What do the Iterations mean in Jurassic Park?

They look like propellers, they have quotes by Malcolm by them, and they seem to break up the novel into eight pieces - but what are the Iterations and what do they mean?
I take a stab at answering what they are, where they come from, and what they mean for the the park, in this video.

Thanks for commenting! Yes, this book begs to be re-read - and the Iterations are definitely provocative. I like to think that the "Configurations" in The Lost World are similar, as Crichton appears to use them in a similar way - but there's in fact even less evidence in that book to make sense of it.
