you bring up a point like that? I can not think of any world known pianists that would show disrespect to other pianists because of their movements.

You don't need to look like having a seizure when playing to be good. My teacher is known around the world and he said he cannot stand that people play like that. When people plays piano, you don't look how they move, you ear what they play!

He used to be in the same "League" he's 76 now.
Maybe you think it's easy to become "competetitive" but it's almost impossible to "pierce" in classical music. Lang Lang is good, I never said the opposite.
What I'm saying is that he doesn't need to make ridiculous and unneeded movements during his play. That's all...

@lagunagreg It's just his style I guess...personally, I used to have no problem with it, but recently I just kind of started getting annoyed. I mean, a little movement is OK, as it shows you are into the music, but lately, Lang Lang seems to be overdoing it. He did not used to be like that... -__-
But I like Lang Lang, he's a very nice person and his music is beautiful when you close your eyes, so I'm going to stick with buying his CDs for beautiful music.

He can play his can off. lol I bet he's trained himself to jump around so much at the piano that I bet he couldn't play without making all those crazy motions. He's fun to watch though. I don't know how he does it. Maybe I should start doing that; perhaps it'll improve my playing.

Music has nothing to do with showmanship. Agreed, if you care about showmanship, you probably don't want to watch a statue play Prokofiev. But if it's the music you care about, it doesn't matter whether it's a statue playing or Lang Lang, because you want to LISTEN to it and not WATCH it.

He spends so much energy jumping around that he forgets to put the energy into playing the notes so there are many passages with nowhere near enough weight.

@tptplayer1954 Ahahahah, this "hell of a cake teacher" is known around the world, but from his age, he don't play in Europe anymore, Silly Ass.
Lang Lang is known, but there's many other pianist who play better than him, even if it is a personal taste. I'm not dissing him, I'm saying that such movements are not required to play, and thus make non sense since the main purpose of a piece is to play a nice song.... Not like if it was throw away .

Okay. he plays on really crappy pianos for digital recorders. He needs a dam bosendorfer for digital. Other than that, he can play steinway in concerts/lives but, other than that; his speed and delicate fingers can't... I think ukdavepianoman stated it best "no where near enough weight"

@Chopofiev Are you kidding! Please STAY AWAY FROM CHOPIN Lang Lang! His performances of Chopin are probably among the worst intepretations he does - he simply cannot play Chopin. He does not have the Chopin Touch, the refined rubato, the beauty of tone and sound, the long phrases, the intellectual depth and the natural sense for his harmony! He plays Prokofiev alot better, albeit not very well.
