    Hi, I'm new to macrame. I have enjoyed watching your tutorials. I'm in the process of doing this wall hanging. I've watched this video 25 times. I've had to take my project apart 3 times. Would you please elaborate on how many berries per row? I've done the rope length in inches. My far left side, the last 4 rows b4 the very last are coming up with short cording. Would you please go in more depth with this video for beginners? Thanks. I'm enjoying your channel. I would love to complete this project. Any help you can give will be very appreciated.

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Рік тому +1

      Hi, the first row has 12 berry knots and then it's always one less for the next two rows, so 11 and 11, 10 and 10 and so on until you have only one berry knot in the last two rows. If you are running short with your cords you could do fewer knots at the top, maybe only start with 11 or 10 (unless you want to cut longer cords of course).

    • @annabaginova01

      Hi Jessica, there are certainly difference between braided and twisted cords, you can check out my video on cords here: ua-cam.com/video/9vGbMDy_VFk/v-deo.html. But I would say the difference is not that great and especially since you are using a 5mm cord as well I think it's safe to go for the same measurements. Maybe just a little bit longer for your twisted cords since the braided can be stretched more and you can't really do that with the twisted cords.

    Hi, I’m new to macrame and have done two basic projects, one with a leaf and one wall hanging using lark and square knots. Both projects were from two different UA-cam authors. Even though I followed the measurements very closely, I had so much cords left over in the end, which was a big waste. I would like to do this project, and want to clarify that I need 8ft to 18ft? The finished project barely looks 3 feet. Are the measurements correct? Thanks in advance!

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  2 місяці тому

      I get it, the leftover cords are very frustrating but so is running out of cords so I think that's why a lot of people will prefer to have longer cords. The measurements are correct - 18 ft are the longest cords, 8 ft the shortest. The berry knots "consume" a lot of cord and there are a lot of them on that one side so that's why you really need those cords to be quite long.

    LOVE this! I would like to modify it to be a window curtain, with the finished measurements being 28” wide x 36” long, however math is SO NOT my thing. And then having to convert from metric to imperial would definitely melt my brain. The use of a comma rather than a decimal (ie 5,7 m = 18,7 ft) only adds to my confusion. I am afraid of making an expensive mistake. Could anyone help me with instructions that a math-challenged American can follow? I would greatly appreciate it! TIA😊

      Hi Priti 🙂 well you could use the same measurements however the finished piece will be a bit smaller than mine if you are using thinner cords. Or the other option is that you add more knots to the top row to make it wider but then you will need to cut all of your cords a little bit longer, about 20-30 cm more for every extra knot you add to that first row. I hope that helps.

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  2 роки тому

      Thank you! Yeah, the measurements for that berry knot wall hanging are tight. The 18,7 feet is for the first set of two cords - so cut each cord at 18,7 feet. These then go on the very left side. I added up all the measurements to check and they do come to 319 feet (each measurement is added twice because you always have two cords at that same length). Did that help?

    hi there!
    thank you sooo much for this video :) my grandma wants me to do one like this, but 90cm long (overall, fringe included). and with only 10 knots in the first row.
    could you tell me if my math is correct? haha my cord is also 5mm.
    since I’m doing only 10 knots, my longest would be 5,1m (I just “ignored” the first 2 measures of your project). if 5,1m = 60cm in the finished piece, then I need 7,6m to have a 90cm finished piece. is this correct?
    or should I measure based on the shortest cord? then my shortest would be 3,6m... I figured I could just do a rule of three hahaha
    thanks again!!

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Rafaela,
      I am glad that you liked the video!
      So if you want to do 10 knots at the top and the total length should be 90 cm then you are right that you would skip the first two measurements and your first pair of cords should be 5,1 m + 60 cm. This is because the difference between my 60 cm of total length and your 90 cm is 30 cm but these 30 cm will be added only to the fringe section, the knot section stays the same. And then you need to multiply the 30 cm by 2 to account for the lark's head knot at the top. So the total length of your first pair of cords should be 5,7 m, I would suggest to make it 6 m just to be on the safe side. And then you would just keep removing 30 cm for each following pair of cords until you get to your shortest ones of 3,3 m.
      I hope this makes sense, please feel free to ask more questions if it's unclear ;) These calculations can be really tricky sometimes...But I am sure that you will make a great piece and your grandma will love it :)

      Hmm, that’s a good question and it’s something I struggle with too. I’m glad it doesn’t show that much 😁. I will keep this in mind and show this in one of my future tutorials. But basically I just wrap the cord about three times around the dowel and then make two knots at the back to tie the two ends together. You could also glue the short end to the dowel at the back to make sure it is not visible at all.

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  2 роки тому +1

      You're welcome! I think that should work given that you will also be working with slightly thinner cords. My longest cord was 5,7m but I think you can get away with 5,5 because you will also have fewer rows of knots if you want to create a square.

    Hi, if I use a 3 mm chord is it possible to realise this with no huge differences in final effect?

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  3 роки тому

      Hi Paola, well it depends on how you define “huge”. There will definitely be a difference in the final size of the piece. But there is a couple things you can do to make the piece a bit bigger. One is that you can simply make the berry knots more apart so there will be a gap between all of them. This will spread them more at the top and make it wider and longer as well. The second option is to add more cords (and berry knots) at the very top. But keep in mind that if you want to do this you will also need to cut your cords longer to account for the extra knots that you will be doing. You can check out my video on how to measure your cords if you want to do this second option ;) I hope this helped.

    I love this project. I made this but had problems with the final cords being different lengths. I tried cutting it to the shortest cord on the right but unfortunately it made it way too short on the left. I used braided cord but it didn't seem as plump as your cord was not as flexible. This may have been my downfall. I tried to compensate for the short cords by adding a row of cords behind it. Unfortunately because the color cord was royal blue and adding the additional cords it changed the whole look. Do you have any suggestions on how you would have tried to fix it. I didn't want to ditch the whole project. I would like to send a photo but can't figure out how to attach. 😮

    If I use 4 mm cord do I just add 44% to each length

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Lisa, you don’t necessarily need to add anything to the length but your final piece will be slightly smaller than mine because of the thinner cords (very slightly, 5 mm vs 4 mm is a really small difference). What you could do is add another knot to the first row to make the final piece larger. If you do that that’s when you will need to cut your cords longer (about 20-30 cm for each berry knot you add to the top row). I hope that helps.

    I’m new to macramé and I’m not a math person! So, What does this mean, 17, 7….18, 7ft so forth? In inches what does that equal, and is that the length of 1 cord or both?

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  Рік тому

      So for example if you put 18,7 ft into an online converter it should give you 224,4 inches. This is the length of the cord you should be cutting. I hope this was at least a bit helpful...

      @annabaginova01  Рік тому

      I know I am answering this kinda late so you may not need this information anymore but you can definitely do this with fewer or more cords, it just needs to be a number that you can divide by 2 😉

    Hi Anna...if I wanted to double this to 24 knots across would I have to double length of the ropes? thank you

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Barb, well, not exactly, it would be a bit more complicated than that because the length of each cord is made up of the length you need for the berry knots and the length you need for the fringe and those two are not increasing equally....You would basically be adding another set of 12 knots in the first row on the left side of this. So you would still have this pattern that I made with the initial 12 knots and so your berry knot length would stay the same for that initial set but your fringe length would need to be longer on all the cords. And then for the other 12 knots across your berry knot length would have to increase while the fringe length would be the same as it was for my pattern. Complicated 😅 I don't know how to write it so that it's more understandable. But maybe my video on measuring cord will help you ua-cam.com/video/Eah8xMSfPyI/v-deo.html&lc=Ugz8omdFkCn2stsA3D14AaABAg

    Can I get clarification on measurements below. I read the first line as cut one to 18ft and second one at 7ft. Is that correct? So I actually have five 7ft cords at end and they all go on right side of dowel and so on. Seems like I maybe read it wrong

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  3 роки тому

      So both of the first two cords you should cut at 18,7 ft. (they will go on the very left side of the work), then the next two at 17,7 ft., the next at 16,7 and so on as in the description until the last two cords which will be at the very right you will cut at 7,9 ft. Did that help? I know these measurements can be tricky sometimes so feel free to ask further if needed.

    • @annabaginova01
      @annabaginova01  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Asmita, so if I understand you correctly you want to do all the filler cords in one color and the berry knots in another? That is quite tricky to calculate as the berry knots are in the alternating pattern so every other knot would still be done by the base color. I would think you can cut the cords maybe about 30% shorter than what I have in the description. I hope that helps

    Great video… I know it’s over a year old. The cord you’re using looks great… unfortunately the cords you suggested aren’t as good as the one you seem to be using. Yours looks like it maintains its shape as far as the diameter of the braided cord looks. The ones you suggested come flattened, so it tends to twist as you braid the shape… it comes out ok, just doesn’t finish as well as yours for some reason. Yours looks perfectly round all the way through the length of the cord.
