    Thank you for the great advice. Especially the upholstery thread! I’m very new to bag making and have now had two bags fall apart at the webbing. As always, a fun channel to listen too ☺😊

    Thanks for the tips! I'm planning a picnic bag for my mom-in-law & it's time to invest in some high tex thread for my new (to me) industrial machine. Thanks for the link! As always, I love your helpful videos!

    Hi, I love your channel and I've learned a lot., and I love your sense of humor.
    I have a problem getting the threads Tex 70 and Tex 90 .
    I bought threads and I had to return them to the store because they are very thick for my Juki Ddl 227
    where you get your threads 70 and 90 Tex?
    in the meantime I'm using nylon threads and upholstery thread and works great.

    Great video! I used to use Coasts Extra Strong Upholstery Thread. Are there other brands? I had problems with it jamming my machine up. (haven't tried it on my new Janome3160qdc)

    Bernina says don't use heavy duty thread in the Bobbin case. And a Bernina technician said don't use heavy duty thread in the top thread either. He said, use regular weight thread, and triple stitch.

    • @fiercekittenz
      @fiercekittenz  Рік тому

      That may be specific to Bernina machines. I’ve never had issues but I have mostly used Vikings and Janomes.

    How do you feel about "box X" stitching for securing strap ends? Less or more secure than rivets?

    • @SparkyOne549
      @SparkyOne549 Рік тому +1

      The X stitch is extremely strong. But if you want to use rivets, go for it.

    • @fiercekittenz
      @fiercekittenz  Рік тому +3

      ^^^ seconding Racergirl. The X is totally fine as well! Most of the problems I see coming from bagmakers losing straps is when it's in something like a gusset and not necessarily stitched down to the bag panel.

      I buy my thread from GeekyHardware! They have so many pretty colors. I don’t know if you can use those threads on the DDL 227. I’m not familiar with that machine :(

    Hi Kittenz. Great tips! Do you prefer nylon or polyester for the seat belt webbing, and why? Thanks so much for sharing your vast knowledge.

    • @fiercekittenz
      @fiercekittenz  Рік тому +2

      I don't really care which one. Sometimes Polyester comes in more colors, but either works just fine! The stuff I get is from Strapworks, but sometimes I'll order 10+ yards from MeeTee World Store on Aliexpress: www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804401919374.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.4.30d81802TriXz5&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa

    Do you still have your M7? I bought one after watching your vid on it but didn’t have much success with bag making with it. Still a lovely machine for other things.

    • @fiercekittenz
      @fiercekittenz  Рік тому +1

      I don't, but not because I didn't like it, just I felt I could downgrade, take the extra cash and invest it into something else. I swapped out for the Janome HD9. It doesn't have zig-zag capabilities as it's a straight stitch semi-industrial machine, but I have a serger for any of the ziggy zaggy stuff. I'm not a huge quilter either. I will do clothing and bags with it.

    • @blw1502
      @blw1502 Рік тому

      @@fiercekittenz I have an hd9 also!!! What are your thoughts? I love mine!!! Sucker is strong!!! I will say though my only issue is not with the machine so much, but the thread holder. I use one of those big cones/spools u were holding and the thread is constantly getting stuck under the cone and yanking on my tension. Also it doesn’t seem to like thin thread when I want to sew clothing. The bobbin thread keeps coming out of the case and losing tension. Probably all user error.. but I’d love to see a video on your thoughts of the hd9!!

    I only have a domestic machine mid range, I don’t know if my machine can sew any webbing.

    • @ivoryhenson1285
      @ivoryhenson1285 Рік тому +2

      It should at least be able to sew that seat belt webbing. It's pretty thin

    • @fiercekittenz
      @fiercekittenz  Рік тому +1

      Yeah this! You can do seatbelt webbing for sure. Cotton webbing is also more loosely woven than you'd think. You'd probably be just fine. I was sewing bags with domestics from 2003 to 2017. I just didn't venture into vinyl and leather until I got an industrial.

    does the upholstery thread come in different sizes too, and what size needle to go with that? great video

    • @fiercekittenz
      @fiercekittenz  Рік тому +3

      Not really because it's domestic and meant to be simpler. The needle I'd suggest would be a denim needle (90/14). You CAN get 100/16, but they're hard to come by. You have to special order them.

    Out of curiosity, do you use higher tex for construction & lower tex for top stitching?

    • @fiercekittenz
      @fiercekittenz  Рік тому +1

      Nope! I just use Tex70 or Tex90 interchangeably. I haven't noticed a significant difference in construction vs topstitching.
