Pitch Latch Propeller walk-through on the Kodiak 100, Series III

Standard on every Kodiak 100 aircraft is the pitch latch propeller which allows the propeller to be shut down in "beta". The pitch-latch prop will eliminate thrust in certain conditions. For seaplane operations on the water, where there are no brakes, the pitch latch propeller can eliminate thrust on docking and on start up, reducing unwanted movement. For operations on unimproved or backcountry strips, engaging the pitch latch propeller reduces the risk of sucking up debris on engine start up or shut down.

Not a pilot but I can’t stop watching Kodiak 100 videos this plane is awesome. I am trying but I can’t find any flaws. This thing is so strong it will drive right over 9 inch tree stumps no problem. I promised my youngest son I’d pay for him to get his pilots license next summer when he is home from college, maybe I should cash in my 401K & get him one of these.

Mark we called them start locks on the TPE331. Since the Garrett engine was single shaft, you did not want the blades in feather during start.

Very nice aircraft. I have a question though. What happens if engine shuts down during flight? Feathers automatically or goes to pitch latch?🤔

You have to pull the power lever a little aft of the gate on shutdown to engage the locks.

Is the air intake heated? Usually it is chrome plated intake but I see the Kodiak is always painted.

I would think NTS would drive the blades toward feather, followed by pilot selecting feather.
