as an actual equestrian who lost her horse 4 months ago I will be playing with this pack with my sim self and my horse with aging off and we will live forever
That's such a cute idea! I'm sorry for your loss, I know how tough it is to lose an animal friend. May your sims experience revive your horse in the best way possible.
It wouldn't even be anything new beyond wording!! It would LITERALLY be the same as the fall leaves one, just like how 90% of this overpriced pack is reused content. They hype up the inclusiveness of indigenous content, but there's barely ANYTHING. It's such a blatant corporate "ally" money-grabbing attempt. I'm so disappointed with the sims team for such a bad pack, for not standing up against EA greed, and for how shady and whiny they are about criticism and questions.
@@dulce.sirena Whenever a big corporation boasts about including marginalised people(s), I’m always wary that it’s going to be cultural appropriation rather than actual representation.
Fun fact about goats and horses. Some horses that are anxious or lonely actually are given a "companion goat" that functions as an emotional support animal. Horses, being highly intelligent and emotional, can become VERY attached to their goats. Other animals like ponies, sheep, cats, and dogs are also used as emotional support for horses, but goats are the most common to my knowledge.
Donkeys are actually very common. Honestly surprised we didn’t also get those. We could breed them with the horses and create mules. Missed opportunity lol
Rattlesnake death would have been perfect. They actually wouldn't have even had to animate that much - stick your hand in a log to get a frog and surprise- snake bit.
Consumed by the flies on the horse manure after not cleaning it for days would have been a great new death type! And a nod to the sims 2 consumed by flies death !
I'm disappointed they didn't increase the household number from 8 to at least 10, like they have in previous animal related packs. It's not going to be easy to have a family in addition to a ranch full of horses, cats, and dogs.
@@cheeseman.____.1718 A mod can expand your household size but it isn't fully compatible with the game, like if you go into CAS it'll delete your extra sims etc., so it works but it can be quite annoying and glitchy
I plan on starting a Pancakes lagacy with this pack, because Eliza seems like that one person that sees 5 horse posts of Simterest and uproots everything to move to a horse world 😂😂
One of my favourite things from the sims 3 pets was running out at 1am to find the unicorn and try and tame it, I’m kind of sad they didn’t bring that back
Tbh I am pretty glad that ts4 doesn't have unicorns. Why? Well unicorns are so buggy and I mean it. Of course there aren't so buggy as the Islag Paradise stuff, but still. If the unicorns would be still buggy as hell, I wouldn't try to tame that unicorn again.
Really wish we got woohoo spots, a couple of rabbithole careers and the corn, squash and bean plants for the chilli recipe. Maybe also a child horse aspiration of some kind
I think some deaths they could've added was getting bit from a rattlesnake and having to make a type of drink or maybe a secret type of wine to heal poison and i also think they could've added getting killed by bats in the cave with getting a question wrong.
I thought about falling of horses if an unexperienced rider rides a high skilled horse 😅 Afterwards I was like, that would be kinda macabre until I remembered the getting death by getting stuck in a murphy bed 😂
Absolutely the rattlesnake thing would have fit well. I really wish you could be a big animal vet, and then a horse could also get bit by a rattlesnake.
From what I’ve seen, the animation is spot on. It’s incredibly impressive to animate horses to look natural. I’m excited to play, but definitely not excited about the price.
SWATCH CONSPIRACY: Everyone on the sims team is secretly colorblind in some way AND different people work on different build items, leading to not having matching swatches EVER. LOL
I honestly do believe that part of the reason we don’t have matching swatches is different people work on them and they have no way of saving that color (which would effing suck) or color dropping
My dad works in coding and computer and is colorblind. He couldn’t be in the other parts of the military due to being color blind so they taught him computer stuff SO THIS COULD BE TRUE
I was hesitant about this one, but now it seems like an excellent combo if you have cottage living, pets, and seasons combined with this pack. The more chores and outdoorsy stuff, the better for me!
Also an idea for a rags to riches (or rags to ranches) challenge. Stanley should sell nectar that he made and see if he can get rich quick. The end goal should be that he gets a horse and build a ranch. Just an idea though.
Also, Stanley training horses and selling them! I always try to do that in TS3, but it's hard to sell a horse after having your sim be their best friend forever xD I make up stories about how they are professional horse trainers and the adopted horses are someone else's and when I sell them, it's just their owners paying for the training and getting their horse back.
As an actual horse owner this make me laugh because horse poop represents the huge amount of money you put through your horse in feed and hay. Can you sell it for $2/bag to gardeners? Sure. Does that even go close to recovering costs? nope 😂
It would be so fun (depending on how easy it is to level up horse skills) to have your sim be like a horse trainer in this pack. You could have them rescue or buy horses with no training and then level up all their skills and sell them, so it’s like the real life profession where horse trainers are paid to train peoples’ horses.
There should be new traits, aspirations and careers/jobs in EVERY expansion pack. I feel like a big reason why us simmers are disappointed or get bored easy is because while we can explore a new pack with new gameplay features and worlds, we can't explore it with different sims - we have the same traits and aspirations and careers like usual, so once we've seen everything we can gameplay wise, we're left with nothing else to do with our sims. I'm not sure if there are any new careers or traits in this pack, but I sure hope there is.
The release of this expansion pack immediately shot me back in time to 2011 when I was 17 and obsessed with TS3 Pets. I used to listen to Flo Rida - Good Feeling on repeat while building my dream ranches with as many horses as possible. I’m now 29 and I can’t wait to buy this pack - and you know I’ll be listening to Flo Rida just for the nostalgia 🎶
I remember someone telling me once and it made so much sense that baby horses will always be born very afraid of humans because horses by nature are prey animals. So you have to be very handsy on them to earn their trust! I’m glad they carried this over in the game
I will say not all of them are super afraid of humans because I follow a lot of breeders and all of their babies have walked up to them right away but some foals are definitely wary of people ! I think for some seeing their mothers not be afraid helps
Not exactly. Depends on the foal. Remember: us humans have bred horses for THOUSANDS of years! Think of it like dogs: we made them what they are to be of service to us. I've seen plenty of breeders not have to get all handsy with a foal for them to approach them. In fact, some horse people are completely against getting all handsy with a foal right away and instead wait for the foal to approach them whenever possible. This is to allow mom and baby to bond for the first weeks of life. THEN they proceed to work with the foal gradually, which is important so that the foal has an early foundation. It's important for a horse's survival to have the basics down as soon as possible.
I don't love that there's no cross pack compatibility with Cats and Dogs for the Vet... I think it bothers me more because the horses are members of your household, it makes sense to me that would be part of the gameplay. That's the biggest downside in general to me of the medical features of this game being locked behind packs. I am excited to see actual gameplay in the coming days vs just hearing about it too - so ready for that!
@@commanderredjonkks5268 I have seen the same thing on Twitter from multiple sources so I think it's confirmed but will be quite happy if we're wrong 😊!!
What bothers me personally it’s that there isn’t new gameplay for horses that we didn’t have in the sims 3…. But the whole expansion is just about the horse but yet the competitions are STILL a rabbit hole??? No carriages, no having 2 sims ride their horses together and no unicorns? Honestly this gamepack is a massive cash grab because its EA and if they can scam their players they will do it… I hate EA, they are the worst gaming company out there.
I love that you pointed out how they made things to do near the lots so they feel bigger than they actually are bc that’s one of my biggest issues with the sims 4 - lots always feel very isolated and lonely, especially when you play with only one sim 🙈
LilSimsie: Alright I know we're all here for horses so let's move on. Me: *here for the nectar making so I have more lore activities for my vampire Sims* 😳
I'm still disappointed that they didn't take the opportunity to call this pack "Horsin' Around". I understand it might not translate well, but still a missed opportunity.
@@maryhansen4046 I'm not even from any English-speaking countries to know that lol?? BoJack Horseman is one of my favourite shows and it just came to mind. Chill girl.
I think the "just mom" or "just dad" foals make sense since horse colour actually don't mix that much. For example you will never have a chestnut with distinct dots
@@jentryshaw1969it’s not that they look like their dad, it’s based on dominant and recessive genes :). horse genetics are a lot more black and white than other animals like dogs!
Technically Horses genetic are actually very simple and one of the first taught Type of genetics. For example, to get a pure brown horse you need to mix a white one with a black one and never two browns because they carry one 4 types of combinations inside. Since she had a white horse with a black one... The natural would have been getting a brown horse. (I know nothing about name of horses but I do about genetics 🤣 cause of my degree)
@lucycarnaghi8534 ummm No. A grey (Not white) horse will always have a chance at throwing another grey because it's a masking gene. Horse genetics are pretty simple colorwise but your specifics are off. Now if we get into actually "white" horses which are cremello and perlino they are actually double dilutes and the number of dilute genes they have kinda muffles the color. A chestnut with one dilute becomes a palomino, with 2 a cremello. So I'm not sure what you are calling brown (I'd assume bay but maybe you mean a buckskin (?) since that's a bay one dilute gene but I'd hardly call buckskin "brown")
@@NoThankUBeQuiet I meant that if we were to follow the easiest of genetics for horses. Then the results wouldn't be the ones from the Sims (that are basically the same horse as one of the progenitors with the mane of the other) and that probably most of them would turn out to be brown (I mean brown because as I said, I don't know specific breeds of horses) I don't expect the sims to do it either but they could have at least try to mix basics like the sims 2 that did follow a sort of Mendelian inheritance. As you said, there are probably way more detailed gens about horses fur as there is with a lot of other animals. For an example, White cants don't truly exists as a coded fur gen per se.
something i noticed while playing tonight. Male horses pee differently from female ones, as in real life. It's a tiny thing but it shows how much attention to detail there is in this pack
I am not interested in horses at all but this is one of the most beautiful worlds in the Sims and I am so excited to play a Native American family! What a gorgeous world!
I thought it would have been really cool if they added a new horse related career. The two branches could be equestrian or rodeo riders. You'd have to max the riding skill for the top level of both. The equestrian career might require level 8 in charisma, and the rodeo career branch could be level 8 in either comedy or, maybe, mischief (not entirely sure on that one). He'll they even could have added a new sort of feature where the horses were also required to level up in 1 or 2 of the new horse skills to progress in the career. Like equestrian career horses might have to focus more on agility, and the rodeo horses might focus on endurance. Both horse might have to level up in jumping, and temperment until the sim has to pick a career path. I was so excited, and since it was an expansion, I thought it would come with a new career like that. I'm incredibly disappointed it doesn't.
I think rodeo would have to have some kind of athletic ability in addition to the riding ability. Don’t quite remember what the athletic skills were in game. It’s been a while since I opened it. But def athletics would be involved, imo.
Why do you have fear of injury? Injuries are pretty rare, even more in non-professional levels, and also is not common for horses to cause them on purpose.
You and Plumbella have me feeling slightly less worried about the pack. The unicorn frustrates me bc they could have so easily gone the “Golden Chicken” route and had some sort of rare craftable treat to turn a horse into a unicorn with some sort of powers plus more gameplay. I do still feel like there was a lot of missed opportunities for this pack especially with the household/lot sizes (having half your household slots be NPCs is not exactly fun to me) and new wahoo/deaths but I am more excited about playing it.
They didn't add unicorns because the pack is supposed to be realistic, meanwhile they also didn't add a death caused by a horse because that would be realistic? Right
Like they really should've added a death that's caused by a horse. Then there would be consequences to treating a horse really badly. Can you even treat horses badly in sims 4? Like are there any mean interactions like with chickens?
James Turner talked about the swatch issues on the kitchen cabinets too. I doubt it will happen, but it would be great if they could push out some updated colors.
This pack in combination with Cottage Living and Cats And Dogs is going to be amazing, I'm so excited for it. I loved playing with all the animals in Sims3, it was my favorite thing to do. All of my households had horses back then. I love that horses are finally in the game♡
Imagine connecting the cave quest thingy to if you get lucky/do everything correct a unicorn will come out of a cave that you can befriend and adopt if you have X amount of horse friends already
Yeah seeing all these cool details helps it feel more like an expansion pack, and I think I actually appreciate that they mainly focused on making good horse gameplay rather than trying to fit in a bunch different of shallow activities.
@@ninae2478 I agree. The livestream did this pack dirty. Seeing all these details makes me feel better about getting this pack. I’m actually somewhat excited to play it.
@@shrimp3981 I know right! I was so disappointed with how they presented the pack. I had doubts about purchasing it but seeing the details they failed to show changes my mind. I’m quite excited to explore the pack myself.
As a rare creature who loves Strangerville, my only complaint was the small world size, so I’m thrilled this is an expansion pack with a full sized world.
I agree - I love the world but it’s small and I also get annoyed with all the possessed sims (I wish there was a way to turn off the story in game options since I’ve already played it multiple times)
The biggest loss of Sims 4 is that you can't play as your animal, I loved that in the past sims games, ESPECIALLY in the sims 3..this is the only thing sims 4 misses rn tbh.
I agree I still think about it all the time like :( it makes me notice them less because I can’t play them and don’t get me started on when they run away 😭
I’m not done yet, but I am hyped about the cave thing. I would love if they refreshed Jungle Adventure and Werewolves and similar packs with rabbit hole adventures. The riddles remind me of Demon Doors from Fable.
It was a rabbit hole, alright. The meaning of "rabbit hole" is different when applied to Sims 4 and used by simmers. It is not an adventure or a hidden side quest. They are places that your sim disappears into and you are unable to follow them or interact with anything pertaining to this "adventure" Well, you can click on a screen that pops up. The special cave? I'm sure you were very disappointed as you should've been. Oh and the community board that offers you jobs, such as teaching other Sims to ride horses. Or- OMG! Leading a guided tour, like irl horseback riding?? You and your horse will guide townies riding their horses through this beautiful world oh God damn it, you can't do that either!!! You just disappear and reappear seconds later with money! 😡🤬🤬😡
Im so excited for this pack, just i wish that you could take care of sick horses with the vet skill from Cats & Dogs. I think it would have blended nicely
@@tungstensmum1491 I wonder if horses hadn't come out now, if Kayla might have done more Barbie stuff. She at least mildly expressed interest in Barbie during the Pink Southern House build.
i can FINALLY put my Arthur Morgan and Jack Marston sims I downloaded awhile back to good use. i honestly can't wait, i wanna have the whole van der linde gang and their custom horses riding around and causing a ruckus. and i wanna make Valentine. and their Horseshoe Overlook camp. i'm getting ahead of myself here but i am just REEEAAAALLY excited for this pack hahaha.
@@jlpkbrb1086 woah I never could have guessed that 🙄. I’m still allowed to be disappointed that my style of horseback riding isn’t represented in the horse pack.
I haven't even looked at the horses. I've been too busy playing with the mini sheep and mini goats! They're just too cute to exist! I love how the goats will scream and faint if the fox alarm goes off on the chicken coop! It's adorable and hilarious!
Simsie, I love you, but the excuse "horses are hard to do" may be adequate when talking about an indie developer, not a company that's worth almost 40 billion dollars.
i was going to purchase this pack regardless of the review, i want horses THAT bad, but seeing this makes me so much happier. Seems to be a lot of stuff to do, im so excited
It’s so funny seeing the differing comments on other creators videos lol Here people seem really excited, and upbeat. Plumbellas video is full of a lot of people saying they were excited for the pack but now they’re a little disappointed lol
I'M SO RELIEVED we can get milk and wool from the goats and the sheep! They didn't mentioned that in the videos, I was thinking they were just adorable pets.
I’m a horse girly so I’m so excited for this pack! I had so many horses growing up, but now I only have one and I’m in college so I don’t get to see him much. I don’t normally buy expansion packs unless they’re on sale but I’m getting this one asap
I'm assuming the embargo for the pack only lifted today, which is why everyone is posting their reviews, but I really think EA has shot themselves in the foot leaving it so late. A lot of people have been unimpressed with this pack so far and showed concerns over the level of content for the price of an EP. But I think the marketting has been exceptionally poor. Why am I just learning about all these little details now? This should have been shown off a week ago! That 'live'stream was a complete waste of time and I think actively harmed this pack's reputation even prior to release.
@@crazyfrog5552 First of all, it's not an update. Second of all, I meant bugs & glitches wise. There are a few minor things but many people (including myself) were worried that it would be a my wedding stories repeat
I was suspicious about the pack from the little amount of information it felt they were showing. They really did not show really any of the horse gameplay outside of surface level "look! a horse!" and if I am blunt, the CAS actually made me hesitant as it feels very similar to CAS items we have already in some other packs to an extent. Before Simsie's video, I was against the idea of buying it but maybe someday down the road I'll get it on sale. The entirety of the Sims 4 is already well over-priced in my eyes, so I really can no longer justify buying all the packs full price. There have been far worse packs and this pack actually made me question Cottage Living more..
Kayla, why did the sims team have you guys hold off on releasing and videos until 24 hrs prior to release? This is very unlike previous packs and super surprising since you've all had this for an entire week?
Sorry but this EP is just lacking. No new career, lot type, woohoo location, death type, no pool tables, mechanical bulls, no other crafts (e.g. pottery seems to fit in this pack), not enough Native American representation. And you can’t have multiple generation families with cats/dogs and horses, because of the 8 sim slot. I hope they fix at least that in the base game!
Okay okay okay. IM IMPRESSED! As an equestrian the foal and mother dynamic is cute and really nice, the weaning is a great addition and new. I love this so much. I’m actually pleased rather than disappointed. Thank you for sharing these details! The live stream did not share any of these details. Okay I’m pleased with this pack and can play with it a lot!
But besides horses…. What other meaningful gameplay is there. Like cats and dog had the vet career. It just feels like I’m getting scammed if I get it. Also they said they’ll have indigenous representation, but like, it doesn’t feel like they incorporated that at all besides build mode and cas.
I'm here for the hot dog horse I always expected to basically have a unicorn horn as a hat addition so the fact it glows and sparkles is a bonus to me. Im excited to play
Just a hunch as an interior designer I’m pretty sure the barn doors meant for the outdoor use are the ones that match and that first one seems like it’s got the hardware on the top like you would see on an indoor barn slider
23:16 people aren’t saying horses should have been made as a game pack, they’re saying you can’t upsell this little gameplay as an expansion pack. Either add more gameplay to make it worth it , or reduce the price - it’s simple
First pack I preordered because I love historical gameplay and I was getting nervous because I’ve seen so much negativity after the livestream. However this review got me excited for it again. So glad there seems to be minimal bugs and a lot of content.
reallll I think I trust her most on these things bc she's more optimistic which leads to a more positive vibe in the comments and in the video itself yk?
Honestly that's like the only note worthy thing added to the expansion. And the fact that there are hidden traits unlocked by breeding is really cool. Yet nobody really talks about it, as they're obsessed with the goats and sheep, and the rest of the shallow gameplay lol.
the breeding is kinda realistic, you do tend to get clones of the parents, or a completely different foal from the parents, don't tend to get a *mix* of them both but I liked that about the sims 3, that they kinda mushed the parents together to get the foal
idk but an exact copy of the parents just with a different mane is not realistic at all. Literally why would i breed horses if i am just going to get copies? Huge let down
Do goats/sheeps grow? Not at all, I bet. CAS is ridiculously BLAND, horrible hats, REUSED HAIRS from bg and other packs (look among Cats&Dogs and Laudry/Eco Lifestyle). Female's rompers/dresses are nice at least. Build items lack, AS USUAL, the complete three heights matching pieces. You said that too, lots are small and, honestly, paying just for horses that can roam in one or two neighborhoods is just an impossible thing to do, it's a scam. Also, what are those floating things at 14:16? 🤦🏻♂
I'm sorry but the end of this review sounds like an EA script! "This had some much content! There were noooo bugs!" She was literally checking off all the problems people have been talking about...don't trust it
saying the rabbit hole equestrian center is “so much better” than the sims 3 is just further proof that Kayla is an EA shill… the level of delusion is scary
Disagree that Horse Ranch has more content than Cottage Living when the latter has llamas, cows, bunnies, simple living challenge, village fairs, canning, cross-stitching, village quests, oversized produce and more. Horse ranch has horses, goats, sheep and nectar-making but has no new deaths or woohoo spots, nothing for kids other than a reskinned dollhouse, no new careers, no way to create custom obstacle courses, etc. Not saying the horses aren't in-depth but the pack is lacking smaller details that even TS3 Pets managed to include.
I feel like you mostly focused on the positive, which most times is good, but in this case where we are spending a lot of money I think that the review lacked a bit of transparency, maybe I´m worng tho idk haha.
So the excuse that the sims team use about being able to delve more into details with packs that are separated but there really isn’t anything you can do with horses in the sims 4 that you can’t do in the sims 3… expect that somehow they they have less content. Why is the pack a downgrade from something we got over 10 years ago? The competition being a rabbit hole is unacceptable considering the whole pack is JUST for the horses…. No unicorns, no riding your horse together, no carriages and NO UNICORN WFT THIS IS A SCAM.
Remember: We are talking about EA here. Pushing out the bare minimum and ignoring what the community likes/hates is all that EA is about. They only care about grabbing money, and sadly most people fall for it because of updated graphics and better animations, etc.. It's the same thing as with Apple; the newest cheesegrater can be absolute crap, but you have those (for whatever reason) loyal fans that WILL buy your stuff because that's what fans do. Also, there is really no decent horsegames out there that fit this niche style of gameplay (aka, doing whatever you want and playing slice of life), so unless they would actually get a rival to deliver the same graphics and animations *coughastridecough* people will scape money together to buy it just to have a taste of a horsegame. On top of that all, the community that loves playing slice of life games to escape real life WILL bite if you give them aesthetic packs. Especially the american one if you give them a Yeehaw-pack to buy and play with. There is a lot of factors that permit them to get away with this trash. I for one have given up now that they will ever care to deliver a decent product. It IS EA we are talking about. They just don't change unless the money wants to run away in big numbers. :/ But who knows, maybe they'll replace the Unicorn with a unique Mustang you can catch and tame? :'D Would be weird if this pack did NOT have a hidden thingy. They usually do, don't they? Or did they get rid of those things in S4 entirely already?
@@Managable_Mayhem that is so true, thats why I switch to android a few years ago and im really hoping paralives and LBY do a good job competing with the sims. I think EA is about to ruin the sims like they did simcity cuz having the sims 5 on a server is just so stupid and shows how they just don’t listen to what players want. In the meantime I’m gonna go give all my money to game companies like Larian Studios who put so much love and care into their games and never make players pay extra for all the work they put in. Larian is the Goat. It’s just frustrating to see the content creator just coping saying this is a good expansion… like really guys?
@@Alonepistachio Same. My money will be reserved for indie developers who actually CARE about what the community wants, not just about pumping out cash grabs in different flavors. EA could have SO much mor emoney if they gave a damn to let their teams develope something good, but to the people in charge it means 'the sooner, the faster we get money'. Nevermind the other option of waiting some more and making double the amount...impatient fools. I think the positive feedback is partially because they MIGHT get kicked out of programs to get free stuff/sooner access and likely the same as with Apple fanboys and fangirls; they are obsessed with the original product, so everything that follows is immediately viewed with bias to be good as well. Else I can't explain how so few people I've watched on multiple platforms actually call the game add-on out for being worse than S3 Pets and it's horse content. Tho we get this stuff in the art community as well; just because a big popular artist made a design that factually is a shitty looking cashgrab...people just drool over it and throw ridiculous amounts of money at them for a design you can scribble in paint within 2 minutes (and I am NOT exaggerating or simplifying the designing process here....). At this point I just hope someday EA will have a rude awakening and realize their big bosses ruined the company. And then they try to come crawling arounf the corner after giving their teams decent time and budget to make games. I'd even wish them the best then. IF they ever admit to doing the stupid for decades. :P
@@Managable_Mayhem I legit dislike EA so much the more I hear about them, so they cut a lot of the Sims’s budget even tho the sims is their most successful game which is a ridiculous decision even if they want to allocate more to the sims 5, they can afford to put money in both. Then I found out the way they treated American McGee’s Alice in wonderland series and omg they really did just ruin a man’s life just cuz they could. Honestly despicable how they treat their games, customers and employees.
@@Alonepistachio I find that's the case with most things. Not just companies. The closer you look, the uglier things are. ;v; Actually FiFA is their most successful cashcow, Sims is only 2nd....which explains alot. They won't bother putting in more time and money than necessary, delivering the basics is something they got away with for ages so they'll always stick it it unless they get serious damage dealt by customers or a rival. Their practices and working methods are barely acceptable in the best of times. I just hope they didn't ruin too many lifes up until now, I hate that about such companies. I can only imagine how hard one falls if you think you got the best job to make games due to working for a big name and then, BAM, you realize you're basically working for human trash on Amazon levels or worse...AND you're not allowed to show your skills since you're pressed to deliver barely functioning trash that looks nice. (I'd love to see a list of how many people quit their job because they couldn't work to the best of their abilities because the company demanded so.)
My boyfriend used to live in San Diego and he would ride horses over there all the time. I was gonna buy this pack mainly for the CAS stuff but once he said that he’d buy it in exchange for making our sim selves live on a farm with horses and goats, I got excited to get the pack. Especially when they mentioned a new fear of horses. I’m terrified of them, but also have a lot of respect for them. I wonder how bad my sim’s anxiety will be 😂
I'm sorry, but using the "horse developing costs so much" to justify calling this an EP and saying it's worth $40 is an absolutely lame excuse. You can buy the AMAZING...WHOLE GAME....RDR2 for $60 (only $20 more than this DLC) and get the most well designed and graphically beautiful horses in any game hands down.
I agree, especially when EA is a billion dollar company. They have the means to create amazing and in depth content but they refuse because they will make money off this pack either way despite the lack of gameplay.
@@waiffuleIt’s interesting how EA acts like the sims team is small indie game studio, creators are very active on social media and are very vocal about how expensive and hard it is to make the game. These are usually things I see with smaller studios
@@no.reply_ I think it’s great that some of the devs are active on social media and it may be that the sims studio is small in size but the game literally brings in hundreds of millions of dollars each year. I think at this point it’s just EA perpetuating this narrative to get away with less content being in a pack. This could have been an amazing expansion pack. Adding things like new plants or harvestables such as corn or beans, mechanical bull riding, unicorns, wild horses, etc. Even more inclusion of the Native American culture such as letting us craft pottery or jewelry. I found the representation of Native American culture pretty lackluster considering they mentioned that being a key feature.
Tbh I'm a bit disappointed with what I'm seeing for gameplay in this pack but your review got me soooo excited to just fill a house with horses and mini-goats and mini-sheeps! I hate to criticize because I do think EA has been making strides in listening to their audience and making positive changes. BUT - this absolutely should've been a game pack. Expansions should transform the game, and this just doesn't. It's too niche and doesn't add enough universal gameplay (that most will enjoy) to be an expansion. Horses are fun but not essential for a lot of players. Too bad because a lot of people won't want to spend the cost of an EP on what should've been a GP - myself included.
I appreciate you taking your time on this Kayla, it's nice to see more of this new pack with an actual review. I, of course, got it being a horse girl myself and I am stoked to be able to play it :D

Especially in the hay loft. But there might be a way around it. 😉

I'm disappointed they didn't increase the household number from 8 to at least 10, like they have in previous animal related packs. It's not going to be easy to have a family in addition to a ranch full of horses, cats, and dogs.
I didn't think of that, that's a really good point - the average barn I've seen absolutely had cat(s) as well as horses and maybe a dog.

He couldn’t be in the other parts of the military due to being color blind so they taught him computer stuff SO THIS COULD BE TRUE
or they're just incompetent and haven't bothered to make an internal dev tool to generate common swatches for multiple assets
So is there a creator out there who fixes these swatch issues? I would love to have maxis match swatches for all of sims 4 content - wood especially!!

Definitely going to do this myself!
SO Excited for "Can You Get Rich From Just Horse Poop"!!!!!🤩🤩
Can't wait for this to happen.
Also can you get rich from selling horse's
Right!
As an actual horse owner this make me laugh because horse poop represents the huge amount of money you put through your horse in feed and hay. Can you sell it for $2/bag to gardeners? Sure. Does that even go close to recovering costs? nope 😂
nice
It would be so fun (depending on how easy it is to level up horse skills) to have your sim be like a horse trainer in this pack. You could have them rescue or buy horses with no training and then level up all their skills and sell them, so it’s like the real life profession where horse trainers are paid to train peoples’ horses.
I loved doing that in Sims 3, I would always adopt horses and get their skills up to sell them
I legit just said this! The first thing I’m gonna do when I get it
There should be new traits, aspirations and careers/jobs in EVERY expansion pack.
I was thinking about making a horse trainer/breeder...and a wine titan. Two ideas I want to play with.

I heard that song on the radio the other day lol. Talk about throwback!
I remember someone telling me once and it made so much sense that baby horses will always be born very afraid of humans because horses by nature are prey animals. So you have to be very handsy on them to earn their trust! I’m glad they carried this over in the game
They have the ability to kick us to death yet they’re scared of us? 😂😂😂
@@AstarionWifey oh yeah they are scared.. Even though it is ironic lol
@@AstarionWifeyHorses are unusually timid for their size.

I think the "just mom" or "just dad" foals make sense since horse colour actually don't mix that much. For example you will never have a chestnut with distinct dots
Usually the foal will look a lot like its dad and behave a lot like their mom
It's a tiny thing but it shows how much attention to detail there is in this pack
omg i cant wait to see how awkward the male horses look like they do irl😭
I am not interested in horses at all but this is one of the most beautiful worlds in the Sims and I am so excited to play a Native American family! What a gorgeous world!
I'm thrilled to have better braids for my Native American males😀 than the short "female" braids I have on them now. 🤨
True it is disappointing they didn’t add a new career. Wait did they add any careers with growing together ?

Aw me too. I miss riding so much honestly. This pack makes me very happy.
Me too! I’ve been dying to ride again but the money just isn’t there, so I’m pretty excited for this

@@amelhormatilha7847 horse riding accidents are actually surprisingly common, almost 4 times more common /1000h than motorcycle riding
Going the golden chicken route is a good idea! I completely forgot about that and the evil chicken thing
Seriously, why not separate like Sims 2 and 3, 2 even being a closed world had no problem with this
They didn't add unicorns because the pack is supposed to be realistic, meanwhile they also didn't add a death caused by a horse because that would be realistic? Right
Like they really should've added a death that's caused by a horse. Then there would be consequences to treating a horse really badly. Can you even treat horses badly in sims 4? Like are there any mean interactions like with chickens?
Plumbella even said this should be a game pack
James Turner talked about the swatch issues on the kitchen cabinets too. I doubt it will happen, but it would be great if they could push out some updated colors.
This pack in combination with Cottage Living and Cats And Dogs is going to be amazing, I'm so excited for it. I loved playing with all the animals in Sims3, it was my favorite thing to do. All of my households had horses back then. I love that horses are finally in the game♡

They are places that your sim disappears into and you are unable to follow them or interact with anything pertaining to this "adventure"

I'm assuming the embargo for the pack only lifted today, which is why everyone is posting their reviews, but I really think EA has shot themselves in the foot leaving it so late. Why am I just learning about all these little details now? This should have been shown off a week ago! this is like my whole aesthetic. i'll be using all the CAS and build stuff in like all my plays now lmaooo
Same! Only thing is all the horses look a little wonky😂
But besides horses…. What other meaningful gameplay is there. Like cats and dog had the vet career. It just feels like I’m getting scammed if I get it. Also they said they’ll have indigenous representation, but like, it doesn’t feel like they incorporated that at all besides build mode and cas.
i agree
Honestly, as a horse owner I was a bit skeptical of this pack but I'm really pleasantly surprised at how realistic they were able to make it
I love how Simsie says 'Im becoming a horse girl' with a tinge of a fearful tone. xD
Welcome to Horse Girl Club, you cannot escape ever. c:
they will probably release a kit of riding clothes because the cas is so small😩
Called Western Wares
I could actually see that but with like posh riding uniform and such. Because this pack focuses more on western style horse riding.
I'm here for the hot dog horse
I always expected to basically have a unicorn horn as a hat addition so the fact it glows and sparkles is a bonus to me.
No, people definitely were saying that.
First pack I preordered because I love historical gameplay and I was getting nervous because I’ve seen so much negativity after the livestream. However this review got me excited for it again. So glad there seems to be minimal bugs and a lot of content.
YESSSS! I’ve been waiting for Simsie’s review!!!🎉
sameee!
Me 2
Me 2 😂
reallll I think I trust her most on these things bc she's more optimistic which leads to a more positive vibe in the comments and in the video itself yk?
@@thezonaiarchitect I'm more of a fan of plumbella. She is very unbiased.
I am very VERY excited for horse breeding and you can train horses and sell for profit. That is VERY realistic!!
Edit: future irl riding vlog!?
Honestly that's like the only note worthy thing added to the expansion. And the fact that there are hidden traits unlocked by breeding is really cool. Yet nobody really talks about it, as they're obsessed with the goats and sheep, and the rest of the shallow gameplay lol.
Diligently watching every lilsimsie review knowing full well I’m buying it no matter what
This pack reminds me so much of my childhood, growing up in texas on a horse ranch. I love it!
It would be dope if 2 sims could ride on one horse! It would be rlly romantic
I wonder whether Sims are able to ride a horse with one of those Infant carriers (if you also have the Growing Together pack)...
Ooh waiting for the mods
the breeding is kinda realistic, you do tend to get clones of the parents, or a completely different foal from the parents, don't tend to get a *mix* of them both but I liked that about the sims 3, that they kinda mushed the parents together to get the foal
idk but an exact copy of the parents just with a different mane is not realistic at all. Literally why would i breed horses if i am just going to get copies? Huge let down
honestly i see myself going into cas to make the foals more realistic to what they'd be like irl 😭
@@mollie3013 I guess anything is kinda realistic, my horse is a solid bay but her mum is blanket Appaloosa and dad is leopard Appaloosa
@@dinojk8034 yeah that’s true 😂 in a game like this you don’t really want a copy you want something different
There were noooo bugs!" She was literally checking off all the problems people have been talking about...don't trust it
Right i watched plumbella an she was very honest
saying the rabbit hole equestrian center is “so much better” than the sims 3 is just further proof that Kayla is an EA shill… the level of delusion is scary
I’m excited for the horse pack but I’m curious if horses get double skill gain from micro homes like sims do.
such an interesting thought. i can’t wait to play with cross pack compatibility
Not saying the horses aren't in-depth but the pack is lacking smaller details that even TS3 Pets managed to include.
the trailer really did the pack no justice, i was so worried but it’s actually kinda good
I feel like you mostly focused on the positive, which most times is good, but in this case where we are spending a lot of money I think that the review lacked a bit of transparency, maybe I´m worng tho idk haha.
But who knows, maybe they'll replace the Unicorn with a unique Mustang you can catch and tame? :'D
Would be weird if this pack did NOT have a hidden thingy.
@@Alonepistachio I find that's the case with most things. Not just companies. The closer you look, the uglier things are. ;v;
Actually FiFA is their most successful cashcow, Sims is only 2nd....which explains alot.
I wonder how bad my sim’s anxiety will be 😂
Probably won’t get it just yet but the horses look very cute and the animations look very good
I'm sorry, but using the "horse developing costs so much" to justify calling this an EP and saying it's worth $40 is an absolutely lame excuse.
Loved the nectar making in sims 3 I think it came with the pack that you traveled in France! So glad they brought it back
Tbh I'm a bit disappointed with what I'm seeing for gameplay in this pack but your review got me soooo excited to just fill a house with horses and mini-goats and mini-sheeps! I feel it's gonna be super cute to watch them play and bother everyone! haha And The CAS for horses is beautiful ! I can't wait to color my horses pretty
4:34 omgg literally on the other side of my screen yelling “that door is different bc it belongs in a HOUSE not a BARN!!! The red doors are for the barn!!!!” 😂😂
I'm gonna say it. If Horse Ranch should have been a Game Pack, so should have Snowy Escape.
Snowy escape IS mostly tied to one world, which always annoyed me
Facts
That’s what I’ve been saying so yeah horses should still be a game pack
you’re very much not wrong, same in theory could be said for Ecolifestyle
@calvinking357 game packs are supposed to have more gameplay than expansion packs though. Exapansions is more for systems and world and CAS and items.
Horse Ranch is finally down to $20 on sale, I took advantage of that!
I appreciate you taking your time on this Kayla, it's nice to see more of this new pack with an actual review. I, of course, got it being a horse girl myself and I am stoked to be able to play it :D
As a person whose hyper fixation is cowboys and sims I’m about to live my best life
Thank you Kayla for your review. I always watch pack reviews before purchasing a DLC. I appreciate your insights about the pack ❤
you should do a rags to riches with horse tournaments or nectar! i would love to see stanley interact with horses lol
so no careers, one level of aspiration, no unique woohoo spot, no unique deaths, the riding competition is a notification and not interactive, can’t control the horses but they take up a household slot, no cross pack compatibility with the vet skill or cottage living, no secret world or unicorns, no collectables, no new lot type, no new kids activities… but at least the animations are cute
I know this doesn't have anything to do with the pack, but I'm always amazed by how great your skin looks. Drop yourrr skincare routine pls. 🌻
