Hey everyone. My name is Nicholas and I make videos most about my experiences with minimalism, frugal living, tech, and things of that nature 🌱. So if that sounds good to you consider subscribing and I'll see you in the next one ✏️
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the King of awkward silence! Great video as always sir!
Thank you kindly
That pause at the beginning is the only real intimacy I get these days. Thank you, sir.
😂😂
🫂
I enjoy the lofi and just zone out for a second. lol.
1. Creative courses
2. Anything bigger than what I need
3. Alcohol
4. Anything with large graphics/logos
5. Meaningless decorations
6. Smartwatches
Thank you bro for breaking down the video
In addition to what you said about smartwatches, I decided not to get one because I feel like it would take away from developing my natural intelligence/intuition in relation to sleep, exercise, and anything else I might be inclined to 'monitor'. I appreciate your insights and tips.
Your videos inspired me to live a minimalist and frugal lifestyle during my college years. Thank you!
I'm so glad!!
Another amazing and inspiring list!
I have an example of “bigger than what you need” in the smallest way.
I have been wanting a Kindle for a while. Recently, that want has finally gone away after discovering I can download the app on my phone and read as I please from something I already have. I realized this saved me all the additional costs that would come with getting, storing, and maintaining the kindle. I now look at every single thing this way.
Have a great day and again, wonderful video!🎉
Well said as always. And the kindle app is great, thanks Haylea!
Great nuance here. I love when minimalist UA-camrs are honest and give that nuance (like not needing a smartwatch but liking a Nintendo Switch, even though both are nonessential tech). For me, a smartwatch is essential because I need to measure my heart rate during workouts, as I have medical problems that impact my heart rate and I have to have it live-measured so I can adjust accordingly. But if you don't have that need, then you may not need the watch. Similarly, I don't need a video game console because I don't like gaming. But if you do and that adds value to your life, there's nothing wrong with having it.
Exactly. To each their own ☝🏻
Fluffy and purring decoration is the best decoration. 😸❤
I think so too!
Nick has mastered the ability of standing so incredibly still…
Practice..
100% agree on the smart watch. I switched to automatic watches several years ago and will never look back. There is a great sense of satisfaction to not have to rely on a battery to get what I need (i.e. the time). I do have an Apple watch but only use it to measure health metrics when exercising and sometimes to measure sleep patterns.
I can see so many improvements in your new videos Nicholas, keep it up man! Love your videos!
Thanks so much!!
The PAUSE is getting longer and longer… AND I AM HERE FOR IT! 😂😂😂
Great list. I appreciate that these are personal rather than generic. And thank you for not shilling a course or patreon. I'm cool with having a way to support a creator I enjoy, but they always go so hard on pushing them.
Exactly
The one with the alcohol is something I heard from my friends so many times. They asked me why I'm able to live with just a part time job and have a good time, enough food when they on the other hand working full time and don't have enough money at the end of the month.
Cigarettes, alcohol is expensive af, I see it when I'm in the grocery store. Since I've never drank or consumed cigarettes I saved so much money. Combine it with a minimalism lifestyle and it seems to save money that other people seeking
The only one thing that I probably quite disagree with is the smartwatch, but this is just my personal opinion. I need a smartwatch to track my running mileage, progress, and lots of my training. But battery life is essential; that's why the Apple Watch doesn’t suit me; beside, I will use my smartwatch for a long time. So, my smartwatch is kind of an investment for my health, so yeah.
To each their own! Nothing wrong with that at all
I definetly agree with you on the courses, alcohol, and smartwatches and I like your idea of using your wallpaper to decorate a bit
Thank you for sharing this vid. Watching from The Philippines. ❤❤
Love your honest and down-to-earth approach-it's refreshing to see someone who values sharing knowledge over selling it!
Glad you enjoy it!
I think where I struggle is the reduction step. A lot of the clutter isn’t recyclable or reusable.
I do have nine photo frames in a hutch in my small space. Family photos. One way of decorating, to your point of changing your screensaver, I change out my photos from a. Small collection of pics of my family during past holidays. Tip from a Minimalist near 50 that has adult children and large family.
I have been away from your videos for a bit. I just watched this and i realize how much i have missed them. It’s amazing how much better and calmer I feel after watching this. Thank you! I love your description of the Apple Watch. "They're neat." Yup, that pretty much says it all. I had the first generation Apple Watch. I liked it at first but quickly realized it was overkill for me. I sold it and bought an inexpensive fitness tracker and never looked back.
Totally get it man, sometimes I step away from channels I usually watch from time to time. Welcome back and well said!
Your insights are so relevant and neatly curated. Thanks
Glad you think so!
lol love the pause every time. Great video! I liked that you broke each point down.
I appreciate it!
After 5 years using apple watch series 4, which was great. I choose new one for I hope next 5 or more years. Thank you for video.
Thank you Nicholas!
I could never agree more on Plain clothes without graphics or massive branding
Realised I’ve always lived like this! Love your videos. I’ve been following you since the time you had less than 10k followers. Soooo happy to see your growth ❤
Thanks for sticking around!!
Hi Nick, Hope you and your loved ones are okay after Helene. My family in FL are recovering and prepping for Milton. Be safe and well.
Thanks so much! Preparing for the next one now 😅
Surely books are clutter? When you could just put it all on a kindle?
I had one of those read it then exchanged it for something else to read at the bookstore.
I hope the pauses at the start continue for the rest of time hahaha
I totally agree with your point on creator courses. Most of it comes down to practice, however, if you have a course, and it's a good offer, I'd consider getting it, for example if you were teaching me how to edit in a certain way, or if you are providing with a skill that I lack. In the end, I know it's your job, and I'd be interested in helping you out as a viewer.
A lot of it indeed comes down to doing good research, and knowing what to grab and what not to, but in the end, university is the same, all information is currently available for free.. You can even buy the books sit down and learn for yourself!
Fair enough, thanks Matias!
Since you brought up the topic of watches, I think I have a suggestion for anyone with minimalist mindset (or appreciates the aesthetic). A Casio MTP V002L, with the black background and big numerical. I hope anyone looking for a reliable timeless looking watch (and only analog they will need in a long time) finds this useful.
Also, do make more parts of this please.
Good choice, love Casio.
For me creator courses are mostly there for the roadmap, learning a whole new thing with no roadmap can be confusing and a course that holds your hand can really solve that
Great video as always. I'm in the same place as you, except for the smartwatch. I've had a Samsung smartband for a few years now. It's lightweight, with a battery that lasts almost 3 weeks when I use it. It's helped me a lot with my addiction to cheap dopamine like social media and distractions. I set it up so that I only get notifications from specific apps and people. Nowadays I spend very little time on my phone, even the ringtone and vibration are disabled lol.
The good thing is that since I only use it for this purpose, I don't feel the slightest need to keep upgrading to better models or something expensive. As long as this one works, I'll keep using it.
Well said mate.
Great video. I see a lot of humor in your videos but you never smile or laugh. Can I ask what’s up with that?
Men your videos have inspired me a lot, please keep doing them...!!!
A simple rule to follow for this video on purchases: anything that isn't groceries or travel, interrogate prior to purchasing. This is a mental habit that is associated to visiting websites or being around stores with the purpose of preventing unnecessary spending. Another good rule for me is, the purchase has to fit within one of my storage accessories (that is one large suitcase and one small suitcase). Can it fit into one of my two suitcases? Can it fit into my organising accessory (e.g. tech pouch)? This rule points at a storage limitation which effectively acts as a razor to cut off unnecessary purchases. I originally developed this rule about seven years ago after travelling for an extended period of time (about a year). If you view life as one long trip similar to that trip I took, you became very mindful of the items you carry along. In short:
- Rule A: Examine the value of the item prior to purchasing
- Rule B: Visualise its storage location and capacity prior to purchasing
@@whatsyourname9581 Great point! A wishlist as a tool to extend the duration of purchases toward a macro - rather than an impulsive - level certainly helps reduce purchases and make their time more appropriate. I like how you mentioned children. I'm going to employ this tactic somewhere in the future. Me: I employ this wishlist concept a task list in an app specifically named 'Purchases'. Every morning I check this list for a few seconds to determine a) can I get rid of this desire for the purchase?; b) can I make this purchase now?'. Surprisingly, most of the items I've added to this list have been deleted over time. As of today, I only have one major item. Hope your next read is a great one!
Any reason why you shelf your books with the title towards the wall?
I enjoy wearing my Apple Watch as a way to stay away from my actual phone. After spending a little time setting it up, I was able to curate only the most important notifications I would need to see. Using the watch keeps me away from mindless scrolling or playing games when I should be working.
Well said 🤙🏻
i dont do video editing while doing a million other computer things at the same time so a 13" macbook air M1 is way enough for me for as long as i can make it last. only had 3 laptops total since 2007, only reason i had bought a second one was because my first one got stolen, lol yay that was fun. and then that second one lasted 10 years before it started getting so glitchy n slow it was dysfunctional
Hey that’s great. I’m editing on almost the exact same MacBook.
I've been heavily debating just not having a smartwatch anymore myself. I realized one of the reasons I was wanting to do away with it was because I had a ton of notifications from my phone being mirrored to the watch. It got to where a lot of the time I would just leave the watch on the charger for days at a time because I just didn't want my wrist vibrating with notifications when I'm trying to focus on what I was doing. More often than not these were notifications that I just did not care about. Including random work Teams notifications, ha.
Dialing back what shows up on my Apple Watch made me like having it again.
Good point.
I just bought a 2024 Toyota Rav 4 AWD from the dealer in replacement of a 2010 Chevy Colorado bought used. The Toyota is a good size and does a little of everything. Trucks are nice to have due to its convenience, but if you don’t use it like a truck often enough then it isn’t worth having. I tend to stay away from graphic clothing. I’ll only wear clothing with a badge size design and wear a sports team hat during the game event.
Good to know for when the day comes!! How’re you liking it? I’ll only ever drive Toyota
@@NicholasGarofola I bounced around with different brands and styles. I’m really enjoying my RAV4. I’m already feeling the great mpg on it while living in CA. It’s my first brand new vehicle and SUV. The AWD is a little over kill but worth it if I’m in a pinch. There’s enough room to do small diy tasks while still being adventurous. The draw back for some owners may be loading it up with a lot of cargo and people. More cargo can lead to less passengers. A compact SUV like the RAV4 can be perfect for a solo traveler.
I was already buying other stuff for it the day I got the car, like a full sun shade kit that covers all the windows.
You provide quality content…thank you. I have been declutterring for two years and strive for as much minimalism as I can. The good news is that impulse buying has declined the bad news is realizing how much money was wasted from past impulse purchases. Keep the content flowing.
Why do you place your books backward on the shelf?
lol. Love the stop and stare at the camera waiting for us to hit the subscribe button. That’s my kind of humor. 😂
🙌🏻
Hello! Can you make a video about latest equipment do you have right now like cameras etc
The Apple Watch Ultra is basically my "Dumb Phone". because I can basically leave my phone at home or in the car. And if I really need a phone for some reason, someone around me probably has one. But that situation has never come up
I agree. I regularly leave my iPhone at home and just go out with the AW Ultra. I’d still like to just wear a regular dumb watch again, but the Apple Watch being my “dumb phone” and health/fitness tracker is more than enough reason to justify keeping it.
@@brian_voll I originally got mine to celebrate hitting my weight goals, and now I'm using it to fill my attention / peace goals.
The 2nd one i rly agree on. I wanted good headphones so i kinda went in to the rabit hole of audio file and wasted so much time untill 1 person just said comparing sundara to x2hr:
U will get 85% with x2hr so is it worth it to spend 3x the money on sundara ?
Also learning eq could just make that diffrence down to 5%.
It wasnt cheap saddly but i learned my lesson to get as much as i need.
I need to know where you got that desk lamp...
It's this:
lumecube.com/products/edge-light-2-0-white-led-desk-lamp
Love the cat cameos!
i totally agree on the course topic
Hey, you got a new dw9052 gshock!!!. The old one was black and red letters.
Had this one for about 8 years actually! But I’ve seen the one you’re mentioning, I think they’re around the same age
Very good content man, love it! That pase hahah
Appreciate it!
@@NicholasGarofola ooops, wanted to say "that pause" hahaha Nicholas, do you still skateboard? longtime no see the skating side, have a great week man, by the way, where are you based? It could be cold to have a QandA video of somekind
Greetings from SpaiN
coursera might be the only platform im okay with, especially if one struggles with being held accountable for consistency
To each their own!
I like my smartwatch (Apple Watch Ultra 2) because then I don't need to carry wallet with me. I can pay pretty much everywhere just with a watch.
Sounds convenient, wish that were the case here
"i'll spare you the boring obvious ones that have been in dozens of videos" as he zooms in on the backwards facing books on the shelf. good one 😉
Man, those older compact Tacomas were awesome!
Hi Nicholas! Great Video. Just wanted to know the Monitor your using? LG.....?? Please..... 😀
I can't find the exact model but I know it was discontinued.. LG 4k Ultrafine something like this..
I think NIcholas is practicing dead staring in front of camera ;)
Totally agree with buying something with large graphics / logos; and meaningless decorations. I'd rather have an empty wall and let my imagination decorate it, as I please.
Your perspective on Alcohol (3:58) is 👌
🙌🏻
i like this pseudo-long-eye-contact i can engage in at the beginning of your vids now. almost feels like real human interaction without having to leave my introvert bubble. lulz 🙃❤
😂 that’s awesome, I understand
Where you’d get the pencil holder from?
I have recently found a job I love and have been contemplating buying a smart watch. My job is both in and outdoors. Sometimes it’s a bit much carrying supplies plus my phone out there. I think this is the safer option as opposed to breaking my phone while dropping it. I want it for phone purposes, not fitness purposes. Thoughts anyone?
Thanks
Thanks so much!!
Overpriced phones and gadgets, unnecessary furnitures, ott subscription, trending clothes and shoes, Overpriced coffee, luxury travel ticket and hotels and much more show-off stuffs to impress people
overpriced phones (for me anyway), arent about showing off. I play more games on my phone than I do on my PC or consoles, so I like a high specced phone.
Man make a video on your minimal iPhone setup based on ios 18
What is the watch you're wearing right I know it's a Gshock but I don't know what is the model
This exact one

@@NicholasGarofola Thanks for sharing the link Nicholas 😄
I'd have to disagree with your first point. Even though most things can be learnt free/online, getting courses help fast-track that process, and it often involves a methodology that teaches you everything you would need to know without missing out on stuff. I agree, some courses are not worth it at all, but there are some really big creators who have made decent courses, and its not just for extra revenue. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks!! All good
YES the size of cars!!
yup!
anyone find those merino wool shirts like Proof give you a lot of static shock in the winter?
It’s never cold here so I couldn’t tell you 😅
An apple user giving tips on things not to buy! :)
id consider myself a minimalist/essentialist and consider myself to be cheap yet you'll never catch me buying some cheap android phone lol. Before I switched to apple I always had the latest and greatest Samsung phone 5 years and it always felt buggy, laggy, and UI always felt old after just a couple months. Would rather spend my money on a quality product then fuss around with weird customization gimmicks on an android. I just want my phone to work and do something well and reliably. Plus IM supporting an American company whereas Samsung is South Korean
☝🏻
Loved the video.
PS : you sleeping ok bud 😅?
Thanks! And genetic issues.
the silence scares me
5:35 best part of the video
Bro broke eye contact for a second and I felt less anxious 😅
Broooo, the zone-out lasted for 34 seconds this time
how to invest with a frugal life? and minimalist
I'm not fan of Apple but I have to say that an iPad Mini is ALWAYS a good decision. 💪

Hi bro i am from India🇮🇳 big fan🎉❤️
Me too from India
@@GauravYadav-9166 hi bro nice to meet you
from which state???
I swear to god he stared into my soul
Hey Nick, cool video! A while back, you mentioned you’d be switching things up on the channel and bringing in some fresh content. From what I can tell, it’s been pretty much the same videos and topics lately. Are you still planning on dropping something new?
That's the plan, when I come up with ideas for that 😅 open to suggestions
Sorry for breaking your subscribe button. I'll try and get it fixed, promise!
I'm scared
New viewers, make sure you catch up on the like/subscribe pause lore
We need a wiki page
Should've paused longer for the 8-minute mark 😂
🤔
Heads up! There is someone replying to a lot of my comments on your videos claiming to be you and asking me to text them to make all of my wildest dreams come true. Their name is “Nicholas Garofola-1” or “Nicholas Garofola” (but no verified tag).
Blocked that account, thanks!

You need Linux in your life. You will suffer. You will cry. You will rage. But also, you will be free.
A joust 😂😂
Pls stop doing that pause in the beginning. I am here to learn something, and I know you will value my time.
😂.. It's just his way to show condolence
The pause and the “funny” subscribe thing feels like a trap that you’ve got yourself into and don’t know how to end … will you lose viewers if you stop doing it? The answer is no - it’s the content that matters not the gimmicky and now irritating intro
Thank you
" Oftentimes" is bigger than what you need. Why have Americans started using this in the recent past? Why?
isn't that severe depression ?
