The biggest advantage is the agility and ability to develop new cars at such a rapid pace. In the time it takes Tesla Cybertruck to go from development start to full production, BYD can start fron scratch, introduce the car, do a mid-cycle refresh and be on to the next generation of the car. That lets them innovate, iterate and improve rapidly. Their automated production processes are also designed to evolve quickly, versus massive, expensive production methods that only work if you have a limited number of vehicles and produce a lot of them for multiple years. They actually listen and adapt, rather than expecting users to conform. If you do not think BYD cars are great yet... just wait a few months.

I dont hear that last term anymore, but it is exactly right here. Word.
@@msmith3395 Many of the people who actually make the cars are not lazy. Management is often lazy. BYD has always turned a gross profit (selling for more than what it costs) and always spends more of that gross profit on R&D to make their products better than they do realizing a net profit. They reinvest and put their money to work, rather than being greedy. Their gross profit margin now beats Tesla and their R&D beats just about everyone.
When you actually own, drive and understand the systems, BYDs are brilliant. Easily match and often exceed Tesla in most respects. I feel qualified to comment as we one one of each. Its no surprise BYD is doing well, its simple, they are selling a good quality vehicle of the type people want at a great price.
I’m an investor in BYD but mainly in Tesla. I bought shares a year last June at 78 dollars. Since then they briefly went to around 81 dollars but then they have fallen to around 45 dollars and like most shares they have gone up and down and over recent months the seem to have hung around the 60 dollar mark. I know that for me buying shares is a gamble with my assets but I believe that the future is electric and sustainability so it’s an investment in what’s best for the future. The point I want to make is, we have seen this tremendous growth in BYD sales, production and expansion but the shares seem to be very static. In the other hand Tesla shares have been very volatile. Why have we not seen BYD shares attract the attention and movement we have seen with Tesla? I fully expected BYD shares to rise in line with their success but little is happening. Maybe Sam could shed some light on this or other investors out there who know more about this than I do. Perhaps I should have been all in in Tesla rather than BYD.
Political risk. You don’t own Chinese stocks, only indirectly through Hong Kong exchange. Also, CCP can at any moment sack the CEO and restructure BYD if they feel they grow too big and powerful.
I would say BYD rise is more phenomenal than Tesla. They are expanding their footprint and the number of new models on offer are insane. They are already in Japan, Jordan, Mexico, UAE, South Africa, Nepal and small countries Tesla not selling yet. They already have U8 and U9 almost ready. Lighting quick in expansion in every way! Also if 40% of price of the car is battery then 40% of Tesla u buy is a BYD!
BYD has been here in Norway for several years, but their sales are decreasing. A total of about 3000 Tang has been sold, but only 200 this year. About 900 Atto, but only 200 this year. About 450 Han, but only 100 this year. The best selling Chinees car in Norway is Polestar . MG are also selling a lot more than BYD.
The average family car does not need swanky luxury; it needs to have child-proof everything, wipe-clean surfaces, reasonable comfort and range for the 'average family'. Once the kids have grown up and matured, buy a sportier model. (School-runs, grandma visits and shopping rarely need a 0-60 of 5 seconds). The now 'second hand' car will do a Stirling service for the not-so-well-off family.
I have great respect for China and the Chinese people. They come from a long history and tradition. The statements of Stella Lee makes me pleased and hopeful. Although, BYD and other Chinese manufacturers will never sell their products in the West at chinese prices due to tariffs and increased labor costs, they will be able to outgun the competition by around $5000 or €5000. Since Tesla is spearheading the EV price war globally, western consumers will be able to buy the future Tesla models at a continually reduced, more affordable prices. The Giga factories will be forced to rump up production to make available the full improved versions of their models much earlier than anticipated. One thing is for sure, ICE cars are dead and along with them the auto manufacturers that do not possess the ability to convert swiftly to the new standard are as good as dead, also. With SAFETY being my number one concern, I am, relatively, reassured that the Tesla System has been checked, rechecked and then checked again for the end product to be a mind resting vehicle for my family (…including my dogs😊) even with a chinese battery, as I live in Europe.
They also have a tradition of extreme racism and racial cleansing on other minorities. Wake the fuck up. They are enemies of the world. I am Chinese by ethnicity from Hong Kong.
Imagine what situation the US car manufacturing market would be in if Tesla didn’t exist or if they didn’t have Elon driving innovation and manufacturing capability
I look at the Fang Cheng Bao 5 and think it could sell even better. 680hp, over a foot of ground clearance, locking diffs, air suspension, 125 km of electric range to cover daily commuting, ~50% better fuel economy running on gas than comparable vehicles, premium interior... all for around the base price of a 4 door Wrangler or Bronco.

This is why Europe and America should worry about China. China loses low end manufacturing in shoes and furniture to Vietnam and India but replace it with auto manufacturing. And they supply almost all the parts of the auto which means China keeps all the profit and economics in country. Not like America where a car gets shipped 10x to Mexico and Canada to add various parts and pieces before final sale. Musk credits the Chinese with being smart and hard working. He never says that about America or Europe.
Outsourcing. The demise of manufacturing in the US brought along by purchasing agents and executives with masters degrees most of which couldn’t screw a nut in a bolt together
The main thing BYD needs to consider in whatever market they're competing with against Tesla is to HAVE A ROBUST PLAN FOR SERVICE. Getting a front bumper fixed or replaced for paint chips or damage is way too expensive, takes too long, and is only available in Tesla service centers or a very few "Certified" Body Shops. It's also overpriced, they need competition in the service market which Tesla intentionally makes it difficult to do.
Its a suburban runabout, commuter car, shopping trolley; ok so it doesn't play to the fantasies of us middle aged 'dad bod' guys, but ask your partner, and your mum - the answer will be different.
BYD is impressive.. I actually plan to get a BYD car myself. I think there's a reason why Warren Buffett is so bullish on this company rather than on Tesla. Tesla is overrated and it's not as great as people think. Tesla itself rely on BYD batteries just shows how BYD is a lot advance than Tesla.
Sam does not understand the importance of patents when becoming a global player. Nor does he seem to realise that BYD's rapid patent push is due to constant innovation that got BYD to number 3 global automaker in less than 20 years... from nothing. It's this and vertical integration that will place BYD ahead of Tesla in EV manufacture, except for software.
Doesn’t matter how many patents you have if they’re no good. Tesla has open patents they want to accelerate the world to sustainable transportation. BYD is trying to compete by not disclosing their patents.
@@ZeusBullyMax They can't "not disclose their patents." Patent filings are public records. And Tesla didn't open up their charger patents (i.e., give away their intellectual property rights) out of the goodness of their hearts. GM and Ford have concentrated on taking the begging bowl to Washington to get their hands on as much taxpayer money as possible. 27% import duty into the USA, but the Chinese have become so efficient that even those levels of subsidies are not enough. The only reason BYD doesn’t sell cars in the US is the 27.5% import tariff on Chinese vehicles that puts them at a pricing handicap. Mexicans, Europeans, and Asians can buy cheap ($15-30k) EVs and Americans can’t. Land of the free. 😂
1 billion in profit last quarter is lower than what I expected since BYD produced everything in-house. Toyota’s profit last quarter was 7.8 billions even higher than Tesla
People sometimes forget to look at the numbers and facts. Toyota sells many cars and they are profitable. And still at the same time, Tesla can sell great EV cars. But many YTer and media are trying to make us believe and create conflicts between us.
BYD's automotive gross profit is higher than Tesla, at the top of the industry. But BYD R&D spend is also at the top of the industry. And they have no debt. And they have always turned a profit for every quarter on record. And, despite the rhetoric, they also pay more in taxes, get less in subsides and have relatively little in regulatory credit sales revenue.
@@nguyep4 Toyota has returned to making more profit per car than Tesla, but you have to remember that Toyota's cars are ICE or hybrids, and Tesla = 100% EV. Toyota's sales of ICE vehicles in the largest car marker, China - have COLLAPSED. Make Chinese manufacturers enter into partnership with IP transfer and manufacturing in America and Europe in order to get access to markets. Same as they required for access to their markets.
China doesn't require Tesla to do that. And if the U.S. starts doing policies like that with BYD, China can make things very uncomfortable for Tesla in China.
BYD specializes in taking over other companies manufacturing plants and retooling, to support fast growth. Nikola and Lucid being only 23 miles apart, makes them the ideal plants to scoop up when they both close by 2025.
If we are referring to the mass market for EVs, I totally feel BYD will dominate with their vertically integrated business structure which are also successful on stand-alone basis.

No mather, they will be number one in the world soon and the US is going to follow the rest of the world or stay behind. The international trade relations are changing fast and the western countries would be better off getting their act together if they care to keep pace and retain some part of the markets. It is particularly the case for Europe in general as they are under the control of the US from which they need to escape to survive.
can't wait till chinese EVs hit 80pc of their home market, and then they're forced to export at huge volumes to stay afloat. Then the rest of the world will follow suit and go to 80pc EVs per annum in short order.
Seriously the BYD Seal interior is cheap and poorly designed I don’t know what the hype’s about. BYD are also expensive in the UK and as an unknown I would not buy a care that’s priced similarly to European EVs from mainstream manufacturers that have a track record on service & warranties as well as known residual values. You must have shares in the company.
If batteries are getting so cheap why are the 40 pct of the price I quote your own estimate of 85 dollars per kw so battery should be 5 grand even with 30 pct Proffitt it should be 6,500 so why are the cars 45k?
Ban BYD in US market will not benefit US at all, but it is a hard decision to do. But that not only limited to EV's, it is about future Al and AI ( all intelligent) EV is only part of the big picture, Tesla's leading position will quickly fading away if left behind. China determined to go ahead with its own system, hardware, software, network, AI, connect everything together. To follow or not, is the question.
Let me put it like this. "Second place will need a Telescope to see us!"-Elon Musk CEO of the best company in the world which will soon make byd know its place. Lapdog to Tesla 💪🏻💪🏻
So what are the sales figures for BYD in Europe and Australia? Are they in the top spots month after month. No. Is BYD ever going to dominate the international marketplace? Very possible. Are they going to dominate the North American market? Absolutely not (too politically hostile.) Ford has the right approach by purchasing the BYD battery patent and producing batteries domestically.
Forget about the North American market.. The Western country will have a politically hostile to it. I don't think BYD is going to dominates the international marketplace because Western countries is going to be hostile to it. Only Tesla is get a free ride and only when Tesla build factories their. Like the Japanese, BYD need to start building factories in those Western countries if they want to dominate international market.
A Chinese company as big as BYD would have mamny strings attached to the CCP which is meticulously managed by Xi Ping. This renders BYD as a political force subsject to Xi Ping's wishes. This could lead anywhere. But at the moment China is putting a big effort into securing "trading partners".
BYD isn't above politics and will never be able to enter the US market, will face pressure in Europe too, but it also doesn't matter since China can reciprocate against Tesla or VW and instantly win due to it's large auto market. End of the day China's goal is to dominate the auto industry, not just being #1, and domination is being #1 while still holding the reciprocation card.
Small correction: BYD started as a battery maker in 1996. In 2003 it started making electric trucks and buses. BYD entered the car market in 2008.

BYD never beats Huawei on the high end segment. The hottest car right now in China is Avatar 11 and Wenjie M7 due to its FSD capability. Even Tesla is nowhere close. The sanctions only made Huawei ever stronger. I won't be surprised Huawei makes their own lithography machines to bypass ASML.
BYD needs to be allowed to sell in the US, if for no other reason than to send a WAKE UP!!! call to the US automakers. Complacency breeds mediocrity.

Any one of the following is what we are talking about here ; Greed , laziness, pride, etc., are the causes of why big auto is reaping their "comeuppance ". I would be interested if you could expound on how non-Chinese people who make cars are 'lazy'. In my experience, the laziest people are preachers.
I agree with Jays' closing comment-- An electrick motor home-NOW thats a game changer
When you actually own, drive and understand the systems, BYDs are brilliant. Easily match and often exceed Tesla in most respects. I feel qualified to comment as we one one of each.

Yeah BYDs rise is about as incredible as Teslas. Amazing.

The main thing BYD needs to consider in whatever market they're competing with against Tesla is to HAVE A ROBUST PLAN FOR SERVICE.
