I finally got to see Steve's 44 in person hanging out at sun n fun with Billy and Just Aircraft truly a phenomenal airplane, can't wait til I get my own of course not as nice as Steve's but I can dream, The stol competition just made me want one more than ever.
Very nice! Thanks Sara!
Looks like a nice new "ride"! That 3-cylinder does sound more "relaxed" than the 4...
I love when Steve puts a new video out! Love the plane.
Steve once got into a fight with a black bear over a pair of struts. They're still drinking buddies to this day.
An amazing airplane! Can't wait to see it in action in Arizona 😎
It looks like we’re not gonna make it to Arizona, so our next competition event will be Wayne America.
You do get around Steve.
I love it, your plane sounds like my Yamaha FX Nytro Snowmobile......Braaap
Hello from Minnesota! Great video!
Whoah thanks for the walk around Steve! Love the new Machine!
*I keep saying, ONE DAY! A nice Highlander with an Apex!* 🙌🙌
Enjoyed this one too 😁 nice to hear about the changes and the mods !!!
And Holy cow does it perform 😎 I'm from Iowa and hoping to attend the Nebraska competition in May !!! Thank you for the video you two 😉
Really enjoy the videos! Nice job Sara and Steve. 👍🏽👍🏽
Like those knobby tires. I remember they made my Sting-Ray bike stop shorter too! ;-)
Hi Steve and Sarah,
That aircraft looks really light compared to the others. It really comes of the ground fast.
Good luck at the events.
Take care,
Be safe.
They should have had Steve perform the Dubai helipad stunt. Landing? Heck, he could have done 3 T & Gs in that distance!!!
I think I know why your aircraft went from “Yee Haw 6” to “Yee Haw 8” skipping “Yee Haw 7” ………”Yee Haw 8” ate “Yee Haw 7” 🤣🤣 Really though, beautiful job Steve and Sara!!!
With the knobbies, the XL looks more like a Storch every day!
Wow.
I bet with enough headwind he could take off backwards.
👏👏👏
I’d be interested in a more in depth video on oratex. Did you film any of the covering process in your build?
No, we didn’t, I figured there was plenty of covering videos out there already with people that were probably better at it than me.
The XL fuselage does look quite a bit bigger.
Good job ,✨🌟☀️👍
Can you do a video with more engine information?
Thats secret stuff
We might.
Alrighty Steve!!! Yee Haa! Where's that Mountain Top?
It’s in eastern Oregon.
What I was trying too speak about was, there's probably no Mountain Top that's Not possible for you too Land On! Bring on the Mountain Tops , you Can Do It!!! Yee Haa, I still remember that Day a long Time ago Dead Stick Takeoff and Landing!!! Yee Haa to you and Yee Haw and Family + Crew!!!
hi steve, when are you going to mention your drooping ailerons.?😀
👍
I like the new paddle prop, watching your landings and I would suggest some dampening on the landing gear so you don't bounce and are able to use the brakes sooner and more effectively. Just an opinion
I land with the brakes on hard, but I agree we need to do a little adjusting on the suspension to get rid of the bounce.
@@SteveHenry that new prop and reduction gearing really kicks out the thrust. I like the way the outer third of the blade is shaped. What diameter is it? It's huge, probably great until 60mph... Lol. But for what the job at hand is I don't think you could come up with a better combo, now ditch those bungee's for some shocks like Acme Aero Fab makes and get your landings down to less than 20ft to match those insane takeoffs.
one nice little plane , love all the front visability . when do flaps become air brakes ?,would it be possible to do auto deployed double leading edge foils .al la Mike patey's .are the wing extentsions removable ,and leading edge foils ? , for economical travell .
The only time I run the wing extensions are for an actual short takeoff and landing competition. The leading edge slats are easily removable for when we want to put the airplane in the trailer.
See ya in Reno?
We will be there!
Well I’m interested in learning more about the very small FlyLEDs that are not on the web site. I need a set.
Please call me at 208-880-7887 or email us at cathy@wildwestaircraft.com. We sell these awesome AeroLED lights. Those little tiny light nano wingtip lights are incredible and so are the landing lights.
*Cant u put snow tire studs in tires to stop better*
That is not something I would do because we are on pavement a lot of the time.
Land on a 72' mesa... 'Neener ! "
You think a Highlander XL w/o slats but with the cuff will land come down at a very high angle of attack? I`m kinda a weekend warrior, and I`m not looking to get into STOL as a sport. I see it as a way to have margins on my side when I use fields and grass strips. I don`t think I can maintain the skill level to land aggressively and not see where I`m going. I want a good STOL plane, but want to keep away fron the extreme end. It`s the old deal with finding the right plane for my mission. I think I am closing in on either the Highlander XL or Rans S20. Probably run an 108hp EP912ECI. You know, sensible but still kinda cool..
Call Steve and he can help you decide! -Sara
Going to Valdez this year?
No, I have so many events down here that it’s just not practical to go way up there for one event.
Is this your favorite one?
Yes, it is definitely my favorite one yet!
Where can we buy that STOL DRAG HAT?
There’s a link on our website for hats and shirts.
@@SteveHenry thanks, but there only seems to be the Wild West hats. I was after the STOL DRAG hats.
"People take it like this...uh...y'know... 300 or 400 horsepower."
Wait. WUT? Well... is it 300, or 400 HP? Gadzooks. A lightweight 300 HP "off the shelf" engine is a pretty big deal. Please say more about it.
Thought that too , mortals are still 'moving up' to 160 hp .. they talk about that at the last drag stol event were steve was piped buy a nitrous boosted beast hitting 400 hp. on a plane weighting 8-900 lbs they must pull around 4 Gs by my very rough guestimate be nice to know .
These engines are extremely tunable with the right ignition system, etc. and someone who knows what they’re doing like my friend Glenn Hall at HyperSports. With everything stock other than the ignition system, they can easily make 275 hp. On my engine I have a bigger turbo and bigger injectors, so it can go much more. I have a selector switch with preset maps in the ECU for different power levels.
We are putting together these engine packages for Highlanders and Superstol‘s
Where can you go to buy a new 3 cylinder Yamaha engine?
So you left edge performance. 😅
I still have an Edge Performance Yamaha, in YH6, but I am working with Hyper sports now on YH8 with the three cylinder Sidewinder.
Three cylinders is a lousy number for an engine! Stick to the four-cylinder.
Hey Steve with the added flap angle does the " balloon affect " get worse?
I don’t think it makes anything worse it just makes it better. I think it helps me to takeoff and land shorter.
@@SteveHenry awesome thanks for the reply can't wait to see yee haw 8 at HSFI 2023
