The UK faced the same situation about a decade ago, which resulted in the closing down of all colleges that were there only to provide visas to international students.
How many students studying at those private colleges were actually serious students? Do yourself a favour and watch Border Security UK on youtube and you will see how many fake students were "studying" at these private colleges , just to get their post graduate work permit.
Has the situation improved now? Please enlighten me. I want to study abroad. And I don't want to fall into traps like these. Some days ago I saw a post on IDP's page which stated that students can now work for longer hours in Canada to boost the Canadian economy which had collapsed after the Pandemic. @@MarinafromPakistan In the UK, the situation improved now. However, the number of students coming to the UK after re-introducing post-study visa (PSW) has gone up by several folds. Further, the UK economy is also not doing very well at the moment. So, it may be difficult to get part-time work during the studies and a full-time job after completing studies. This year >1L Indian students came to the UK for studies. If each pays 10K pounds per year (I know students pay much more as a tuition fee for masters in science/tech. subjects), which is equivalent to 1 Billion pounds. So, the UK and other Western countries are interested in improving their economy by attracting overseas students, who pay higher tuition fees than the home students.
Working with hundreds of Indian international students over the past year has shown me that there is no way the majority of them have legitimate university degrees.
It’s all blues collar jobs even after getting a degree maybe out of 2 million Indians 1-5 will be making it otherwise all stuck in McDonald’s and security jobs 🥺
The moment any recruiters made promises for anything, it should be a red flag. I am sure these students are no stranger to these kind of scam. To say otherwise is plain naive and denial of responsibility.

There is no incentive to stop this because the universities and colleges are banking a fortune on these Indian students. Not only education institutions but landlords and local businesses take advantage of the situation by overcharging and exploiting them for very low wages. it's become a big problem and it needs to be addressed more.
The landlords have hurt even Canadians who found themselves having to move during these tumultuous times. The government talks a great deal about solutions to the housing problem but have never mentioned anything about correcting the rental situation! Those who cannot afford to buy a house are being gouged by landlords. The next generation of middle class Canadians is going to have to live with their parents for a long time, won't be able to afford the rent, the education, let alone buy a house!
When I was in college studying in a postgraduate program in international business. I found that most of the class can barely speak and write in English. When I was doing group assignments, I had to do basically 100% of the work cuz my group members can hardly write anything readable. I was not enrolled in one of those sketchy private colleges, I was in a legit public college for god sake🤦🏻♂️

My wife is from Europe, she worked hard to come here and did it the right way. Nothing wrong with going back to India after your studies and applying the right way like everyone else does. My beautiful wife spent every last penny she had but made a great life here. I know what my wife went through and it’s the way it needs to be.
When i went to Canada for my studies in 2015 at Fleming College, the class had only four international students. Three Indians and one Nigerian. In 2017, the same class admitted 100+ Indian International students and 3 Canadian students. I left Canada in 2016. It's not worth spending so much money to live in a Tundra, just to pay taxes.
This makes so much sense and I understand why there are so many international students in canada. I knew a guy who would recruit people for work in Canada and he would get paid 2000 or so per person. It's like importing slaves and slave labour. I guess we all get exploited at some point.

In my country, it's an open information that "studying" in Canada actually means mainly working while studying on the side. Canada needs the cheap labor. Edit: some just pretend to study in Canada but really, the goal is to cross the border to the US.

As I have commented earlier, all the Canadian government has to do is bring in contract workers, like what the countries in UAE have been doing. This way, education is not used a front to enter, stay and work.

The law simply allows a private company to present a job contract to a person and sign it and bring the person on a a visa. The employer need not prove if the person's job cannot be filled by a local unlike a sponsored Work Visa in Canada

As a former international student in Canada who’s gone through all of that; the harsh winters, super high tuition, homesickness, employment uncertainty.. my advice, RESEARCH BEFORE YOU COME TO CANADA. Getting here is easy, staying here and thriving is a whole different story. You will have to work doubly hard, adapt quickly, have a fortitude of steel, and please TAKE CARE OF YOUR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH. The system was not made for international students' benefit or local Canadian students benefit. As a local Canadian I was homeless during university. It all just goes to landlords, politicians, and retirees.
Don't come here, stay home you love so much. Demand changes there. Fight for your rights there. Don't come to Canada with yiur rules. Don't expect Canada to put everything upside down to accommodate every international student needs and wants.
And how are those people going to get PR without atleast a somewhat good education? You need to be in a skilled job to get PR. Those private career colleges won't help. There are many government vocational institutions you could go to like BCIT
I graduated uni in Canada in 2010. Since then, the school and neighbourhoods surrounding it are unrecognizable due to the massive increase in int'l students.
It's disgusting really. I was the ONLY student in a class of 30 who wasn't from Punjab... however I was the "Majority" being Caucasian 🙄 I got bullied so hard

I guess the students want to live in Toronto because there are lots of jobs for the unskilled there? It still makes no sense to me at all. If you can't speak English or understand it, how can you expect to get a professional job here? The proficiency exam should be oral if you want to pass it so you can succeed in a Canadian classroom where the instruction is probably oral.
I heard about the suffocating pressure, loneliness and high suicide rates of international students from a university admin over 10 years ago and I'm shocked it only escalated!

@@eduardotorres3457 I remember one guy in my program was from Chile, it was 4x more expensive for his registration fee and tuition, he didn't pay the bill for the last year and never officially got his degree. I think he was fine with it, in the end we realized nobody cared about that piece of paper that much. As far as I know he's doing great now!

Last year, I was working full time, budgeting groceries, unable to afford date nights, and missing time with my kids. Now I learned how to make money online. Now am a SAHM, homeschooling, and making profits every week.
I lived in India because my parents did not have the money to send me abroad. I am supposed to travel to Canada in another 5days with a work permit offered from my current employer in India with a salary which is above average in Canada. As an experienced professional worked in Indian IT market for more than 7 years, I want the Indian students to know that if you are planning to work in core subjects like mechanical, civil, electrical or electronics, only then you should consider this difficult option. Otherwise in India, there is a massive shortage in the IT & Software market. With 5+ years of experience, with right skill you can earn 30-40LPA easily. So be careful before putting your life & your parents' only means of survival at risk.
I left India for work overseas 35 years. We didn't leave home with money, because we left home to earn money not to carry money to a foreign country. I continue to believe if you are leaving home with money, you are being exploited.
That’s how you do it. India is a big country with many industries. If you want to see what Canada is like, and have a second base, go there. Otherwise Canada is not a country with many opportunities.
I am a part time lyft driver I had this passenger once he was Indian, he told me about himself and this was about a year ago who had come to Canada to "study" he literally told me he was working two jobs and at the same time having someone else attend his online class that was in Kelowna. He was living Surrey, I asked why can't he attend it himself and also said he has a lower chance of passing the class so he a rather pay for it and have someone else achieve his grades for him. This country is going in the wrong direction. Shame on people who come here and take advantage of the genuine system we have.
In the USA you basically cannot work as a student unless it is on the campus itself. It's very hard to get a legal job as a student here on student visa, of course you can always get a job under the table.
What about the toll it takes on young Canadians, who can't afford to move out of their parent's house and feel like strangers in their own classrooms? Why are Canadians ALWAYS ignored?

Many times children have no desire to leave India. It is the parents who looks at neighbors or relatives kids and want their kids to enjoy the same. Most kids cannot say no to parents and get stuck for life.

This happened 20 years ago in China. I was one of them. Back then, there was no work permit allowed while studying. I worked under the table for $4 per hour in a restaurant. Luckily I had tips to compensate income. It got me through university. I was lucky to get a good job after graduation. Everything was good afterwards.

Where do these people get the idea that just getting any degree in a non-name college is a ticket to success? Be smart. Do your homework. Don’t put your family under pressure. It is really not worth it.
still think most of them do it for the PR which still doesn’t make sense. Have a few internationals in engineering classes who do basically the bare minimum. thankfully for us most internationals do try their best in engineering courses since it isn’t a scam college, but still nuts that there are some that barely try in our engineering courses
I feel so bad for these students. Those teachers mentioning that we will look back 20 years from now and feel ashamed about this situation. Well, the situation hasn’t changed much since I came to Canada in 95. Education was a business back then and it is still a business. I got my education in some of the top universities in Canada but never felt like it was for education, it was more like running business for these universities.
Thank goodness I chose the United States for my education. In 2010, I had two options -Texas A&M University and University of Waterloo. I thought of Waterloo at first (being top university in Canada vs 15th in US) as I was naive, but Texas A&M gave me teaching assistantship which meant 100 % tuition scholar and monthly stipend. Being from a lower middle class family in India, I took the option. Even 13 years down the line, that was the best decision of my life. I had chance to work with best researchers and professors in world, work in highly funded research labs, publish papers and patent and later get good job in my domain. I never aimed for green card and moved back to India. I applied for Canada and even received ITA but didn't go ahead. Things are not perfect but even today in India, most people are impressed by some niche work I did in US.
I spent 6 years in university and 7 years in college after that. I had absolutely no idea this was going on. I also didn’t really understand why international students had to pay such a high tuition fee. As a domestic student, I already struggled to pay my tuition fees.
It’s heartbreaking. But I wanted to go to ivy leag university but my family could not afford help me so I went locally. You cannot afford foreign education you can’t afford it. Thats that.
Its basically because the government wants to limit newcomers and if the tuition fees werent this high for international syudents Canada would have a flood of students.

True..I was a student in the us and worked there.. returned back to India and found a good position with a cost of living adjusted salary equivalent more than what i made in the us.with all the comforts of home.

It’s true that Most students do not come here to study, study visa is just a stepping stone for pr, the dream of settling abroad comes with big price tag. Students have been exploited by agents, collages, employers. System is rigid, not only for a particular group but for everyone of us.
I don’t think this is an Canadian problem alone. Australia has its fair share especially Melbourne. Lot of dubious colleges which aren’t accredited or recognised. The lure of international education and better life will always be a draw card regardless….
Currently, I'm studying in Canada and this video opened my eyes to the dark side of Canadian college that I never knew about. What I can say is never let your guard down. I did the research, I picked the right college. Even in Canada, I stay alerted. Only by staying strong and resilient, the Canadian dream might come true.

This is What true journalism is Putting light on social issues and projecting them for people to think and make corrections in society.
Just do one thing, limit number of international students to 60% - 70% in every college. And college cannot be started if rest 30% - 40% of seats for domestic students is not filled first. If any college wants to go for international students only, then their admission process/audit should go through Canadian government. So there is no exploitation of international students.
This is primarily happening in private career colleges which are shady degree mills. These private colleges are nearly 100% foreign students in a generic office building. Yes, private colleges should proabbly be shut down, not sure why the government allows them.

Actually, the top Indian colleges are very competitive and difficult to get into. Most of these students you see going out of India could not actually convert the better Indian Universities. With growing "social" culture, there is always a need to show a better life to the community. You can't do that with an average life in India. So a lot of these kids choose to go outside with the hopes of the New World. Alas, the reality is the same everywhere.
I went to Seneca College and was classmates with a number of Indian students. The things some of them had to go through to get there was astonishing. I'm not surprised by this report at all.

It’s not just a toll on students, the mass influx has destroyed rental affordability in every Canadian city.
And kept wages low for many positions
And robbing Canadians and permanent residents of jobs. I was let go by my landlady to accommodate students.

The UK faced the same situation about a decade ago, which resulted in the closing down of all colleges that were there only to provide visas to international students.
How many students studying at those private colleges were actually serious students? Do yourself a favour and watch Border Security UK on youtube and you will see how many fake students were "studying" at these private colleges , just to get their post graduate work permit.

@@MarinafromPakistan In the UK, the situation improved now. However, the number of students coming to the UK after re-introducing post-study visa (PSW) has gone up by several folds. Further, the UK economy is also not doing very well at the moment. So, it may be difficult to get part-time work during the studies and a full-time job after completing studies. This year >1L Indian students came to the UK for studies. If each pays 10K pounds per year (I know students pay much more as a tuition fee for masters in science/tech. subjects), which is equivalent to 1 Billion pounds. So, the UK and other Western countries are interested in improving their economy by attracting overseas students, who pay higher tuition fees than the home students.
Working with hundreds of Indian international students over the past year has shown me that there is no way the majority of them have legitimate university degrees.

There is no incentive to stop this because the universities and colleges are banking a fortune on these Indian students. Not only education institutions but landlords and local businesses take advantage of the situation by overcharging and exploiting them for very low wages. it's become a big problem and it needs to be addressed more.

As a university educator, this has been going on for years. Education has become commoditized. It is taking its toll on educators as well.
When I was in college studying in a postgraduate program in international business. I found that most of the class can barely speak and write in English. When I was doing group assignments, I had to do basically 100% of the work cuz my group members can hardly write anything readable. I was not enrolled in one of those sketchy private colleges, I was in a legit public college for god sake🤦🏻♂️

When i went to Canada for my studies in 2015 at Fleming College, the class had only four international students. Three Indians and one Nigerian.
In 2017, the same class admitted 100+ Indian International students and 3 Canadian students.
I left Canada in 2016.

The law simply allows a private company to present a job contract to a person and sign it and bring the person on a a visa. I guess the students want to live in Toronto because there are lots of jobs for the unskilled there? It still makes no sense to me at all. If you can't speak English or understand it, how can you expect to get a professional job here? The proficiency exam should be oral if you want to pass it so you can succeed in a Canadian classroom where the instruction is probably oral.

@@eduardotorres3457 I remember one guy in my program was from Chile, it was 4x more expensive for his registration fee and tuition, he didn't pay the bill for the last year and never officially got his degree. I think he was fine with it, in the end we realized nobody cared about that piece of paper that much. As far as I know he's doing great now!

As an experienced professional worked in Indian IT market for more than 7 years, I want the Indian students to know that if you are planning to work in core subjects like mechanical, civil, electrical or electronics, only then you should consider this difficult option. Otherwise in India, there is a massive shortage in the IT & Software market. With 5+ years of experience, with right skill you can earn 30-40LPA easily. So be careful before putting your life & your parents' only means of survival at risk.
I left India for work overseas 35 years. We didn't leave home with money, because we left home to earn money not to carry money to a foreign country.

I am a part time lyft driver I had this passenger once he was Indian, he told me about himself and this was about a year ago who had come to Canada to "study" he literally told me he was working two jobs and at the same time having someone else attend his online class that was in Kelowna. He was living Surrey, I asked why can't he attend it himself and also said he has a lower chance of passing the class so he a rather pay for it and have someone else achieve his grades for him. This country is going in the wrong direction. Shame on people who come here and take advantage of the genuine system we have.

This happened 20 years ago in China. I was one of them. Back then, there was no work permit allowed while studying. I worked under the table for $4 per hour in a restaurant. Luckily I had tips to compensate income. It got me through university. I was lucky to get a good job after graduation. Everything was good afterwards.

I feel so bad for these students. Those teachers mentioning that we will look back 20 years from now and feel ashamed about this situation. Well, the situation hasn’t changed much since I came to Canada in 95. Education was a business back then and it is still a business. I got my education in some of the top universities in Canada but never felt like it was for education, it was more like running business for these universities.

Thank goodness I chose the United States for my education. In 2010, I had two options -Texas A&M University and University of Waterloo. I thought of Waterloo at first (being top university in Canada vs 15th in US) as I was naive, but Texas A&M gave me teaching assistantship which meant 100 % tuition scholar and monthly stipend. Being from a lower middle class family in India, I took the option.
Even 13 years down the line, that was the best decision of my life. I had chance to work with best researchers and professors in world, work in highly funded research labs, publish papers and patent and later get good job in my domain.
I never aimed for green card and moved back to India. I applied for Canada and even received ITA but didn't go ahead. Things are not perfect but even today in India, most people are impressed by some niche work I did in US.
I am thinking about doing MS in USA .

That's school is no joke. I always say that people who graduate from Harvard to go to Wall Street, but A&M grads go to NASA.

I spent 6 years in university and 7 years in college after that.
I had absolutely no idea this was going on. I also didn’t really understand why international students had to pay such a high tuition fee. As a domestic student, I already struggled to pay my tuition fees.
Really? Im domestic too and OSAP grants pay for half my degree + OSAP loans that pay the other half.
It’s heartbreaking. But I wanted to go to ivy leag university but my family could not afford help me so I went locally. You cannot afford foreign education you can’t afford it. Thats that.
Its basically because the government wants to limit newcomers and if the tuition fees werent this high for international syudents Canada would have a flood of students.
That’s unfortunate. There are so many highly skilled people from all over the world.

True, kids in this generation are going to Canada to study as a trend without any research for their near future. If you want to go to Canada for your future then try PR and not the easiest way and regret
True..I was a student in the us and worked there.. returned back to India and found a good position with a cost of living adjusted salary equivalent more than what i made in the us.with all the comforts of home.
That might be true in Bangalore Chennai Pune etc. No decent IT company to speak off in Punjab except Infosys.

Toll on students? I’m confused. Say it will take 75 years to pay off their debt? Then don’t come to Canada. If you are rich come to Canada. Want to get an education in a foreign country. Don’t expect a job. Don’t expect privileges if you aren’t Canadian. Seriously is this a shock? Don’t send your kids if you can’t afford it. Don’t expect to move to Canada and get Canadians to pay. It just seems that the expectations are you come as a student you stay as you prefer.
It is very sad to see that Govt of Canada (both federal and provincial) Officials talk the talk and don't walk the walk. So many violations are taking place, yet no action...

It’s true that Most students do not come here to study, study visa is just a stepping stone for pr, the dream of settling abroad comes with big price tag. Students have been exploited by agents, collages, employers. System is rigid, not only for a particular group but for everyone of us.
I don’t think this is an Canadian problem alone. Australia has its fair share especially Melbourne. Lot of dubious colleges which aren’t accredited or recognised. The lure of international education and better life will always be a draw card regardless….
These Indian international students aren't young students! Some of them were 40 year olds!
Currently, I'm studying in Canada and this video opened my eyes to the dark side of Canadian college that I never knew about. What I can say is never let your guard down. I did the research, I picked the right college. Even in Canada, I stay alerted. Only by staying strong and resilient, the Canadian dream might come true.

This is What true journalism is Putting light on social issues and projecting them for people to think and make corrections in society.

Just do one thing, limit number of international students to 60% - 70% in every college. And college cannot be started if rest 30% - 40% of seats for domestic students is not filled first. If any college wants to go for international students only, then their admission process/audit should go through Canadian government. So there is no exploitation of international students.
This is primarily happening in private career colleges which are shady degree mills. These private colleges are nearly 100% foreign students in a generic office building. Yes, private colleges should proabbly be shut down, not sure why the government allows them.

That's still happening with international students here from China/Hong Kong

Someone is always making money on others sufferings. This is disgusting and so heartbreaking for these kids and their families. As a country, we can do better than this.
Post secondary education is not a RIGHT. It is a privilege. If you cannot afford it, then don't do it. Funny enough, why is it only Punjabi students that are having all these problem? Punjab is part of India and not whole INdia.
Both countries need to do better, more realistic information spread is paramount.

If youre talented and skilled, youll shine no matter where you are. The value of gold is the same whether its in a jewellery shop or in a ditch. So yes, if you have the financial freedom to send your kids to foreign, go for it, if youre poor already, then beware of the risks before u take the leap of faith.

Actually, the top Indian colleges are very competitive and difficult to get into. Most of these students you see going out of India could not actually convert the better Indian Universities. With growing "social" culture, there is always a need to show a better life to the community. You can't do that with an average life in India. So a lot of these kids choose to go outside with the hopes of the New World. Alas, the reality is the same everywhere.

I went to Seneca College and was classmates with a number of Indian students. The things some of them had to go through to get there was astonishing. I'm not surprised by this report at all.
There are countless students who don’t speak English over here.
