In this episode I talk about my own transition from pub player to competitive player and how I went about choosing my class. I also give you my thoughts on various classes so that you can choose the one that is best for you!

Highlander is competitive too... i chose medic and am joining iron nexr season(yes its a low league but i just started) i like 6s and highlander though, each have different metas.
I spent 50 hours learning the basics of rocket jumping before I even started playing soldier seriously. I cannot stress enough how important this is. Know your jumps, boys.

This video was great for me, even though I still play in pubs i felt like this video helped me a lot in figuring out which class to play when i do get into comp tf2. Pleas SLIN do more of this series.

you should also talk about highlander, bc lots of ppl dont only play 6s and heavy can be really good for new players as well

I have like 1000 hours on Scout and I've only been getting worse for the last 400 hours.
I think it's time to switch mains. :/
Scout isn't even fun to play, probably the reason I'm getting worse over time.

@@defunctaccount1944 Hard not to. I put 8 years of my life into this game and I've seen no positive progress. I still love the core game but I don't have any fun because I'm much worse than I should be and I keep becoming worse over time and I really don't have any extra time to play now that I started college 2 days ago.
Look man. My best advice is to take a break. Come back when you think "Oh man i really wanna play tf2 right now!" You can play different games, or do literally anything else. Tf2 isnt going anywhere but your studies and sanity are.
@@fastcow7013 Doesn't matter what I play, everything sucks. I don't have any reason to study when I don't have any reason to live either. Sanity has been gone for years

okay, slin i've been pubbing demo for two years now.
I think you should improve this series, we could use stuff like "How to get into the improvement mindset" "How to figure out what you're doing wrong, and actually fix that instead of continuing like normal like Kira does constantly" and especially "How to get into competitive play as a complete newbie/When are you ready to try out competitive". There's probably videos already for this, but I'm watching the newbie playlist and it's seriously lacking. Keep up the great content though, still appreciate everything you've done!
I haven't met a player who didn't try and main pyro at one point besides the top level players

So i started playing competitive TF2 recently, and I still can't find my main. I keep bouncing between Scout and Roamer. I consider myself good at both, and both are fun for me. I just can't decide.
That's great! That means you can play scout and soldier, choose the one you think you're better at and if you have fun equally with both.
probs talk about highlander man, since matchmaking will be out soon, hl will be the major game type for that, so it could be beneficial to go over that fam. besides that love the series

i "main" spy with 175 hrs and i can trickstab sometimes , but yeah, im actually pretty terrible

I am new to competitive, and I am not sure on whether to pick soldier or scout. I like the feeling of running around really fast and doing high damage shots and killing people as scout, but I also like the feeling of rocket jumping and shooting rockets into people. I don't know which class to focus on, since I really want to improve my game.

+Joe If you play in lobbies, you don't need a mic. In a team, a mic is essential for everyone
I want to ask you, Mr. Slim. I'm an Engineer main, Soldier second, and I want to know, is there a way for me to be an effective Engineer on a 6's team?
usually when the team is pushed back to last the scouts will do something called off-class. That would be a good use for engineer.
W0LFSKULLz Ok. I know the Engineer is basically a slower Scout with the ability to build buildings, but still, why is it ignored?
+Vincent “auradrak” Sissom It's about movement speed. You're slower than everyone else, so everyone has to wait for you before they start the next team fight. If they don't wait for you, it's 5v6. If they wait for you, it gives the enemy time to respawn, build uber, or regain other resources like health (or give them time to put up their own sentry gun). By playing classes with high movement speed, you give them less time to react. The slowest class on the team is the Medic.
There's definitely nothing wrong with holding last with engy situationally but if you decided to main engy in 6s, no one would pick you up lol
if you look at the 6s classes, the scout is fast, the soldier has rocket jumps, the demo has sticky jumps, and the med is decently fast. everything in 6s is movement based, but engineer is very slow

Good video, but you really should have gone over why Heavy, Engineer Pyro, Sniper and Spy are not played as often as Scout, Soilder, Demoman and Medic.
Because they are slow and they are jumped very easily in sixes

I've been playing tf2 for 3 years now with some falling outs but I still think I'm good at the game I'm just not very consistent with sniper and scout 800+ hours overall. I don't know what competitive level I'm at but I would like to know.
800 hours of tf2 might not be enough for comp

I consider myself a Pyro main, is there any way for me to go into competitive as my main class? Or do I have to settle for Soldier? I probably could with some dedication, but I'd like to know if Pyro can be effective.
not really in 6s. some situations on last holds. you could play exclusively pyro in highlander but highlander is kinda a shitfest sometimes

I have 324 hours and would use the degreaser, flare gun, and powerjack. Sometimes using a back scratcher instead.

Just 6s. Highlander is played much differently.

Can I main 4 classes? I can't decide between Pyro,Medic,Engi or Spy (I suck on spy).
You don't have to main anything. It's fine to have multiple classes you like playing, I've seen a lot of people who change their "main" all the time. It took forever until I settled on a main, Demoman, but I still love playing every single class, especially Heavy, medic, soldier, and scout.
+Jek Porkins (Mr.T) if you are choosing which class to play between those four in comp, I would recommend either Pyro or Medic. Pyro is the easiest class to start playing in competitive, but playing Medic will give you a much deeper understanding of the game mechanics, along with gamesense and positioning, but there will be a lot of pressure on you. Spy is probably the worst class for people new to comp or tf2 in general, due to its complex mechanics. I think everyone wants to main spy at some point, but once you realize that other classes are just as cool, you may change your mind.
