Hi Ned. Thanks for the video, I've had Octa a couple years. Know how to complete nearly all the tasks on it but I'm finding not really knowing how to use it. This video has given me a new lease of life, I can semi random make the back bones of tunes I actually want to listen to in a none labour intensive way, just the fun bit. I'm currently slamming break after break into parts/banks and can go back and try the different patterns with the different parts. Maybe one day I'll make a collection of the best ones that knit well and actually be able to perform. Cheers 🤙
good morning professor, I have been following your tutorials for a long time to learn your tricks, these are real lessons in style and technique, I thank you for all your teachings. I tried with oktatrak and I got a crazy sound. I will sample again to insert it in my tracks. Thank you very much. E.M.
Holy shit. I've had the Octatrack for less than a week and this tutorial was what I needed. Thanks so much. I have been trying to get the buffers to work like this and have been struggling.
Over clever 😃😃🤣 not for the faint hearted 🤣 But you’re display of what the OT is capable of is magical 👍👍👍👍 This video has to be followed very closely and the results with various loops could be amazing. Ofcourse it’s creativity and less musical 😁😆 It’s a defiance to take the OT to its extreme capabilities. Sometimes I wonder if Elektron realised what the OT can do 👍
WOW... and I thought I was actually understanding my OT. This is phenomenal. Opens up a world of new things to try out. Id like to request a video on Transposing on the OT, that would be a great help! Thanks.
Great tips here. I feel like I am a wizard for being able to somewhat follow what’s going on. Now I have to drop the amen break into the octatrack I’ve always wanted try learn some basic jungle tricks. Liked and subbed!
This is incredible. I just picked up a Digtakt as my entry point into Elektron workflow. I know it's a far simpler machine than the Octa, but I wonder how far it is possible to do something similar to this on it?
Just found this - very cool indeed, feels like this would be much more time consuming to do in a DAW. Got me thinking about how you might bring the crossfader into play in order to have some element of real-time human influence on the randomness.
You locking the first trig at slice one and zero LFO depth was a BIG aha! moment for me. Now I get it.. you can anchor some hits in place and the randomness and tweaking wont affect them.
When speed is at -64 you need to have length turned on in playback settings and it sets your ending start point. Not sure how it’ll work with live buffer sampling but give that a shot.
I've been using p-locks with the amen break on my Machinedrum UW to make Breakcore style percussion. It's not an Octatrack, but it gets the job done. Tracker software such as Fast Tracker 2 Clone is good for sample manipulation for start time, loops, etc...
@@NedRush That is right. But it also has the atomizer mode, where you can process incoming audio in real-time. You can loop it in sync with the tempo and create glitches. You can loop it, by pressing keys on the keyboard. The loops-size is 1/2, 1/4, 1/8… until 1/256… Also triples are possible and loopsize in the audio range. Also reverse-mode is available. And you can send that result into the superb FX processor which can be controlled by LFO1 and LFO2 and continuous controllers. So you could control the tempo-synced delay time of by the note-number or phaser amount by aftertouch. It’s a flagship. If you put the Atomizer on MIDI channel one, to process incoming audio, you have the other MIDI channels available for splits and layers, of a huge synthesizer featuring 120 voices, including Arpeggiator featuring multiple patterns. It’s a powerhouse for Trance and Jungle.
I must be on my 10th time watching this. And i'm realizing that you can record from a track that's turned down, but you can't record from a track that's muted via the crossfader min/max volume setting and a scene? i need to test this more (drinks beer). Cheers, Ned, and thanks for feeding my addictions.
Excellent session, thanks for the inspiration! Do you work 16 or 24 bit? How do you handle audio gain levels in the octatrack, what's your standard gain settings?
Sweet Jesus this is nice! Any chance you could send me the project you use after you cut out the slices you didn't want to use. I loaded up a bunch of amen breaks into me MK1, but i'd like to try to follow your lead better. Really good stuff. Keep up the Octatrack tutorials!
Hi Ned, love the videos. I have a question: where can I download the breaks used in your Octatrack videos? Are they all well quantized? I've been trying to load my own and automatically create the slices, it seems my break loops aren't quantized and it isn't working properly? Did you put them on Patreon? Cheers!
hi, the slices are not falling in the right place. however, I recalled the sample on my daw. Has this ever happened to you? I think this is related to my original tempo and trim lenght but I can't solve this problem. Thank you for your tutorial.
I watched this video and bought an Octatrack right after. Thanks for the inspiration. Don't tell the misses!
Thanks!

Imagine mapping the crossfader on top of that?? 😳 amazing mate 👌

Great tutorials m8.. very helpful to me..I just got two octatracks mk1 and 2 and learning them .. your videos are inspiring and helpful..thanks
So many lightbulbs went on while watching this vid. This is exactly the kind of thing I got the OT for. Thank you for sharing your process! 🙏
Holy shit. I've had the Octatrack for less than a week and this tutorial was what I needed. Thanks so much. I have been trying to get the buffers to work like this and have been struggling.
This video really helped me get a better understanding of the slice mode, it's features, and the capabilities. Thanks Ned!
very cool
I have a Rob Acid on vinyl. It's brilliant. Nice one!
@@NedRush thank you. big hugs

Super tutorials here! Love all the granular stuff !
Exactly what I was looking for - thanks for the clear explanation. I've searched so many OT videos for clear live sampling info with little luck.
Nice one ! I hope your well!
Your tutorials are honestly top notch man. Great content

Glitch drum solo. Love it. I know what I'm getting this Christmas :)
oh this is such a great tutorial!
Someone told me to check this out. ... and it’s nuts! I haven’t explored the re-sampling side. FRESH
If you’re at a loose end next Saturday tune into this. I’ll be doing a Octatrack resampling explosion. ua-cam.com/video/_WMx0X2NUCA/v-deo.html
This is explained very well and straight to the point. Very nice video!
Resample and mangle, amen!
You use The LFOS like an eight handed kung fu massage on the beat……. Wicked 🍻
Ric quit science stuff for glitchy breaks, love it!

2416 thanks man great tutorial, was looking to create those skee mask drum style
Great tutorial. I got the Octa to do more stuff with drumbreaks, and this exactly hits the spot. Cheers
eazyyy now my selectaaa, luv the amen break stuff !!
Again some AAA+ content... that channel is a gem

Thanks. I’ll look into it. I got it working previously but didn’t take enough note of what I was doing. Still finding my way round.

hey can u give me some tips how to fuck up drums on machinedrum?I love it but I need something more ehm spazzy?XD
Such micro slices on Drumloops are much easier to achieve in the access virus.
Eh?
@@NedRush I beg your pardon?
Isn’t access virus a synthesiser?

I see. Well, go do that then. 👍🏻
instructions unclear, beer stuck in record buffer
18:00 ragga
Genious! But is there way to do same with melodic / rhytmic bass parts?
Sweet !
can i get your permission to sample your sound effect you did at 1:09?
Wicked, more of it on patreon please! Maybe a tier on Patreon just for Octatrack users? Anyway, thanks for your great and inspiring work!

Do you have this template on your patreon?
Fun!!
hello at octatrack mk1 can i same make?
more jungle on octatrack pls !!! 🥺
Can this same technique be done with Model:Samples?

Look out for the Blue Mar Ten Jungle Jungle sample pack. It has all the classic breaks.
Sold!!!
Your speech is at 175 BPM too.

Very nice techniques, but it hurts my ears! Too bright.
