- A retailer is winding down its Canadian operations, even as the country's job market continues to grow. Plus, Walmart pushes back against supplier price hikes and Indigo's website remains offline after a cyber incident. Mike Eppel reports.
Most of the 150,000 jobs are low paying in retail, grocery, restaurants, hotels. High end jobs are disappearing. Only decent jobs are City/Provincial jobs but they have a unionized tier system which has people working on call & short notice 1-2 times a week to fill in for employees who are sick or on vacation. Then once someone retires you get a full time job years later after people in line ahead of you gets their FT job first.

@tom hook richer and richer? if that is the case, interest rate wouldn't go up by triple digit increase. I guess you have NO IDEA how the economy works and how poor alot of people are there. You are very lucky.
@tom hook they always say good thing. it is marketing. they know how to present nicely. But in reality, many people are being fooled by that..... We all have our problems but our country likes to make it sounds nicer.

No need to mourn the loss of these overpriced greedy stores. They could have been booking had it not been for the ridiculous price tags.
@Jonathan Bernhardsen yup. I am pretty sure I paid hundreds for the simplest items and while I was a fool, at the time covid shut down most stores and online shipping was a nightmare
The headline should be "Bye Bye Bed, Bath and Beyond."
Walmart has always low-balled suppliers. Their push for lower costs isn't new.

No offense to City tv. But this has been a rumour for the past 3 yrs. If in fact it comes to fruition a d they', bb& b do leave Canada. And if Zellers wants already excellent brick and mortar buildings perfect for them with ample parking. 1608 the Queensway would be a perfect fit . Inmho. There's other bb stores , Canadian tire, Lowe's to attract. Customers. Boston pizza. Sunny's breakfast. Plus other Queensway grill . Lots of ppl in the area needed items. Where to go🤔 oh yeah that's right. Zellers no problem parking plus can get that need oil change or wood for the home Reno. All in the same complex Zellers should really send a franchise local hunter to have a look inmho
The Bay is using it's own stores for Zellers locations. They're not looking for new stores. Expect the "Zellers" stuff to just be clearance Bay stuff.
