Michael Owen. Generational talent and truly blessed to have him as my boyhood hero! I even had a massive happy 30th birthday wish from him. He made me fall in love with Liverpool. What a time.

Anyway, he wasn't half the player he was in 2001 & didn't do well in Spain. He was shipped to Newcastle & then chose to betray us even further when he pulled on a Scumchester Utd shirt. Two good sides. Seeing Owen and Fowler playing together is great to see, both great goal scorers. I saw them in an earlier round when Liverpool played Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.
RIP Gerard Houllier. I was reliving this amazing season earlier on this year, the season I first got into supporting Liverpool. Great memories. And that Barry Davies commentary is sooo nostalgic!
Though it's not like he went to United at his peak. It was the end of his career, he just wanted to play for the best manager in the premier league. He would have never gone there directly from Liverpool. Injuries messed up his career.

Arsenal were by far the better team in this match, think most Liverpool fans would admit that. Then in 2005 Man Utd outplayed Arsenal but the Gunners lifted the cup, funny how it works out
I bloody love Owen for winning this game for us. In other news: In the 4th round Everton were trounced 3-0 at home by Tranmere and Man Yoo lost at home to West Ham 1-0. In the 5th round we beat Man Citehhh 4-2. Great times.
Lowkey observation. I always thought Cup finals in the Millenium Stadium were better than Cup finals in Wembley. The Wembley pitches had for the most part been terrible.
Good article in the Echo today about Owen's situation after leaving Liverpool and how he tried to come back several times. LFC then, when he first left, and when he wasn't brought back, were a mess and too stupid to get it done. He wasn't that badly injured before he went to Newcastle, and it was at a time when they would have entire teams on the injured list. That last chance at the end is a small indicator of Fowler after the injuries. I know he hadn't been playing much and had come off the bench here, so not entirely fair, but before the injuries there would have been no hesitation or question about what happens next - would either be bang straight in the back of the net or right across to the back post for Owen. Either result would have made this even more f-ing brilliant.
As a Spurs fan, I loved when Owen scored that 2nd goal, Arsenal fans were crying. I always admired Owen and he was one of my favourite players, I always wished we had him at Spurs. I remember when, Michael Owen ripped apart Argentina in the world Cup, destroyed Germany in their own ground and scored a hat-trick. Scored 2 goals in an FA Cup Final, against the famous back 5 of Arsenal. This was one of the most exciting young English players we have ever seen. The season he won the Ballon'Dor, he scored 31 goals, won the League Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Cup, Charity Shield and the UEFA Super Cup. Then to finish it off, he scored that famous hat-trick away at Germany, when England won 5-1. That is why he played for Real Madrid, Liverpool and Man Utd. He scored 16 Goals in his first season for Madrid, while he was mostly sub, the boy was a wonder kid. First English Player to win a Ballon D'Or since Kevin Keegan, 22 years ago at the time. Since Owen won it, no English player has won it. It wasn't even close, Owen beat Raul to the Ballon D'Or by a big 36 point margin. He was only 21, yet was up against some of the best players we have ever seen play the game. If Owen had stayed injury free, he would of scored a lot more goals. When he left Liverpool at the age of 24, he had already scored 158 Goals for them. That's how prolific and good he was. He is even 6th all time top scorer for England, with 40 goals in 89 games. He scored 4 at the World Cups he played in. Now compare it to say Rooney, he scored 53 goals in 120 games,. While only score one goal, at the World Cups he played in. So that shows at the young age he was, how unbelievable he was. If you had the first 7 years of Owen, in his last 7 years, he would of broke all records.

Arsenal fan here and still to this day this one hurts 😔. Remember we dominated Liverpool most of the game and had so many chances and didn’t take them 😮.
