Given it didnt even make the hot100, I say it is THE most underrated song ever. Her song (duet) from 1983, Baby Come to Me, hit #1. This song is better. By far.
I totally agree with u 500%. I always keep this song on my playlist. Her vocals were impeccable and flawless. Love the way the background vocals come in and the saxophone doesn’t drown out her heavenly voice.
Patti Austin nailed what has to be the ultimate lamentation song. To call it beautiful and haunting is a gross understatement. Gives me chills every time I hear it.
I've been looking for this song for years! I didn't know Patti Austin was the vocalist. Her beautiful singing and Mr. Watanabe's soulful sax make this a great, (yet sorrowful) love song.
My favorite Patti Austin recording- truly moving- I remember seeing the video- Sadao is great too- This song was written by Diane Warren- perhaps her best, too Thanks for posting this
When this song came out I was in NYC. I was struggling to get my life all together but unable to grasp it. This song was there to encourage me. Every time I hear this song, my emotion goes back to that time. I am sending a message to me, 30 years younger, to hold on for a rough ride but you are going to be ok.
Damn Straight! i thought i was the only person to hear that intricate sliding vocal! Patti is a true master! i was very blessed to meet this lady and she's as sweet as her voice! I will never forget that night!!!
...i love this song looking for Sadao Watanabe songs brought me here, I also love Patti Austin what a awesome song! I hope they are both doing great in June 2021 it's worth it to find more of his playing really brilliant sax artist! Lovely song takes me back
This song didnt even make the hot 100? This song must have been dedicated to the music listeners and purchases of that time. Idiots! This song is solid gold and a great song, one of the best ever!!!
After following Diane Warren's whole career, This ranks as one of my 5 favorite Diane Warren penned songs. This is where she is at her best... Great recording!
I am a retired former Marine Corps Sniper. I always believed that I was master of my emotions., my heart. But this song so passionately sung by Patti moves my heart like nothing else. I spent so much time away from the girl I loved that I lost her to another man. And as Patti Austin so eloquently put it..., even a fool would still be there holding you, any other fool but me.
Semper Fi Andy. I attended the scout sniper school when I was a young Marine in Okinawa in 1979. I stayed in the Corps for 8 years and this song when it came out hit me hard as well as It was during a time when i lost the person i loved more than anything. I thought I was a badass but that event reduced me to a such pain and sadness. Even to hear it now is extremely hard. USMC 1*7/-86 0311/
Every time I hear Patti Austin sing, I miss the little Facebook heart emoticon. I would put a heart on each and every video of hers. :) She stole my heart.
I simply love this song.I love singing along and relating the words to the relationships in my life..Sometimes I just freeze and tingle when I hear it on the radio..
I was just listening to a top 5 from March 24th, 1990 on the radio this morning. It reminded me of this song, which I was lucky to catch on a lite rock station here in the Phoenix area back then. I am lucky to have gotten this CD not too long afterwards. A great follow up to this song would be "Bodyguard" by the Bee Gees, also another lucky catch on the radio back then. By the way, the top 5 from March 24, 1990 was: 5. I Wish It Would Rain Down - Phil Collins 4. Roam - The B-52's 3. Escapade - Janet Jackson 2. Love WIl Lead You Back - Taylor Dayne 1. Black Velvet - Alannah Myles
I haven’t heard this in 30 years..It used to play on the soft rock channel all the time. What a good song! I hope that one day the man I love will realize what he could have had..,
I love Patti Austin and Sadao Watanabe : perfect combination to give us, “ any other fool “ 1988. Thank for posting. Peace and love brothers and sisters, of good faith 🤜🤛💪🌎🤝👍❤️👏🙌👐🤲🙏.
I must agree! The female singers from the group, The Jets have beautiful voices, and beautiful personalities. I had the pleasure of being the Spanish teacher of the younger sister back in the 90s in Long Beach. She's a very talented and intelligent young lady! Hope all in life is well for Ansara! Mr. L
Any other fool would never walk away Even a fool would still be there, holding you I had it all, with you Lovely Just Lovely Time ran out Time does that Sometimes Cherish the moments They don't always last When you're with your love Time passes so fast Here I am Always, I am here And I am not confused I see things Crystal clear I smile because I can't do anything but We got to do and share and feel What some wait an entire Lifetime for We never counted losses Never kept score We knew that the love we had We shared was a choice Love never lost her voice We respected all that love is and could ever be The love we shared will supersede this life It is bigger than eternity That is where our love dwells Somewhat like a fairytale We entered this, not knowing Where life would lead us What heartbreak would teach us We caught all the blessings We learned all the lessons To live To love Is a gift We open it time and time Again I guess our love lasted will always last Because before we were ever lovers We were first and foremost Friends She smiles......
She always had such a pure and elegant voice. I remember this song as a kid. If I am not mistaken Patti Austin would lend her voice to a lot of television commercial songs. I remember her voice on M&M commercials
I bought this cd many years back even though at the time, I was unfamiliar with Sadao's playing. I was familiar with Diane Warren's compositions and that peaked my interest so I bought it. I've always loved this ballad and Patti's voice, clarity, power and diction was the perfect choice. To use the old maxim, they don't write songs like this any more...because nobody can.
Thank you all for your heart felt words. It was a hard lesson but one that I learned from. I was proud to be a Marine. But never again will I let pride dictate my life again. Semper Fi.
When you have a good man in your life, NEVER TAKE THAT PERSON FOR GRANTED!1 No one should end up like this song!!!! LOL!.............BEAUTIFUL SONG!!!!
I had this on a jazz compilation cassette tape. I would KILL to find it again. Back when singers earned their chops instead of plasticky competition shows.
Probably one of the most underrated songs and singers that has ever been. Patti Austin is amazing.
ABSOLUTELY.
Given it didnt even make the hot100, I say it is THE most underrated song ever. Her song (duet) from 1983, Baby Come to Me, hit #1. This song is better. By far.
Indeed. Its cruel all right.💐
I totally agree with u 500%. I always keep this song on my playlist. Her vocals were impeccable and flawless. Love the way the background vocals come in and the saxophone doesn’t drown out her heavenly voice.
I wish I could get it on Apple Music
Patti Austin nailed what has to be the ultimate lamentation song. To call it beautiful and haunting is a gross understatement. Gives me chills every time I hear it.
Patti Austin's voice is one of the most underrated voices ever. She has range, power, and delivery. I love 4:00 - 4:11
She's amazing
I've been looking for this song for years! I didn't know Patti Austin was the vocalist. Her beautiful singing and Mr. Watanabe's soulful sax make this a great, (yet sorrowful) love song.
I didn't know the late great Jeff Porcaro was the drummer.
@@katemaloney4296 I thought it was Vanessa Williams that sung this song.
*Tuve que tararear la canción a Google porque lo unico que recordaba desde 1989 era su melodía*
I could listen to this for hours.

Ikr. It's just unfortunate it was released in the 80s. It most likely would, in any other decade.
Agreed!
I agree
Absolutely.
It wasn't real big on pop radio, no, but it was a *flamethrower* on Smooth Jazz; top 20 overall, if not higher.
OH MAN!!!! LOVE THIS SONG!!! PATTI'S VOICE, THE MUSIC, THE LYRICS WAS ON POINT. REAL MUSIC WITH A MELODY.
After following Diane Warren's whole career, This ranks as one of my 5 favorite Diane Warren penned songs. This is where she is at her best... Great recording!

It is natural...

Mr. L
I can relate. 💔😢
Any other fool would never walk away
Even a fool would still be there, holding you
I had it all, with you
Lovely
Just Lovely
Time ran out
Time does that
Sometimes
Cherish the moments
They don't always last
When you're with your love
Time passes so fast
Here I am
Always, I am here
And I am not confused
I see things
Crystal clear
I smile because
I can't do anything but
We got to do and share and feel
What some wait an entire
Lifetime for
We never counted losses
Never kept score
We knew that the love we had
We shared was a choice
Love never lost her voice
We respected all that love is and could ever be
The love we shared will supersede this life
It is bigger than eternity
That is where our love dwells
Somewhat like a fairytale
We entered this, not knowing
Where life would lead us
What heartbreak would teach us
We caught all the blessings
We learned all the lessons
To live
To love
Is a gift
We open it time and time
Again
I guess our love lasted will always last
Because before we were ever lovers
We were first and foremost
Friends
She smiles......
She always had such a pure and elegant voice. I remember this song as a kid. If I am not mistaken Patti Austin would lend her voice to a lot of television commercial songs. I remember her voice on M&M commercials
