Usually famous for FUZZ pedals, Beetronics have made a dual overdrive with two of the most famous "low gain" drives - the Klon Centaur and the Marshall Bluesbreaker. Sure, you can sound like John Mayer but don't worry, this bee in a box has the Beetronics twist and creates some REALLY great fuzzy drive tones too by stacking the pedals into each other and also having them in parallel.

Let me know, is it more than the sum of its parts?
Thanks for using our backing track Andy!
No, thank YOU! I played the whole flipping thing but had to chop it down 😂😂😂
@@TheGuitarGeek Id love to hear it. Maybe you could post it?
here it is @@wideyxyz2271 ua-cam.com/video/mijgF2sYU6s/v-deo.html
The Boss Angry Driver allows using a Boss Blues Driver and a JHS Angry Charlie in parallel.
Ahhh yeah!!! I have that pedal. I should have known that
That's the most colourful and useful 2-in-1 pedals I've seen since the Ibanez Jemini! Looking forward to that BTS from the Beetronics Hive!
Yeah man! So many colours. BTS was so much fun. It’s on its way!
Now I wanna bee
I bought the Overhive a few weeks ago and it is a pretty mellow pedal compared to other BTRNX stuff. I love it a lot. It sounds awesome right behind a fuzz face.
It's a really cool pedal with a lot of options. Great sounds!
Very different for them as you say mate! Love the sounds. Thanks for putting all those axes through it
No problem Andrew! 👍
I just got my Fatbee Monday! Third Beetronics pedal. This would bee a hard sell as I have both of these already.
Yes I must have this.
That is so pretty!
This pedal has 33 operating modes, and I want it just for its fuzz potential!
Thank you for being a maths genius 😀
@@TheGuitarGeek I developed a habit of calculating tonal options (within which knobs can be turned) after I invented and prototyped my electric-guitar circuit. The second guitar to have my invention gets into the thousands of tonal options because, honestly, I wanted to see how far I could push it for my own use: I nicknamed the concept "The Everlasting Gobsmacker", and the guitar is named Nimona for the titular character of the movie (a truly-excellent film, by the way).
it is a fantastic idea and the tooooone!!! dayum i sounds amazing imo !
Hell yes! Another hit from
The bees
the functionality reminds me of Boss + JHS collaboration pedal the "Angry Driver". there is a parallel mode there too and a mode of each circuits into the other as well as external foot switch option for more selection options between them in addition to the switch on the pedal itself. pretty neat features not to mention the sound..
Thats an impressive pedal. I prefered bluesbreaker side, but the fuzzy edge is great. It is easy to find a Texas blues sound.
I also think the bluesbreaker works better for me
That's why I have a MXR Duke of Tone.
The new studio is working really well Andy.
Thanks Big T
@@TheGuitarGeek in a magical universe where I could click my fingers and be in Austria I’d pop in and check it out in real life. That would be fun.
it really would have been more fair if you put the Beetronics Klon switch into the "full blend" when you did the comparison. With the switch in the first position like you had it, the two pedals are doing something completely different. The Klon sounds like it does largely because of the clean blend.
It's, very (go figure) Mothertone.
That baritone play around 8min sounded really good. A drummer and a leadguitar on that🤘
Yeah I wish I had more friends!
@@TheGuitarGeek lol, you're going to get swamped now. We are all your friends, lol.
I’ve enjoyed the Beetronics visual aesthetic, but I’m not a huge fan of fuzz. Nice to see them branching out. And I’m always a fan of parallel drives. FWIW, the Empress Multidrive might be the most interesting parallel drive pedal, but I think they’ve discontinued it.
That turned out to be a pretty versatile pedal
Andy,
Thanks so much for the very thorough, yet concise review! Well done! I noticed another video about this pedal in my feed and looked at it a bit, but it was much longer and I found it less informative than yours. About the pedal, it looks very versatile and useable but in direct comparisons to the "originals", I find the sound lacking. The openness you found from the original Blues Breaker and KT Klon are appealing to me.
So I'm not about to run out to buy the Wannabee. Still, your demo/review is great! It just led me to a different conclusion than what I expected.
Thank you Allan. Glad you stopped by and it is my pleasure to help you out.
it´s important to notice that when andy made the comparison, the klon side of wannabe was on the "no clean blend" position. it´s only the drive side of the klon - the original klon has the clean blend controlled together with the gain in a dual gang pot, so we made a tweak on this system to allow one get different textures from the Klon circuit, separating the control of the gain from the control of the clean blend. To have more "openness" on the wannabee in the lower gain positions, you need to use the toggle on the "mid clean blend" or "full clean blend" position....if you can, try one on a store :D
the relatioship of the toggle and the gain pot with the original klon dual gang pot is something like this:
when the gain is at minimum - full clean blend
when the gain is next to the center - mid clean blend
when the gain is max - no clean blend...
so the design idea in our take of the klon is that you can have different textures that you can´t do with the original klon, combining the clean blend separately from the gain pot control. If you have a chance to test, you´ll notice that with the gain from minium to center, the full clean blend and mid clean blend option will allow that bright crispy sound that kloners like!
@@Jackalberti Thanks for your comments on the Wannabee. Maybe Andy can work up another demo to show some of these points. As far as finding one in a local store, I'd say I'm SOL on that :D Usually, I can't tell the difference between overdrive pedals, so it was quite a surprise to me that I noticed something different.
Tempting I have a Dane tunnels and a keeley SPM tempting to replace two with one
nice pedal and tones mate!
im sure you met dave simpson...havent you??
Nooooooooo I just got a PoD express, and I've got a Boss katana mini on my birthday list (May) so no more peddles Andy for now!
You’re going to hate what’s coming next week then… 🤣🥰
5:06 is a VERY Jim Martin tone imo!
This solo album gets a bad rap but I love it - ua-cam.com/video/RlxvEaG1rYY/v-deo.htmlsi=ar6zOpy0Jnsc0Pj3
Ahhh THAT is who it sounds like. Thank you. I knew it sounded familiar but I couldn’t put my finger on it
i can't beelieve this is real. I need them to make a Bumble amp to go with and I'm sweet like honey 🐝
😂😂😂
Frustrated was my first reaction. You're in Europe, I'm in Europe. I subscribe hoping you'll promote OUR market. This product is aimed at Americans (like stuff promoted on that overwhelming body of American guitar youtubers) and is ONLY available to Europeans direct at some considerable surcharge.
It's cheaper to buy a Klone, AND a used Blues Driver, AND a small mixer ... by some distance right now.
Ah well, at least it provided an idea.
I am physically in Europe but this video is on the internet. Inter as in International.
A small google search will result in several European retailers stocking this pedal.
Instead of bitching about something here you could have done that and it would have taken less time or do you need everything done for you?
Regarding the individual pedals and mixer point. Firstly, a blues driver is not a blues breaker.
Secondly, it is cheaper to buy ingredients to make a meal myself but sometimes I like to go to a restaurant as it is more convenient and enjoyable.
How much?! Feels like a real luxury when you can get cheap and perfectly playable dual drives from the likes of Harley Benton (I have the Evil Twin which is a Fulltone OCD and a Tubescreamer). The tones here are good, but not $300 bucks worth. An excellent demo as usual though.
Yes the Harley Benton is cheaper but without the original circuit that was copied the Harley Benton would not exist. I am not saying cheap pedals are bad or evil but someone has to put the work in.
You look kinda fuzzy Andy.
Sure you fuzzed enough today? 😊
Always fuzzy…..
Run the wannabee bee-for your beetronics fuzz pedals to, figuratively, put some hairs on your fuzzy chest. 🐝🐝🐝
I think I’ve reached my hairy chest peak already but I shall begin testing tomorrow!
John Frusciante would love those sounds.
Let’s all ask him to try it 😇🙏
Soo its a dual overdrive? Mmm i do like stacking drives for a fully saturated sound… Juan who?
I only know Oscar. Must be a big family?
I’m excited about that toneking behind ya. Ooooooh weee thats pretty!
Stacking OR parallel. And yes Poo, the Tone King is FIRE!
@@TheGuitarGeek 🔥🤘🏽
It's just another useless and overpriced dual OD so called "boutique" pedal that you can find in any other mooer, nux or harley benton offer
it really isn't. Mooer or Harley Benton offer some great deals though.
Also, it is really obvious when you like your own comment... ;-)
@@TheGuitarGeek in case you wonder. I’m the one who like your comment 🤠
You are correct
@@ronaldmay1283 the difference between a 350$ pedal and a NUX Queen of tone that costs 1/3 of the price is all in the labour costs...components are practically the same. It's your choice if you want to fund USA workers or China ones. And yep I did not like my comment on purpouse...actually I could not care less...I dislike it now so everyone's happy
