Incredible makeover 1960's suitcase

- Step by step makeover procedure for a 1960's suitcase.
Here is a list of the MATERIALS and TOOLS I've used
To disassembly the suitcase I've used:
- wood chisel
- cobbler pincer
To remove nails from the all the hinges and from the wooden pieces
- cobbler pincer
To clean the small pieces of wood:
- 80/120/240 grit sandpaper
To clean the metal pieces
- the black + decker light drill driver
- wire brush set: 2 disc brushes - coarse (the grey one) and fine, which is much more softer (the yellow one)
- hand plier to hold on the metal pieces while brushing
To straighten the metal pieces that were damaged either with the passage of time or by the dismantling process i’ve used a light hammer.
To cover the exterior I've used brown synthetic leather.
To glue the synthetic leather:
- brush
- a slow-drying adhesive usually used in the shoe making process
- hand cutter to remove the excess leather
- rapid stapler gun to fix better the borders
To fix in position the metal pieces:
- small steel nails
To cover the interior I've opted for a synthetic beige leather which I glued with the same adhesive that I've used on the exterior part.

Slow down the playback speed
As said before, the process is long. Thus, the speed must be quite fast-forwarded. Otherwise, you must get annoying watching a 4-5 day video. You can stop the video anytime you want, or you can slow it by yourself by choosing a low speed. Thank you for your interest! Have a nice weekend!

First of all I'd like to thank you for commenting the video. Secondly, in order to answer to your questions... Given the fact that the handle wasn't present on the suitcase when I got it and given the fact that my purpose wasn't to restore the object but to makeover it, it seemed unlikely to ad it when it was missing from the beginning.

Replacing a suitcase lining usually helps get rid of mustiness, and odors and such that can get into anything stored inside. The red and white stripe paper was beautiful though and a wonderful crisp visual relief from the staid brown leather outer. I think a red and white leather lining would have been both beautiful and a cool nod to the original. Still I don't know what he wishes to do with the piece or what he might want to store in it. Say plans to display it open to house a collection and the collection would look best with a plain creamy background. Thus he used the lining that he did. There are so many variables to consider.
No carrying handle(s)?

Your goal of taking something destined for the landfill and turning it into something useable was great. The overall level of craftsmanship was great. I know these vedioes aren't easy to make, however I would have liked to have seen a little more attention to detail paid to the seams and transitions of the diffrent materials. Overall I liked the video and great job.

Hello, nice to have you on my channel! Unfortunately, those kinds of cases are all made of cardboard and paper. Thus, "cleaning" would have been quite impossible to do.

First of all, thank you for your opinion. Secondly, if I had taken off the old material, there would not have been left any suitcase anymore. Thus, the coverage of the old one was impetuos. Those kinds of suitcases are made up of cardboard.

Had to stop after a minute because 1) Too fast to see what you are doing, 2) Made me dizzy just trying to follow. Your tutorial would be great if you slowed it down about half.
