    I honestly believe Jurassic Park: San Diego is a little inhumane as I feel the Safari concept of the Isla Nublar attraction is not only more exciting, but beneficial for the Dinosaurs as they still had an entire Island to roam.
    In the San Diego attraction, they’re just locked away in pens, with barely any space and are constantly surrounded by tourists, further building their stress. If JW Evolution has told us anything, it’s that Dinosaurs hate being held in enclosures

    As a native San Diegan I have a realistic-ish theory as to why Jurassic Park San Diego was shutdown and moved to Isla Nublar. The book mentioned that Hammond and InGen would have more autonomy and not be bound by strict laws of the government, Costa Rica or the United States. San Diego is a lot like its own unique place but its still bound to the laws of America and is also a military city (right next to downtown is the Navy and Marine bases, two of many) so Hammond would have to have dealt with that in San Diego.
    But I think the big reason operation moved was simple: space. California is big sure but the inner city is very contained and its very hilly to boot. The San Diego zoo for instance is a huge zoo and has space for its animals but even today they face the problem of having enough room. Their enclosures are smaller and literally atop of hills and constrained to those limits of San Diego. Theres also a statement by Hammond about “building in Orlando” so he had different locations in mind. I think he chose to move operations not just for political reasons but because practically he could make Jurassic Park however he likes and with enough space for his dinosaurs. By the coast where a lot of development is in San Diego (and where the Zoo and SeaWorld are) there just is not enough room for dinosaurs to roam and mentally be okay. Thats why Isla Nublar makes a lot more sense.

    • @JurassicLion2049

      Oh god and also comic con! Like thats another big major world attraction. They mention the chargers footba team in the movie but the chargers have always fucking sucked. Comic con meanwhile is where the real money is at.

    • @rickyhyppa7960
      @rickyhyppa7960 6 років тому +4

      Also, Isla Nublar is a lot safer at the off chance that the dinosaurs escape, they are contained to the island.

      I feel like the political issue of having a zoo of natural history's equivalent of dragons next to a heavily populated city was more of an issue. I remember some of my cousins who went to elementary schools in the hills had lockdowns due to cougars wandering onto their campus. Imagine the upheaval at a school board meeting after something like a velociraptor gets out. As someone who worked at a zoo, it's a matter of WHEN an animal gets out rather than IF.

    • @Princess_Celestia_
      @Princess_Celestia_ Рік тому

      "The book mentioned"
      That's the book, not the movie. The vast differences in the lore between these two sources make them incompatible with each other.
      "Hammond and InGen would have more autonomy and not be bound by strict laws of the government, Costa Rica or the United States."
      Yes and no. Isla Numbla still fell under Costa Rican law, even if InGen bought the island 100%, it would still be territorial property of Costa Rica and would still be under Costa Rican law. InGen chose Costa Rica because the laws where... laxer one might say. Long story short, in exchange for money and having InGen transfer some of their gene sequencers and super computers to Costa Rican territory, Costa Rican authorities where more than happy to look the other way on a lot of the s**t InGen was doing. If we go by the book lore. Movie lore doesn't mention any of this, just that Hammond leased an island from the Costa Rican government. So it would still, in movie lore, fall under Costa Rican laws.
      "so Hammond would have to have dealt with that in San Diego."
      Only if things failed and at the time, Hammond was 100% confident nothing would go wrong. His only real concern was dinosaurs escaping.
      As we learned from Jurassic World: Evolution, you can build the perfect paddocks where all the dinosaurs are 100% content, and then a storm blows in and the Rex goes on a rampage and busts out. Or some disgruntled employees sabotage the park like petulant little children. Or in reality, Rexy just decides one day to have ago at the odd little hairless apes hanging around the other side of the fence. No joke, there's not a zoo in existence that hasn't had an animal escape. Hell, for that matter, there's not a farmer alive or dead that hasn't had at least 1 domesticated cow get out of the fenced in pasture. It happens to the best of them. Hammond knew this so he chose to give up on San Diego and instead invest on a site soooo far out into the ocean that even if a dino escaped it's paddock, it would be able to make it to the mainland without drowning.

      You know, if you mix things in with the Jurassic Time excerpts, what if the plan was shifted to the "grander" option post cloning of a raptor on Sorna? We know the cloning started at Lockwoods estate with a trike, so what if the later production kind of made him realize that they needed space to up security there.

    • @chimerasuchus
      @chimerasuchus 6 років тому

      In the Lost World, it had only been abandoned for a few years. By the time of JW3, it would have been abandoned by at least a quarter century, assuming it wasn't demolished or used to make a normal zoo.

    • @AzraelThanatos
      @AzraelThanatos 6 років тому

      If it was the pit style one in the artwork, then it wouldn't take that long to bring it up to a workable level for the dinosaurs available. And that's if it was abandoned entirely.
      Sure, you aren't going to have the nicely designed exhibits in the end, but a secure holding facility for animals...

    To be real with you I always had a problem with this and can see why John got rid of it, it was freaking crazy from these concepts art alone and seeing the park itself there are so many factors that spell out trouble, one being dinosaurs escaping on the mainland, second being how small these inclosers are, these animals would crap in these places. Not only that animal rights group for how they were being treated and a butt load of paperwork. The one on the island seems more logical as you had more open spaces to give your animals to the illusion of them being able to walks where ever they wanted.

      DenotheFreak even something small such as a Gallimimus would require kilometres worth of land to freely roam. With large animals the waste clean up would be constant as well. imagine the logistic issues of a park combined with the constant need of cleaning animal waste. if there's even a slight schedule hiccup a raptor could become infected with Dysentry or Cholera.

      I bet thats why the park moved. Although they could have put Jurassic Park like in east San Diego (like how in real life San Diego Zoo has the wildanimal park in east San Diego county) it was probably for capitalistic reasons they didnt do that. For one thing east SD is rural and full of racists who dont like wildlife as much whereas the coast is where you have higher population and businesses. Its also where youve got other attractions like seaworld, the zoo, wild animal park, downtown, and the comic con once a year. Jurassic Park san diego would bank off of that and really conveniently how the airport and port of san diego are literally right next to it all (the airport is like right in the middle and not a far distance so tourists in theory could land and then take a ten minute drive to JP San Diego if it was a thing).

      Oh yeah the novel mentioned Hammond had plans for Jurassic Park Europe in the Azores (island chain off the coast of Africa in the Atlantic ocean) and Jurassic Park Asia or Japan somewhere in the south Pacific. The latter was important because Jurassic Parks key investors were Japanese and InGen wanted to tap into the Japanese tourism industry (also at the time Crichton wrote the novel there was economic tension between Japan and America but he acknowledged Japan was prospering with large corporations that extended into America like Sony or auto companies. The Japanese investors of InGen reflect that idea).
      Personally while I love the Jurassic World movies I think wed have gotten a better ending in Fallen Kingdom if we had Jurassic World: Europe and Jurassic World: Asia exist and then those parks saw their dinosaurs escape. It would have felt even more like the worlds old human kingdom fell and became Jurassic World.

    I feel like the JP: The Lost World deserves it own spin off series. This could include events happening on Isla Sorna between The San Diego incident, illegal cloning of Spinosaur, and the ultimate demise of Isla Sorna in general.

    0:57 I assume you mean the real daughter, since that's going to confuse people as to the timeline when it happened. My assumption is that during this time Lockwood's actual daughter died and the subject of human cloning was brought up which cause Hammond to split with Lockwood. The actual cloning came later after the events of the first Nublar incident and maybe even TLW. I know is a whole different subject but this one of those events that is confusing people and bringing up a whole bag of debates, bigger than Claire's shoes.

    You have to admire the temerity of The Lost World to not only feature its concept art as set dressing, like with the RVs, but to pass off a VFX miniature as in-universe concept art.

    I don't know if this is canonically true, but in LEGO game, Peter Ludlow mentioned some of his attractions for the park:
    1. Pachycephalosaurus Petting Zoo: Basically a petting zoo filled with these creatures. They compared them to goats, even though they are totally different thing.
    2. Brachiosaurus Slide: They wanted to have Brachiosaurus themed slide, except they LITERALLY used Brachiosaurus as slides thanks to their long necks.
    3. Triceratops Ring Toss: A ring toss game with added difficulty, as they have to toss the ring into a Triceratops horn which would constantly move.
    4. Ghost Train: A haunted house attraction filled with LIVE Velociraptors. They said that they would muzzle them or trim their toenails
    The problem with the attraction is, they treated the dinosaurs as an amusement park property rather than actual animals. And this can be dangerous to both humans and dinosaurs. Possible problems are:
    1. Pachycephalosaurus can accidentally headbutt somebody or the other Pachys. They can be territorial, which increases the chance of damage to the guests
    2. Brachiosaurus's neck is very weak. And not to mention Peter Ludlow mentioned that they would lose 1 guest every 1 thousand, which is somehow safe for them.
    3. Triceratops would have such a small space, considering how big this guy can be. Not to mention, this would be a scam to the guest as it's nearly impossible to throw a ring at this guy's horns,
    4. This ride would be fun for everyone except Velociraptor. They have to muzzle them, which would be very uncomfortable to them, especially since they are wild raptors. They also considered to trim their toenails, but this would be painful to them as their claw was made out of bone instead of keratin.

    Some of the layouts look interesting, and of course the arena as the center piece is awesome. Although, if JP San Diego did work out, they'd sure need much more space to let the dinosaurs walk around, especially the giants like T. rex and Brachiosaurus.

    I thought it was abandoned due to being too dangerous. I feel like that was everything was set up on the islands. They are bigger. It's better for the dinosaurs ' overall health. And that it would keep people from being injured as well as the animals. Dinosaurs do not live in cities. They are just to big. I think the San Diego Jurassic Park Zoo would end far more tragically than the t Rex rampaging through the city

    Hey Klayton, I have an idea you might be interested in. Follow along.
    Jurassic World was the realization of John Hammond's dreams of a dinosaur theme park where people could experience these legendary creatures up close like never before. Unfortunately this dream came crashing to reality when the Indominus Rex escaped it's paddock, causing mayhem and forcing Jurassic World to close it's doors. What happened afterwards is history, but my question is....
    What if Jurassic World never closed?
    What if the 2015 incident never occurred, either by way of the park never going through with the Indominus project, or they do and the hybrid either dies young or is held long enough for it's paddock to be finished and for the monster to be kept under control? How would a still open JW respond when Mount Sibo's eruption? Would there still be internal corruption that would have interfered?
    I'd like to get your take on this.
    Thank you, and have a good evening.

    I was always under the impression that Jurassic Park: San Diego was designed to be some throw away thing. Like a design template or a prototype. The facility itself was too small in scope to handle one animal, much less a dozen or so. So I couldn’t picture Ingen placing a bunch of animals inside a building that wasn’t that much bigger than a football stadium or a large concert hall. It just didn’t seem plausible enough. The second issue I have with it is comfort. Jurassic Park: San Diego is more akin to a dinosaur kennel and far more alien to the island sanctuary that these animals are used to. When you put a bunch of very large, migratory animals in tiny little enclosures like this one, the first instinct they’re going to have is the desire to break out. These animals have a territorial range of thousands of miles, not a 60 x 80 foot pen, so yeah more space is obviously needed.

    As a San Diego resident I'm really curious where Jurassic Park San Diego would've gone, or if the writers even thought about it in that much detail. From the movie/concept art it almost looks like it's on the site of the former Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley, but that wouldn't make sense given the movie itself acknowledged the San Diego Chargers who still actively played there. Downtown isn't flat like what we saw in the movie, nor is there anywhere near downtown with that much open space. They mention it being near a waterfront facility, but most coastal spots don't have large open spaces nearby either. Half the city is and was occupied by military bases like the Top Gun school, which would presumably be a no-go, and most of the rest of the city was already built up by the 90's. That pretty much leaves north county and Santee, but both of those are pretty far away from the core of the city or the water.

    Thinking about it they could have still used it as a big promotional showing for the Island. Like a preview for people. "Think this is cool, go check out the island!" I could see them doing a rotating thing where they ship some dinosaurs over for a month to show off to the public who can't afford t go to the island.
