The head-on 20mm hit on the 21 looks like it caught him right on the windscreen... most likely this is a DCSism as I doubt the damage model (especially on such an old module) is particularly detailed, but in real life that windscreen is known to tank 20mm hits. I've seen a few photos from Angola of hits from SADF 20mm AAA where the windscreen stood up to it.
Aiming rockets is fine in the F-5. You're using A2A technique, tho. You tend to pull the piper through the target and release when they are in one spot. That's not how this works, if you apply any sort of G, your aim will be off. So unlike A2A, if you do A2G, you'll need to find a way to plant the piper on the target, have the airplane stable and then fire. No lateral or vertical movement, actually do the work and put the thing on the thing and then fire. You'll see a dramatic increase in target accuracy.
I was getting them where I wanted, the issue was more that it wasn’t on the first volley - but I’m not convinced it ever would be - and that I couldn’t actually see the target, only where it was shooting from. Are HE rockets the best thing to use with the F-5? I don’t know how DCS models the differences between HE, WP and HEAT, do they all actually have a use case or are they just included in the sim for completionist’s sake? I can imagine the importance of your technique would be a lot more applicable to bombs.
lmao what? I did the rocket tutorial for the F-5 and all it taught me was that it is way to complex to get all parameters right to be able to aim them according to procedures. Literally impossible to replicate unless if you're in a sterile environment.
@@Bullet4MyEnemy Well, don't be too hard on yourself. Rockets have never been precise weapons. HE is not modelled well. Just assume that any sort of splash damage won't happen in DCS for the time being. About not seeing your target, approach it at an angle so you can see it on your left or right side. I don't remember the aimpoint for the F-5 anymore, but try putting the target in the corner where the canopy bow meets the rail of your cockpit, then roll in on the target. Should get you into a decent starting place with an angle that's not too steep or shallow. Now, if you want to do it properly in the F-5, you'd have to memorise a whole lot of charts and set your piper to the parameters to start sniping. Or you just do what you did and use your first 2 as a rough aim point and then adjust. And now you really want to buy an F-5 book from the Vietnam era, cos they did that shit. :D
F-5 is my primary, I dabble a little in all the modules. But I have a lot of hours in the F-5. The rockets are accurate, but you have to work for it. And if a single rocket will get the job done, a volley of rockets will get it done better. If you're carrying rockets you'd be lucky to get 3-4 good passes, more area than if you were carrying bombs. But less damage.
@@007999999999999999 The tutorial is just to show you what to practice, you still have to put in the work. The trick is in creating repeatable parameters at the time of release while also trying not to get shot yourself. A2G in the F-5 is like dueling at high noon in the wild west. Also, if you really want to get those kills and you can tell early on that your run isn't going well then peel off and reset rather than getting deeper in range and taking "lucky shots".
I am suprised you haven't used the A/A1 GUNS mode when engaging. Or it's just me who can't imagine using the MSL mode for guns... :P Good video though, actually kinda helped me fly the Tiger in situations like these
ur viewing technique is so smooth and i looks so easy how u do it. can you explain if it´s just practice, a nice TrackIR setup or do u use keys too to alter your position?
Hey! I recently have been experiencing problems on dcs especially on enigmas cold war I noticed that we have the same computer specs, could i have your dcs setting and any other settings that you use like your nvidia control panel settings, thanks!
@@Bullet4MyEnemy Fragmentation isn't modelled and overpressure does practically nothing in real life either, for such small weapons and against even lightly armoured targets (for a T-55, maximum miss distance to achieve a mission kill with a Mk 82 is about 10 feet per USAF figures - about a third the length of the actual tank itself). The combination of dramatically overestimating the effectiveness of light weaponry against armour and the *actual* problem of exposed infantry or trucks not being damaged by near misses which would frag the hell out of them has resulted in some servers adopting "splash damage fixing scripts" which instead make everything comically over-effective. It's a bit of a mess but until ED figure out how to approximate fragmentation against light targets without causing PC fires every time someone cuts loose with an entire broadside of rockets, it is what it is. The US rockets are also quite small and most of their warheads kind of suck, which doesn't help. The MiG-21 S-24s are currently broken and far more powerful than they ought to be (compare to ED's S-24s on the Su-24/Mi-24/etc.), and you only get two shots of two rockets each with them. I've found the S-13s on the Su-25 and Mi-24 to be most effective, they will one-shot an M60 on a direct hit and a near miss will kill most light targets, plus you get a boatload of them compared to S-24s or S-25s. I don't generally do much ground pounding in the F-5, but its bombs are probably the best bet if you can land them accurately. The most efficient killers are Rockeyes, but I don't remember if it can carry them.
To be honest I'm not entirely sure because there's little real consistency with damage calculations. HE tends to be better for most things but I haven't shot enough Hydras to say for sure that it applies there too. For added comedy... HE tank shells will often oneshot any other tank through the front armour, not plunging fire through the roof but *literally through the front armour*, because of how the damage calculations work. The specific reason was explained to me once but I don't recall it now.
Just found your channel. Love the videos dude! Happy I have a backlog of DCS videos to watch while I work lol.

ZSU-57? Nothing to worry about then! 😂
I can confirm that Viggen and Fishbed are very similar words :D
also congrats for 10k subs Bullet, you definitely deserve much much more.

The worst gun in DCS is the GIAT of the Gazelle.....its like throwing walnuts by hand

I can’t abide having a moving gun reticle, much easier to sim when it’s not bouncing about all over the place.
The AIM-9B whisperer
😅
The rockets ive noticed need like a 20 depression on the manual sight
Depends on dive angle, shit’s annoying 😅

It’s all TrackIR5 with a lot of trial and error tweaking the settings, but zoom is on a two way throttle switch.

So have I as well tbh, his V2 server runs like ass even on the MT build, but I’ll try to remember to check settings next time I’m at the PC.
Loving the vids 👍
You pretty much need the Mig 21 heavy rockets to kill ground units. Light rockets are basically useless.
Yeah, seems like splash damage isn’t much of a thing in DCS

Are you going to play some wt sim now that the new update dropped?
I will be taking a look at some point, yes
Glad to hear it
@@Bullet4MyEnemy good to hear. The radar lead indicators might be fun.

Them and the new hit effects/fire damage etc are the main draws for sure.
Go for a lower attack run
