Lulu, I've watched hundreds of videos on transforming a suv into a camping suv. I have found this video with Laura as the most helpful FOR ME. I have had 4-5 different versions and all were uncomfortable because I am NOT flexible and crawling in on my knees was painful--knee surgery and I am pushing 80 years old. I had my bed on a platform and always hit my head on the console; tried lowering bed frame but still not good. So I have duplicated Laura's set up almost exactly and it is the bomb for me. I can get in using the seat I left up, move easily to the bed now on the floor, use the basement storage of the up chair, and lastly removed excess baggage. I thought I was going to have to stop car camping, but this has saved me. I also have not removed the seat as I don't need the space--at least at this time. Thank you and thank Laura.

I am so happy for you Carol! It is always a work in progress with the van, but I love my bed set up. I love that I can roll it up during the day or shift it around. I have changed my bins to drawers, it looks much neater, ha! I still do not need any more room, ha! Happy travels Carol!

I’ve been thinking about a small, simple sewing machine (forward, back, & zigzag) ever since I saw someone that took theirs camping to work on the picnic table & run it off of a small power station.
Yes, yes. Now ya’ll are talking my language! It’s my way of making gifts for people. Aromatherapy products is the other, but not quite do-able. But sewing I could handle.

Laura, I have been van camping for over 30 years. The last 11 in a Dodge Grand Caravan. Thank you for sharing your "space" with us!! Going to be some changes around here!! LOL!! I adore the mattress pad/sleeping bag idea. Since I am a senior now, leaving up a center seat will help alleviate some issues I am having getting in and out. In your travels, if you see a silver Grand Caravan with Kentucky license plates, come over and say "Hi". Best wishes and happy trails.

Hi, Lulu, so nice to meet your 'twin' (kind of😁) ! Laura is a real minimalist and it’s first time I think, I could do this, too, when I saw her sewing machine. So far I thought (never said!), that minimalists are a bit boring, just sitting in their empty spaces, thinking about, what they can throw away next… no books, no hobbies… but Laura is an example for having her 'little extra'. Haha: who is traveling with a sewing machine? Never met one…but met some people making fun of me, when they saw our tiny tent and a normal car with a bag of knitting and painting stuff and a bag of books… I like her ideas to keep warm and tidy! Would be interesting to hear where she’s traveling and why she decided to live full time in a van, if she likes to share. Her van is very nice , no chaos there ! I personally like decor and homey touches but hey whatever makes each of us comfortable.

I like Laura van how she can enjoy her van and the little room she adjust to I watch a lot of van life channels now and am amazed and am Alabama raised, but now am on the east Coast and am amazed how you can live in your van... Home on wheels.

I love this van tour. Simple and straight forward just as the van is. I'm in the process of downsizing my one riom into a minivan - before I was back in stiks and briks I had Toyota Hiace (my 3rd camper) the Mazda MPV Im moving into is the smallest yet.

Thank you for getting back to me. You really are encouraging me to lose weight. I have a camper and boondock and campgrounds. Love it! I have a Baja camper which is higher and w three season weather package. I pull it w a Jeep Gladiator so I may take backroads. I live about 5 minutes from Mt. Rushmore, in the Black Hills, but still it is a different life style than staying at home. Also getting away from chores. My husband has a four door Jeep Wrangler, I told him I may trade him for longer trips. I love the versatility of highway/trail and convertible top off and on as I travel. I just did a big trip to Az last Oct. Was able to be SPONTANEOUS for trails or top on or off. Thank you! ❤

I also made a bed with the egg crate foam along with the pad that came with my Coleman cot but I found it’s not quite enough cushion for me. I’m getting ready to buy a minivan, I like her set up, I need more room for my dog 😊, I camp in a crv for now.

I’ve been using the sleeping bad with egg crates for years! It’s absolutely the best option and cheapest too! Just in case anyone wants to know buy the full size because it fits perfectly when folded in half and you need 2 of them!
I like the set up except the potty is tooo close to the kitchen for my comfort. I want my food and utensils further away from my potty!😜😳😜
