Ned Rush is an infotaining universe of ideas for ways to make music, including areas of music production, music composition, sampling, synthesisers and sound design in software like Ableton, MaxMSP, Reason, and on hardware such as eurorack modular, Elektron boxes like the Octatrack and Analog Rytm, also visual art strategies using Jitter, focusing on music genres such electronica, IDM, glitch, jungle, breakcore, electro-acoustic, musique concrete, as well as discussing music via interviews and podcasts, and music performances via livestreams.
Shug and Shuf are controls for the shelving filter, like the dampening or tone parameter you see on some reverbs. In software reverbs you usually have access to more filter controls.
SHVG is the SH_el_V_ing filter G_ain. At 127 the filter is basically off, lower values mean more gain=more eq cut.
Which frequency the filter affects in the spectrum is set with the SH_el_V_ing filter F_requency parameter.
Basically the more you turn the gain and the filter frequency down, the darker the reverb tail becomes.
If you look at Ableton Live‘s reverb, in the „Diffusion Network“ section you see a high- and a low shelf filter. The high shelf filter with its controls for frequency and gain is basically what „Shug and Shuv“ are doing on OTs Dark Reverb.
Hope that helps.
alternatively, you can also modulate the same parameter (strt) with another lfo (sinewave). and scan back and forth through the whole waveform (Dep: 50%, Speed: to taste) Playback page: Strt @ 64.
I like cheating.... IN MUSIC! that cracked me up that did :D
amazing, more octa vids please!
Hm, this could be nice with some live sampling of pads too. Maybe set up a recorder trig and toggle through some MIDI tracks. Thanks for the tips! I’m having a blast now that I’m getting into this thing a bit more. What an amazing and creative machine.
Absolutely brilliant technique! I am gonna have a blast creating soundscapes, thx for posting! ✌️🎹🎶🎶
That was great. Thanks!
Great tutorial! Very inspiring - thanks a lot!
Nice idea 💡 good to see a different perspective on this beast of a machine
Very cool, I love your vids, they have a very nice flow and one can learn someting as well. It's a friendly fireside chat with Ned and the Octatrack.
Really inspiring
This was fantastic! Thx so much :)
Superb!
Fantastic tutorial, sound, effect and everything! I know OT is a beast and the learning curve is very steep but having these tutorials can help with the learning process! Really enjoyed this tutorial and please keep doing great stuff!
I found it quite easy to pick up.
Very creative, thanks for sharing this nice trick!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Sick af !
Nice one🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎧
see many octagran tutor this is the best
Great video, thanks for sharing! btw: Shelving Frequency and Shelving Gain (SHVF & SHVG)
Thanks.
You probably could need a pingpong delay with a modulating filter after and then some reverb after that :)
Instant Vapor Memory album generator
~9:45 kind of reminds me of tim hecker
MAN i was about to comment that. it sounds soooo "haunt me"
Wabbling
Wow man so cool. These pads are 🔥 is this from a samplepack?
Shuf - (high) shelf frequency
Shug- shelving gain
So shug 0 most reduction above the shuf value. 127 no gain reduction at the shuf lol
I need some help! I dont get it to work, I’m following every step, but i just get an annoying sound, I don’t get the sound at 2:58 what is happenning there?
Best done when your wav length is a multiple of 128 "grains".
@6:58
”but that’s ok, I like cheating...”
Wife raises her eyebrows
”...in music...”
she wasn't my wife anymore after this video.
That’s really interesting, but you are really in the dark...
