I like to do a bit of an overlap weld a lot of times when I’m working on thin stuff, it’s just easier than burning through constantly and chasing holes. After watching u so much I find myself thinking….ok, don’t overthink this, what would Tony do? 😂

What I like so much about your channel Tony is that you only use simple tools and you still manage to get the job done. Where as other folks have thousands upon thousands of dollar's invested in tools and they still can't do what I've seen you do. That's what makes your channel so popular in my eyes. So keep up the Good Work bye...your tips and tricks are great.

Thanks again Fitz for all you do to share your skills . I can now make repairs and recreate things I never thought possible before thanks to your many videos Just in the past couple years I have improved dramatically and my confidence level has soared. The more of your videos I watch and the more rust repairs I attempt to make on my fleet of old junk the better and easier it gets.

A friend dropped off an A-body Barracuda trunk lid with similar rust damage for me to practice on. This video will be really helpful as I attempt to repair it. Not sure I want to do a great job though, because he has several vintage cars that need rust repair and I suspect offering me the trunk lid for practice is a trap! I’ll end up having to fix all his cars before doing my own!

I have a small "Hobby" blaster - holds about 50kg of blast media (I use crushed glass) - I feed it air from my petrol compressor because it murders my electric compressor - it blasts waaay more gently than a proper indiustrial blaster but it blasts real nice - close to zero heat, whips off paint & rust in a quick pass & gets into every nook & cranny. I despise running it because the grit gets into every nook & cranny of me as well - but damn it's great for stuff like this ^^.
I repair rust for a living - that ^^ is my daily work. I doubt people realise just how much time goes into running one pass of weld across a full hood/trunk width.. or how long it takes to grind them welds. I usually have some lid/bonnet that is Unobtainium sitting in front of me - I repair them the same way you do, exact same technique - which is why I love your Channel, Fitz - it's the proper nitty gritty.

I stumbled onto your channel just looking for some tips how to repair some rust on my 73 Mazda down here in Australia, I'm a mechanic so I can fix the parts that make it go, but I am no bodywork man. But after a few of your videos, I'm ready to give it a shot. And would you believe, the weekend just gone, I noticed my bootlid has some rust bubbles starting to appear along the lip, so I'll add that to the list.
Thanks Fitzee, you make it easy for even people like me to understand what I should be doing.
