I saw the movie and that still confused me.

The script was unfinished and they would be making shit up as they were filming. They also cut out quite a bit of scenes from the 3rd and 4th act which makes things seem really messy and disjointed.

This is what I love about Wes Craven's films, he's able to mix creepy and comedy, two polar opposite elements, and make them work, which is what made movies like A Nightmare On Elm Street and Scream (my all time favourite movie) so memorable

The Original Freddy Krueger can never be beat.
What I remember loving about Freddy when I first saw him is that he was so different from other slashers. At the time most of them were hulking silent brutes who couldn’t be reasoned with, but also didn’t seem to understand what they were doing. And then you had this guy who not only understood everything he was doing but was laughing at you the whole time. It was such a change to have a killer who was not only frightening but clever and sadistic.
He was defeated by being ignored.

If we're talking the best horror franchises of each era. There hasn't really been a 2000s horror franchise with the same impact as any of those, that decade was just sequels, reboots and one-off movies. I guess The conjuring or The purge might have the 2010s, we'll have to see which one finishes strongest by 2020.

I watched all the old Nightmare films and i love the remake. It adds what Wes Craven wanted to add with Freddy being a child molester but he didn't want the character to be hated so it got dumbed down to child murderer. In the short film Nightmares in Red White and Blue this was stated by Wes Craven himself.

By making him so serious , so grim and just down right wrong to the point where you hate him and I don't wanna hate Freddy he's what made me love the movies especially when the main characters were unlikeable which in the remake they are unlikeable they ruined. Honestly the guy who played Freddy in the remake wasn't bad. The problem was the writing was too desperate to copy the originals works and the most famous kill being a copy/paste situation.
Granted New Nightmare did the same famous kill but they added to it by showing Freddy working, even dragging a woman to the ceiling.
If they just tried to keep him doing new kills and even new one liners, it woulda been pretty good.

1 bit worth noting is they did have Robert England voice as Scarecrow in Injustice 2. That was just a fantastic choice.

Honestly I could watch every one of those and never get tired of them. Robert Englund is such an underrated and talented actor it sucks so much that he's Typecast half of the time. The Remake is good and those actors did such a good job and that movie but you just can't beat the originals
