I will post updates here in posted comment on if the new PCV valve helps the oil consumption usage. I will report it after the next oil change and how much oil is consumed after that oil change. I use SuperTech 5w20 High mileage oil with SuperTech ST6607 oil filter. I Top off with same weight oil either SuperTech 5w20 or Havoline 5w20 - Edit - Changed oil and used 5w20 havoline conventional Monitoring how much oil is burned It used to be 2-3 qrts every 3k miles So far it’s burned 2/3 of 1 qt oil and is about 1,500 miles from next oil change. Final update Changing PCV seems to reduce oil consumption by about 50% Next oil changed oil to synthetic blend havoline 5w20 high mileage from Walmart (6qt box). -- EDIT -- 2024 another thing that can cause high oil consumption on the honda V6 is the VCM system. in a later video Disabled the VCM system with S-VCM Controller so it always runs as a v6. since then it has consumed 50-60% LESS oil per an oil change cycle
I've had some PCV that I have replaced in the past where they would seem good and freely move back and forth but with a new one in it wouldnt do too much, Ive only ever had a few of my cars burn oil though in the past because of it, it used to be something that you were supposed to change every 15k miles or something, now we dont really hear about replacing them anymore like that.
Thank you for your thoughts and watching my vid. I looked up on my 2001 maxima it says to check it every 30k and replace as needed. Recently replaced it and it went from consuming over 2 qrts oil every 3k to maybe 3/4 qrt. And it leaks some oil also. On the Honda Odyssey it was using a lot of oil. So I figured for $7 go ahead and replace the PVC. Couldn’t hurt. Yah I don’t know what the replacement service schedule. On it. I have heard from some every few years would not be a bad idea Side note The maxima has a rear main seal leak and I wonder if the PCV plugged up contributed to it . The odyssey had a blown valve gasket and was leaking oil and was replaced not long ago during 200k maintenance including full timing belt replacement
Yes that’s what I have been using. It’s helped a lot but still leaks. Just less now. Thanks for the tip. On the maxima which recommends 5w30. I have moved to 10w30, also also use oil stabilizer. The oil stabilizer and thicker oil didn’t reduce the consumption of oil. That’s when I decided to change the PVC on the maxima. It had never been replaced and was 20 years old. And basically disintegrated in my hands when I touched it. Actually part of it fell into the rear valve cover. That was a mess to get out. But replaced pvc , hose and grommet. Actually after that it ran better and oddly enough transmission shifted better. On odyssey I don’t dare to move away from 5w20 with its VCM engine.
There is not a set time frame. I know on my 2001 maxima it says check and/or replace every 30k. But every 100k wouldn’t be a bad idea. It’s a very cheep part.
Unsure how to answer your question, Mine didn’t rattle as much, But did rattle some. Post PCV replacement my oil consumption dropped about 1/2 per every 3k miles . This may not totally a solve oil consumption problem but will rule out a plugged up PCV valve by changing it. The VCM engines are known to burn oil as they age .
@@dfields9511 ok, thanks for the prompt reply. I bought the same one on eBay. I bought one at the auto part store and they do not rattle. I’ve seen other videos where the new ones rattle

nice and easy install. Thanks D Fields
How often do u have to do it? Every 100k mile?

My new pcv doesn’t rattle when I shake it, is that normal?

What kind of oil you put on the part ?
Just the oil that is used by the car. In this case 5w20 high mileage synthetic blend Havoline
