Quite sublime. And guitarists (young ones especially) should take note - Fripp is a guy who can absolutely melt a fretboard / has unreal technical ability, and yet, he mostly chooses to slow it down, or play fast only where it truly, musically fits - as he thinks very intentionally about creating mood, atmosphere, textures, making dream-like soundscapes of other worlds and possibilities - of making music that puts one's head in a particular or deeply reflective space. This is what all great musicians do: they seek to contribute to the overall piece so as to make it more interesting, more dynamic, melodic, etc. It's the opposite of the mentality of showing off one's chops or saying, "Look at me!" It's the attitude of saying, "LISTEN to the MUSIC!"
How wonderful. The creativity and sensitivity of Mr. Fripp never ceases to amaze me, and no disrespect to the very talented musicians who play with him is intended! This is just what I needed on a frantically busy work day in the middle of the afternoon. There is indeed beauty in the world! It's not all deadlines, KPIs and brain-dead, venal managers. :-)
Forget the guitar playing, Fripp is one of the greatest composers/innovators in music history! He walks alongside giants like Bach & Beethoven & Mozart etc....
+Eleuterio Ramalho It is very difficult for me to watch this anymore. I worked 2 blocks from the Towers. On a better note, Fripp adores NY so I have seen him at least 50 times since 1976. He lived there for a while as well.
+Eleuterio Ramalho Can't move on but I try. I have big pictures of WTC in each of my son's rooms. "Never Forget." I saw Fripp do an unannounced solo Frippertronics there a couple of years earlier. In 2010, he did the same in the still unfinished Winter Garden. I missed that one. Fripp is still very much a New Yorker. 4 nights in 2014; more than anyplace else in the world. Oh, I've had a meal or talked at a cocktail party with him 3 times!!!
+hfhifi At the time I was in Hollidays, I see astonished what happens in TV, seems unreal at the time. america and Europe, and Russia must see the dramas ocurring all over the world, and togheter stop all the pain,as possible. even by use of strength. best regards, I'm european, living in Portugal.
Nice ... I always liked this kind of music that Fripp has been doing over the years, there is something very liberating about it spiritually. Helps me sort out my brain electronics ... kinda like a good set of brain calisthenics.
At first I was bothered by the tone of the Ovations with plugged soundholes, but it's kind of growing on me. It sits really well in the mix when the full ensemble is playing.
The audio link in the description is broken. It leads to the DGM website but to a 404 error page. I'd love to be able to download this and listen to the whole concert. I've really been getting into King Crimson recently and this is my first time hearing The Robert Fripp String Quintet. I love this.
Jonah Fuerstenberg yes lots of fuzz, digital reverb and delay, with volume pedal to swell in/out. nowadays he uses a sustainer pickup and a midi pickup/synth system, not sure if he was using that here
I had a neck though 7 string that would sustain ;like that. Kicking myself for selling it today, but it had Fishman FLuence pups I just didn't like . Stoopid !!
What are you doing Grandpa Fripp? Why am I all in tears? No one truly knows what you do!And I'm glad you still around, doing your thing.Pray for you!

This is the Fripp that I love! Thank u so much!
Actually, I love all things Fripp!
Robert Fripp is a guitar genius and this is a fantastic mixture of Progressive rock and ambient music.
Robert is one of the finest guitarist , not many have heard of
I get it Mr. Fritz. We're the fortunate ones.
The master minimalist, this is so beautiful.
You listen to Fripp too!? ,Wow dude that's shocking me in the good way
Drummer Bill Bruford once called him an amalgam of Stalin, Gandhi and the Marquis de Sade.
Those two were always fighting. I don't think anyone else had quite the relationship with Fripp that Bruford had.
@@fleursbruyantes4177Funny how these two dudes always at eachothers throats were capable of making such brilliant works no others could.
We need an official DVD of this!!!
Good harmonics!
Forget the guitar playing, Fripp is one of the greatest composers/innovators in music history! He walks alongside giants like Bach & Beethoven & Mozart etc....
Great Robert Fripp
A total genius of the music
🎸🙄
Damn. He has some of the coolest ambient chill music. I got so many chills. Frippertronics are so spacey and cool.
Genius Fripp, Magical music. King Crimson is King
I saw them at a free concert in The World Trade Center. Eno did the sound. It's a bittersweet memory for me.
+hfhifi Very special Sir
+Eleuterio Ramalho It is very difficult for me to watch this anymore. I worked 2 blocks from the Towers. On a better note, Fripp adores NY so I have seen him at least 50 times since 1976. He lived there for a while as well.
+hfhifi Yes the Towers, the rest of the World can't understand the drama, only the natives of NY has the real image. Had to forgett and move on

Como siempre desde su King Crimson , Robert Fripp tan genial y espectacular , le da otros sentidos a la musica .

Truly astounding music. The harmonies cleanse my being
only Fripp can sound like Mr.Fripp.
So unique and articulate. Very inspiring as a drummer/artist for 20+ years, this rings into the inner depths of my soul.
So good. This is my favourite genre of music right now. It calms my soul and gives me a sense of hope.
People like to rag on the Ovation guitars, but I love their harpsichord-like sound. They're very unique.
Epic. Fripp is one of my guitar heroes.
For the love of Fripp. Wonderful.
RFSQ was a great combo. The album they put out is *excellent*. wag wag wag wag wag wag wag wag wag wag wag wag wag wag wag wag
Was that your tail? Good typing, tail!
Long live the KING!!! Robert Fripp...
I would love a DVD or BluRay of this concert.
Happy birthday Robert Fripp!!
4:23 I've never heard a guitar sound so serene
Fripp was capable of both the heaviest, nastiest guitar tones and the most serene and achingly pretty tones as well. He is my favorite guitarist.
Enraptured... Pretty much the music I want to hear as I slip out of this mortal coil... Mmmmm
I am blown away
This is how I like Fripp. Without vocals. Lovely.
Splendido, soprattutto il finale! (08:50)
Evocative and beautiful
At first I was bothered by the tone of the Ovations with plugged soundholes, but it's kind of growing on me. It sits really well in the mix when the full ensemble is playing.
Fripp más aya de ser un GRAN músico es un EXELENTISIMO ilusionista de la guitarra
Fantastic performance!
Beautiful, tt sounds just like the Mountain section from Hyper Light Drifter...
Amazing
Divino!
Thank - you .
So good!
I wish they played stuff like this on TV more often
I second that notion!
I'd love to hear this with gavin harrisons drumming
Very much agree!
Soothing to the soul...this music is!

FANTASTIC¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Could anybody please help me with he got the tone at 2:20. I love how it sounds like the mids are trying to break trough the gain
really heavy fuzz, a shit ton of reverb and i'm guessing more than one delay. and volume is really important as well
@@raulperez2308 thank you so much!!!
Mystikal enchantment beauty depth
Thank you for sharing this! Was wondering where I could get this concert legally. Haven't seen any copies available online.
there is a link in the description
+TheFluffyRoboUnicorn ofDoom yeah, it's audio only. Thankfully, they've posted the footage I was looking for in another video.
+Anthony Garone ohh ok, well nevermind then, I'm glad you found it

fucking wow!
Genius
spectacular
Chapman Stick rules!
Does he just use an ass ton of effects or is he just that good at sustaining his notes via feedback.

Une émotion
Qui me révèle comment s’installent les sens
Il me reste à me définir
Et à décrire pour observer encore plus
Les possibles me semblent éternels
Elles me réveillent pour que j’attrape
Ce qui m’est essentiel
Me précipitant au-devant de mes mains
Ce qui est intouchable
M’isole dans un centre qui irradie
Mes sensations sont alimentées
En réponse à l’existence
Je suis enfermé dans la transparence
Qui se répète
Pour basculer dans la durée
Qui persiste et décline le passé
Je me calme
Une autre émotion passe
Pour évoluer et s’inscrire dans mon être

That last bit sounds like the DOOM theme
8:47
Anyone have any ideas on how to make a guitar sound like 4:26 ?
