Normally I would say replace the metal. But in this case, the damage not being any worse, and being you absolutely killed the rust. I say GOOD REPAIR! Keep up the good work. Phillip Hall

Agreed and we don’t know what the customers budget was. Painters/body men get a bad wrap sometimes, but they got to put food on the table like everyone else. Some folks just won’t pay for the “correct” repair. I’d say for what was done, he did it the best way possible 😎
Def a great practical repair …. unless the car is kicked out side all its life and even if it is it will out last other areas of car that could be half way to rust through from the inside to out ! …. good as new !! And this dude is a great no nonsense get it done guy ….

FYI that is how I fixed all my rust back in the 80s before I had a mig welder. Lasted for many years. Totally LEGIT REPAIR.... Now I weld in patches. just because I have a welder.

FYI SEM rust mort is really the same as OSPHO, I used sem rust mort 35 years ago that is where I learned to treat rust. It really works. I did several jobs with it and 20 years later no rust.

OSPHO is very good for this. It's Oxygenated Phosphate, and once the loose rust is cleaned off, it converts the remaining oxidized metal (rust) into inert carbon. The trick is to let it sit overnight, then wipe off the excess and prime and paint immediately. Don't allow moisture to set in and wash off the OSPHO. Its what we use for Marine Applications and its by far the BEST we've found.

What’s up, Master. Just in case you remember past comments: I finally got my truck back from the body shop. Almost 11 months ago I dropped it off, and it’s finally done. Maybe I should video it and post it on UA-cam. It isn’t perfect, but, after 10 months, I’m taking it. I’m replacing mechanical and electrical parts as I go. I started it in November of 2020 when I replaced the dashboard. It’s been so long, I can’t even get used to the brakes. HAHAHAHAHA

I've done repairs like this on a lot of my vehicles. I usually use the pick end of my body hammer to slightly cave in the areas around the rust holes so the filler can sink in and be thicker.
I live in Southern Ohio and they put a lot of salt on the roads in the winter. So it's almost impossible to find a vehicle without at least a little rust. But usually there's a lot of bad rust and holes. Rust repair is something I'm used to. And since I'm poor, I do it the cheapest way possible. I'm not building show cars and I'm not reselling them. I drive vehicles until there's no life left.

Just a warning to folks about those wire wheels. Do not let the wheel get close to any part of your body. The wires will break off and shoot into your skin. I had one wire shoot 1-in below the skin into my knee just 2 weeks ago. Had to go to the doctor to get it cut out. Because the wires are spiraled they sink deeper into your skin with movement of your body.

Now when you put the rust removing chemical what did you use to clean it with before you put the fiberglass, what do you use to clean the surface once you have started sanding the fiberglass. Do you use any cleaner after you have primed?
You really don’t have to clean it if you let it dry and sit for 24 hours. You could lightly sand it if you would like.
