The FBH with GSM on my Disco3 heats the cabin. Via the phone I can turn it on and off, set the time, the start and run time for heater and the same for the ventilation. Very handy when it’s -20. The only thing I use the oval timer thing for is to turn the heater off it is still running when I get into the car. Only downside of the FBH is that it locks up if the voltage drops and then you need to reset it by pulling the fuse in a slightly odd procedure.

Good video and content as always. I’ve also been watching Grizzly and Bear for a couple years. Do you think you’ll eventually move over to a Discovery 4?
Not as long as our LR3 is working. I want to replace my Challenger this year if I find a buyer. I know what I will get then but I don’t want to spoiler it. Will be in a future video. Hopefully Vera does not spoiler it either 😬.

Hello, there is possibility to steering that Webasto on that way for example plug in Webasto 1533 steering box, but my question is how we could make steering of inside vent without starting the engine?
I fitted same timer but cut the BUS wires so car does not control the FBH now now faults. I also added a remote controller relay to the Webasto (soldered on to button pins) now all you have to do is activate FBH when you put the coffee on. 30 mins later walm car, when you start car press flame again 😀
Dann startet Webasto.
GSM remote, Is that the Altox? with the ipcu module to let you heat up the cabin that is made in Russia? I do have a remote from Bell Autoservice in the Uk. I dont think he sells em any more. on the disco3.co.uk forum, there is a user called Alex Perscalu, he has posted a DiY sollution to start / Stop the webasto using the LR button on your remote. Worth have a look for a good read....
Yes, I believe it's to be 8 degrees Celcius and below that the diesel heater will only start. Or in that range. So when people buy their Discoverys in the summer time, the diesel heater will not start and that is automatically translated to "it doesn't work" 🙄That is not true. 🙋♀️Vera
So check out this video. All parts are linked in the video description. ua-cam.com/video/S9yaVGebTBk/v-deo.htmlsi=Yltf7uoYG-rd8jjy It needs to have the module. If it doesn't start at all, under the correct circumstances ( it won't start when it is warm), read out any faults and check the disco3.co.uk website for further help. 👍🙋♀️
All winter I have been cold starting my d3 in down to -32 degrees celcius. (Norway) Although it handels it really well, I have just fitted an Altox module so I can preheat the engine. Really looking forward to not breaking my heart every time I start my discovey in wintertime. Love the content. Keep it up! Edit: Btw I had the same fault as you even on a cold fbh. After I changed the fire chamber it runs perfect every time. Maybe when my Altox is connected the foult will appear again?
We are going to cover more fbh topic in the fall. We actually wanted to get into it more, but then spring came and it got warm again. We unfortunately drifted off to other content. We will look more into the Altox module then, a viewer send us great information. 😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
Ps just tested my aux heater and really happy that I don’t need to service it yet 😂, now that I understand how it is setup, as it looks like a lot of work.
another great vid, ps I’m now the proud owner of disco 3 it has small isues but i love it. loose connection some were ie heaters are on then they turn on an off lol i tap the dash and fixes it also EGR valves need cleaning

OK Then my Disco 3 is a Unicorn i have fitted the Webasto Watch with the big Remote T100, both trown in the ABS Compartment. You can start the FBH and it will also run the Fan in the Cabin for 30 Minutes. But to activate it you have to wake the Car up, means you unlock, press the on Button on the T100 and let the Car do its Thing. The Disco will later lock itself and when the 30 Minutes are over you can start the Engine and have a seat in a nice prewarmed Car even at -22 degrees. And most important it throws no fault Codes
if the cars not reaching temp just go old school on it and put something over the front grill until the weather warms up ... trucks have been doing this for years
Lr-fbh.co.uk, his controllers work using the land rover button on the key fob to start the heater. It does not effect the automatic starting of the fbh.
I have ThermoCall 3 hooked up to it and it is the best thing ever Edit: it doesn't need to be sleeping and it can go for upto 999 minutes (not that you would ever want that)
Jeez that's complicated. How about you get in the car & start it before the heater turns off? I can't programme my DH but at 7c or lower it turns & starts blowing warm in a few minutes. Luckily its not too smelly or smokey. 👍
Well, our FBH detects a premature flame, because it's still hot, and won't start automatically again. And is going to log a fault for sure 😄. But the car is of course warm when we start it, but our FBH won't start again. 🙋♀️ Vera
I changed my fbh last night for a D4 one all I did as per instruction change the pcb and it works really well far superior than the old d3 fbh.. newer better updated unit from the breakers yard £90 1 hour later all done very happy 😊
I have the remote controller for my FBH which states it won't work with the D4 FBH. I'm guessing it will if I change the PCB board over. Does the board need soldering?
@@powervolt748 no nothing needs soldering on a D4 fbh or d3, the pcb board is we’re the 3 plugs plug into the fbh (same as d3 one), remove fbh strip down very easy then pop the cover off we’re the 3 plugs plug into the unit you will see 4 screws undo them remove slowly and the pcb board lifts out. Do the same on a d3 fbh and put the d3 pcb board into the D4 fbh one re assemble then put the D4 fbh into the d3. I got a remote for the fbh as well running off the 3rd button on the key and all works well. Just put the d3 pcb into the D4 fbh and re fit that’s it very easy.
The factory CAN-bus heaters are kinda junk IMO. I have 2014 Sprinter which has factory installed double Eberspächer heaters. In my opinion they're kinda useless if you want to preheat the car because they have limited running time and limited start counter. So if it's only a little freezing, the heater can be started only 6 times and 20min per time. Then you have to drive the car at least 15 or 20 minutes and then the counter will reset. IF i sometime drive it only short distances the counter won't reset and now you can't preheat the car. I live in Finland so it gets really cold in winter here. -20-30C. I solved the problem by installing universal Webasto Thermotop Evo heater. It runs as long as i want and as many times as needed. Of course i have external charger installed also so the battery won't drain too much.
@@Vera_and_Christian Oh yes, they’re quite common cars here! Which is surprising because Finns are known to be Toyota people. And i hate Toyota 😉 My neighbour has one LR also.
the fault your having is because you need a new glow plug! this is what we do, replace the burner with a new plug and it will check the plug and heat your engine. this happens when the plug is getting to the end of its life, a new plug ohms is 0.25 and an old plug is 0.4 ohms. ant higher and the webasto will stop altogether. sounds like your "nursing it" through. new plug and burner
With some additional work and money, the cabin fans can be turned on as well. Disco3.co.uk has the information about it. I would add a Webasto Air Top or Eberspacher D2 to the trunk and heat the cabin up.
Initially I thought it was a device such as this ua-cam.com/video/1vOIOX6_HGg/v-deo.html Retrofitted. I wonder if there is room at the rear area of the LR3 to fit something similar to fully heat the interior. Perhaps only useful for overnight trips away, in order to provide heat during family sleeping times.
Yeah we bought one of those diesel heaters and wanted to mount them on the outside of the Discovery in an alubox (on our airlinerail). But Christian bought the 5KW one and thought it was too much. So we sent it back🙄 intending to buy a 2KW one. Then it got warmer and we forgot about it. Now it's May and freezing cold and I wish we would have kept the 5KW one 😅. I'll have to wait until end of summer for such an upgrade. 🙋♀️ Vera
It is a diesel thing for sure, and only in the northern countries, where it gets cold. But seeing the weather map of the US, almost every diesel owner is going to need one at the moment😨. Stay safe 👍🙋♀️ Vera
Many small diesels have an aux Webasto or a Eberspächer purely to heat the engine, but not normally to actually heat the engine before start, that is an option. No it’s there because diesels with EGR don’t produce enough heat at low load to maintain normal operating temp during winter, my VW camper has and only operates when the engine is running if ambient is 4c or less and coolant below 70c. EGR is to reduce combustion temp to reduce NOX and it works too well at low load, problem is most EGR systems are not working at optimal due to blockage making emissions even worse, my Eberspächer is not working which is normal as around town & short journeys it’s on/off on/off so the glow pin has a short life. My EGR is cleaned blanked & programed out & fuel economy improved by 20% a good auto engineer will admit if pressed EGR works on emission testing but not so good in real life.

It’s purely for heating the engine in cold weather to run more efficiently. It’s useless for preheating the cab. Christian
So informative and yet funny with it 👍👍 Vera trying to speak had me laughing too 👍👍
😂🙋♀️ Vera
Another top movie. A hug from Portugal. :)
Thanks Mario, glad you like our videos. 🙋♀️ Vera
Of course I like. They are very useful, and very fun. Congratulations
@@Vera_and_Christian good man! You need to keep that older LR3 so you can have projects to work on and keep that content coming! I always enjoy the videos.
If you use the altox system that is app based via phone and can also be used to warm the cabin prior to u getting in and also can be used when camping/sleeping inside😁😉
Thanks for the tip, we are going to look into it. 👍🙋♀️ Vera
Grüss Gott, another subscriber here. I'm glad to say I don't have to do the same heater acrobatics as you guys - I have a Discovery 4..! Getting into a warm car on a cold morning is a real bonus - if I may direct you to another channel that has a diesel heater and remote then check out UA-camr - Simon, a Bloke in the Woods, or you may have done so already. He has a Defender with a different remote / timer device. He posted his video about it on 27th Jan 2021. Keep the videos coming - I really do enjoy watching them 👍🏻😁 Tschüss
Thanks for the tip, I am certainly going to check out this video👍. I actually just started to watch his channel for his campfire cooking and I am hooked. ( I can eat a steak for breakfast too). 🙋♀️ Vera
Hello, there is possibility to steering that Webasto on that way for example plug in Webasto 1533 steering box, but my question is how we could make steering of inside vent without starting the engine?
You need to buy a Altox unit. Christian
Would you consider the Canadian solution and use an electric engine block heater for winter starting?
If we would live somewhere where it gets that cold in the winter, definitly. 👍🙋♀️ Vera
I fitted same timer but cut the BUS wires so car does not control the FBH now now faults. I also added a remote controller relay to the Webasto (soldered on to button pins) now all you have to do is activate FBH when you put the coffee on. 30 mins later walm car, when you start car press flame again 😀
How this summer is going, I probably need this sooner than I want to admit. 🥶😃🙋♀️ Vera
Try looking at the night heaters that the trucks have they run while the engine off
I remember those when living in Michigan😃 🙋♀️ Vera
I have the we basto inside the motor but I have no idea if it is working yet ( idont have remote control ) , how can I know it ? do you have an idea ?
Dann startet Webasto.
GSM remote, Is that the Altox? with the ipcu module to let you heat up the cabin that is made in Russia?
I do have a remote from Bell Autoservice in the Uk. I dont think he sells em any more.
on the disco3.co.uk forum, there is a user called Alex Perscalu, he has posted a DiY sollution to start / Stop the webasto using the LR button on your remote.
Worth have a look for a good read....
We are going to check it out for sure. 👍🙋♀️ Vera
Is there a minumum tempature threshold before it will work?
Yes, I believe it's to be 8 degrees Celcius and below that the diesel heater will only start. Or in that range. So when people buy their Discoverys in the summer time, the diesel heater will not start and that is automatically translated to "it doesn't work" 🙄That is not true. 🙋♀️Vera
There is GSM remote for FBH...
Hello guy's. My question is, how it's working the fbh? How ca I start it? Because I don't get it and I'm new with LR. Thanks
😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
Nice video folks. Amusing and informative 😎
Ps just tested my aux heater and really happy that I don’t need to service it yet 😂, now that I understand how it is setup, as it looks like a lot of work.
😅👍 You are not the only one. 🙋♀️
My P38 would love a FBH.
Love your videos! Informative and entertaining.
Thanks 😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
Interesting what scan tool have you got ?👍
Hi Dan, we use the iCarsoft i930 OBD II Scan Tool. 🙋♀️ Vera
another great vid, ps I’m now the proud owner of disco 3 it has small isues but i love it. loose connection some were ie heaters are on then they turn on an off lol i tap the dash and fixes it also EGR valves need cleaning
Cool,I am happy for you 😃👍. Do you know your color? We replaced both EGR Valves and be sure to check wether you need to replace the oilpump befor it fails on you. 🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian I don’t know actual colour name yet it’s black. It’s in garage atm getting electric issues fixed I’m no good with electric stuff lol so can’t enjoy properly yet. I’ll look in to the oil pump cheers
Oh wow. This is what I want too. I need to google it. Thanks.
Forest Gump shrimp reference!
Excellent thank you.
😃 Thanks, appreciate your comment. 🙋♀️ Vera
if the cars not reaching temp just go old school on it and put something over the front grill until the weather warms up ... trucks have been doing this for years
Yes, I should get it some mittens and that should take care of it. Damn electronics. 👍
Mine wouldn't start in cold until you pour hot water over the coolent sensor then it starts mines a discovery 3 starnge
My FBH runs once the car is started to help get the engine up to heat quicker too
Lr-fbh.co.uk, his controllers work using the land rover button on the key fob to start the heater. It does not effect the automatic starting of the fbh.
We are going to look into that👍, thanks for the link. 🙋♀️ Vera
I have ThermoCall 3 hooked up to it and it is the best thing ever
Edit: it doesn't need to be sleeping and it can go for upto 999 minutes (not that you would ever want that)
I want one of those. I’ll test if the 999 minutes work 😳
U can buy a GSM module for automation
Jeez that's complicated. How about you get in the car & start it before the heater turns off? I can't programme my DH but at 7c or lower it turns & starts blowing warm in a few minutes. Luckily its not too smelly or smokey. 👍
Well, our FBH detects a premature flame, because it's still hot, and won't start automatically again. And is going to log a fault for sure 😄. But the car is of course warm when we start it, but our FBH won't start again. 🙋♀️ Vera
Put a D4 fbh in a D3, it has upgraded/better burner, all you have to change is the pcb board... 👍
Interesting! So take PCB board from inside the D3 FBH and place inside D4 FBH?
@@powervolt748 that’s all 👍
I changed my fbh last night for a D4 one all I did as per instruction change the pcb and it works really well far superior than the old d3 fbh.. newer better updated unit from the breakers yard £90 1 hour later all done very happy 😊
At least you got into a warm car -11
I just wish the seat heating would start with the FBH. Those leather seats are really cold in the morning. 🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian I feel your pain my heated seats take apex 5 mins to warm up Christian must have rhino skin not to notice 😂😂
Now it’s getting strange - next to same cars, my wife wears exactly the same MH down jacket. :)
Cool, I like her already 😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian Haha, thanks! Yes you would probably end up in technical gear talk. 😅
👍But people, also in Finnland , buy a Discovery inspide if the FBH. 🙋♀️
@@Vera_and_Christian Oh yes, they’re quite common cars here! Which is surprising because Finns are known to be Toyota people. And i hate Toyota 😉 My neighbour has one LR also.
Oh also why is the dog not with you?
It's Fabians, not ours 😢. We have only met Fabian and Luna 4 weeks ago. 🙋♀️ Vera
I use the oval timer for 30 minutes before leaving for school and my daughter gets to ride in a warm car everyday.
Same for us. We just got the problem that the FBH logs a fault if we don’t wait until it fully stopped before starting it again. 🤔
There is solution check altox
The Simon Collins remote works much better
Thanks, we will look it up. 👍
. . . . . . and that's all I have to say about that !! . . . . . . "unquote". Cheers.
👍😂🙋♀️ Vera
The fbh on my Unimog heats cabin, coolant and feeds heat to fuel tank.
the fault your having is because you need a new glow plug! this is what we do, replace the burner with a new plug and it will check the plug and heat your engine. this happens when the plug is getting to the end of its life, a new plug ohms is 0.25 and an old plug is 0.4 ohms. ant higher and the webasto will stop altogether. sounds like your "nursing it" through. new plug and burner
Still the same plug and burner in the vehicle and no problems. Years have passed. Christian
With some additional work and money, the cabin fans can be turned on as well. Disco3.co.uk has the information about it. I would add a Webasto Air Top or Eberspacher D2 to the trunk and heat the cabin up.
Thanks for the tip, going to check that out. I just wish that the car seat heating would start with the FBH. 😄🙋♀️ Vera
Initially I thought it was a device such as this
ua-cam.com/video/1vOIOX6_HGg/v-deo.html
Retrofitted.
🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian
Just cuddle up to him and smile doe-eyed when you ask for another 5kw model; no man could ever resist this from you.
😊
Why does your car need this Webasto system? Is it something diesels need? Seems like it is more trouble than it is worth!
It is a diesel thing for sure, and only in the northern countries, where it gets cold. But seeing the weather map of the US, almost every diesel owner is going to need one at the moment😨. Stay safe 👍🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian Not as many diesels in the States, especially California, compared to Europe! But what great mileage they get...
Hi Christian, did you try to push the "flame" button on yhe oval timer after few minutes of driving in order to light up the FBH again?
If you wanna check what a cold start sounds at -21 see this: ua-cam.com/video/b08BbPkvVXQ/v-deo.html
😂, but it did start 👍. 🙋♀️ Vera
Ha ha ha ! Small critters !

😄 You don't need a diesel heater then. 🙋♀️ Vera

It s not normal after 10 min of engine running that the coolant temperature to be so low, the thermostat must be broken
