Hey Exzen, I don't play Ele but I am growing to like it, can you go over the difference between scepter/dagger vs scepter/focus? Just a general overview of pros and cons. Thanks in advance and keep up the great content!
Hey, it's a good question. The scepter/Focus build is easier to play and more forgiving (it is still hard to play and many will tell you not very forgiving), since it has a lot more defensive utility. Focus brings some very strong defensive skills, with a reflect (earth 4), an area projectile denial (air 4) and an invulnerability (earth 5). It also has arguably the best cc skill in the game, which is an unblockable 4 second knockdown with 900 range (air 5). This essentially allows you to stay at range and trade with other ranged classes pretty well. The main downside to it is that you do need to kite constantly to create distance since you have no real melee options. Scepter/Dagger is very different. Dagger has none of the defensive utility Focus brings, but instead gives you a great mobility skill (air 4) and some good melee burst options (fire 5 and earth 5) as well as some aoe cc (earth 4 and air 5). This is a much more offensive build, capable of one shot combing so many builds the downside is that you are quite weak to anything that can out range you, such as ranger, since you have very few ways to negate the damage. It therefore requires you to position yourself carefully and use line of sight to protect yourself. It's therefore a fair bit harder to play. I also run it with unravel, which essentially allows you to switch up attunements even faster than the Focus build, so I think this probably has a higher skill ceiling as well as a higher skill floor. If you are starting out, I would highly recommend you run scepter focus, at least until you feel comfortable with the Weaver and fresh air mechanics as well as the scepter skills.
Brilliant clips as always brother. Why the glyph of power though over something like tp or mistform? Is it for the burning + vuln procs to max out your burst? If so - stud
I've tried several skills on this build and settled on glyph as it offers both offensive and defensive options. Firstly it's a low cooldown stunbreak, which I think is required given how much cc is around - the fact that it can also be used to add 25% extra dmg on the next 5 attacks also means it can be used as a great tool for maxing the burst, as you put it. The vuln and burns (even chill in water) are useful but honestly aren't the main reason for taking it. Lightning Flash would be good if it was also a stunbreak and dagger has extra mobility on air 4, so I find the teleport on it less important. Mstform is obviously a strong defensive skill and stunbreak, but it has a long cooldown - double that of glyph - and you can't pressure enemies while using it. I appreciate its a good safe stomp, but this build really shines when you can pressure enemies.
@@Exzen that's slick, I'll have to try it! Reason I mention burn is you're also getting 10% damage off the fire traitline when you've applied it. Totally agree that the best way to stay alive is to keep the pressure up - especially when you've ditched the defensive utility of focus too
Insane gameplay mate, as always. Do you recommend picking up ele for roaming, or is it mostly a very powerful "meme" spec? Hard to judge by compilation clips and angry people on the ele forums haha. How does it fair up to the other ones such as sb ranger, reaper, dh? I love looking at ele gameplay. Cheers!
Ele is a good roamer if you can play it well. In general you need to put in a bit more effort than with other classes to get the same result, so whether I recommend it depends on whether you are likely to be put off by this and a potentially steep learning curve (although some of the condi builds are a bit easier and more forgiving to play). Fresh Air Weaver is definitely more than a meme spec and is a very reasonable duelist. While this is obviously a montage full of clips I have selected, I do regularly win 1vX (I also regularly die 1vX). Compared to some of the other specs you mentioned like ranger/reaper/dh, ele can definitely hold its own, although it's not currently in the bracket of "overpowered" and they are all easier to play. If you are willing to put in the effort to learn it and don't get put off while you are dying in the process (lowest armor, lowest hp RIP), it is very rewarding!
@@Exzen As a long time Tempest main, I find that I still need constant practice to be good at roaming, especially on weaver. All that even though my very first ascended item ever was the wvw scepter because I have done fresh air ele/weaver more than anything besides aurashare.
On this build, yeah. If you go full mara you will over cap crit chance, so if you're going full offence, you will want a valk/mara/zerk mix. This is obviously OK, but you have very little defensive skills with dagger offhand and you will be in melee more, so much squishier than if you were running with focus offhand. Also, you'll be hitting Dragons Tooth, Phoenix and Fire grab for about 15k, which is honestly overkill. The defensive stats on Cele really make a difference in my opinion, I find I can take a lot more hits (I don't get one shot by pew pew rangers), not to mention it helps with boon duration for might stacking and some extra condi duration and dmg for the burns.
Thanks! It's the Ember Infusion: wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ember_Infusion It drops at Halloween, so if you want it, it will be at its cheapest now. It will likely cost you around 900 gold though.
@@Exzen thanks for the reply! Abit out of budget atm for that xD Been running your build in spvp, alot of fun but so hard! How do you deal with alot of condies?
@@Balsfjordproductions Yeah, not easily affordable! I'm not sure the build would be as effective in sPvP because of the limited stat options with the amulet system. For condis, I am usually ok with Ether renewal (the heal), condi removal on fire attunement (because of the aura trait) and you can also switch to water for cleansing wave (water 5) and the frozen aura on water 4 (1 removal on aura and 2 on transmute). You could also pick up a cleansing sigil if you're really struggling still.

Hehe, I'm not sure this build can be nerfed without making the meta elementalist builds virtually unplayable. The ele community mostly seem to be in agreement that ele doesn't do enough damage xD In all seriousness though, this build uses the highest burst combination of weapons and traits (no defensive traits), there is basically only one decent defensive skill, which is a utility skill (arcane shield) and ele is the class with the lowest armor/hp pool. Also, it is an even more difficult version of FA Weaver, which is widely considered one of the hardest things to play in the game. It's more likely to be incidentally buffed, rather than nerfed. If you consider that Ranger can pull off stupidly high bursts with longbow 2, sic em and One Wolf Pack, Engi can pull off mass one shots with grenade barrage and both can do them from stealth... I don't think this is that bad, considering it has almost no defensive skills and no stealth. Even DH can pull off 18k+ true shots from stealth, while having loads of defensive utility.
