after seeing two straight dudes talk about an LGBT film with this much respect and interest, literally had to subscribe. well done lads!
A. rozn. fair call mate! i haven't even seen the film yet. was simply saying i respected these two fellas taking this LGBT movie seriously as a film and reviewing it as they have other non LGBT movies. wether it's good or not, different story haha.
A. rozn. It's not wrong just because you say it is
The book is terrible and not at all a 'gay love story' indeed I found it to be in a way borderline homophobic. It was a SHIT book, written by a straight guy looking to be 'edgy' at best. Shame this movie is getting this kind of hype
mitchell page lol that's why I subscribed.
are they straight?
I would be so excited if Sufjan Stevens wins an Oscar for best song and best score.
I doubt it would qualify as original score, it's more a selection of pieces and other songs.
I HOPE SO!!!!
Ah. You are correct. Score would not have been Sufjan.
I kinda thought they were boyfriends. LOL
I hate to say but if the Globes told us anything it tells us that this film has huge competition with more established actors and directors and such to get any awards ughh
It's oddly strange but very satisfying to see straight men very eager to see an lgbt film.
melvin tayko I am such a fan of the 21st century. There's a lot wrong with it, but then there turns out to be some bright spots that make it a bit better. ☺
I don’t see this as an lgbt film but a story about two people falling in love. You fall in love with a person, not a gender. At least that’s how I felt it was like for Oliver’s character. I cannot wait. I’m Driving two hours through the California fires to watch this film.
From the film making stand point this movie is out of the world. The editing, angel, etc are oscar level. So yeah. That s why lots of people are vert enthusiasts tocwatch it.
It isn't that much abour lgbt, it has deeper meaning
@@vales4366 The main theme is homosexuality. It's about a teenage boy coming of age and his first homosexual relationship, and exploring his own body.
The last scene of the movie will stay with you for a long time beyond the movie. It's ingrained into my memory for the rest of my life, hyperbole intended.
It's so refreshing to see straight men so openly and positively talk about a gay film. Kudos to you guys! I wish more straight men would be as accepting as you two.
stop praising straight white men for just being decent
7292889363
thanks for not being homophobes :)
David Ringlein what
+David Ringlein
I will most definitely call "our creator" a homophobe if they hate gay people :)
Why would they be calling 'our creator' homophobic?
BigDeanoSyd
when I used the word “they” I was referring to the creator
saw this movie this afternoon and it struck a chord for me for several different reasons. The first and foremost I was a year younger than the main character when I had my first gay relationship and I remember the confusion and the huge hole that was left when that relationship came to an end. This movie brought right back to that time. It was the most critical time in my entire life up until then.
Two straight guys pumped for a LGBT themed film...HOT! Real men are HOT!😍 Especially their love for cinema and art is prevalent and contagious. These guys should be doing more than reviewing films, but making them. At least co-producing. So much passion.
@Curious ships - who says they're straight? I think they're a couple.
They're not a couple. They said in a Q&A that they're just friends.
J Gaja Genuinely could've sworn they were brothers tbh. Very alike
I thought the same thing, even fraternal twins. So..if they're not brothers, I can have them both?!😗🙈🙊
I actually thought they were brothers too :O
I've just read the book and its a masterpiece. I did not expect to be so moved with a story like this and I'm very excited and nervous to watch it when it comes out.
demacto13 the film will move you as well, I guarantee. It captures the essence of the novel ☺
Hey, here did you find it. I've been looking for it and I couldn't find the book.
Later..
How abt them at the end.. sad end or happy end
demacto13 I wiped this great movie by mistake after 5 times watching it. Please send it to me. With love xxxx
The age of consent is not the same in all countries. In Europe it is often younger than the USA, just like the drinking age is usually younger.
A. rozn. Read the book.
A. rozn. Read the fucking book.
A. rozn. You are everywhere go read the fucking book and the consent age in Italy is 14, so?
READ THE GODDAMN BOOK i felt the same way too before I read the book but it changed my mind
A. rozn. The guy looks way older than 24 and the kid looks about 12 lol, think the guy is well in his 30s, why not pick a younger actor
Particularly proud about it. This movie was almost entirely shot in my town...and seeing such familiar places in such a movie makes me even more curious about it.
Awesome review guys! But for those saying this is pedophilia, it is not. Elio is 17, Oliver is 24, and the age of consent in Italy is 14. Even here in Canada it's 16, I don't understand the confusion. There is no imbalance of power, Elio is very mature for his age, it's not like Lolita where it's about the disgusting hunger of a person in the wrong, it's just meant to tell a story.
Exactly! (Well said.)
whatever soever that is why we don't have to wait until the age of 21 to enjoy a beer with friends and we are even allowed to show it in public
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ephebophilia
I have never heard the word Ephebophilia used to describe Dirty Dancing, or Rose's engagement in Titanic. Does it only apply to males? Yeah, I thought so. There could be a word for a preference for age 20-25 as well. Words are irrelevant. What matters is whether something is legal or not, and this is legal, in nearly all western countries and states.
It's 18 in Canada you cow
my heart is honestly hurt by the amount of hate comments in the comment sections everywhere this video has been uploaded.
Zachary Becker me too..
i don't think criticism considers calling homosexuality a pedophilic abomination but like tell me if I'm wrong.
safe space what are you even saying
Let it be, mate. That "safe space" keep on spreading hate comments under the fans' comments. That "safe space" can't explain why films like Titanic, The Reader, American Pie, Ghost World, etc., aren't criticized as they involve the plot of the relationship between teenagers and over-20 persons. "safe space" = pathetic hypocrite.
Zachary Becker Hi. I don’t usually post comments on UA-cam because, you know, people can be a bit abrasive and downright stubborn sometimes. But because I feel exactly the way you do (I’ve read the book and am looking forward to the film with so much excitement) I am going to give my take on the “Pedophilia” and “Statutory Rape” comments.
There is one essential element in the story-telling of the book that we don’t see in the trailer (hopefully it’s not missing from the movie too). I cannot point it out in any other way than to ask the question: Where exactly in the timeline of the story is the story being told? The easy answer is it is being told more than a decade and half since everything happened. Elio is a grown up man now, looking back to what took place one summer long ago in Italy. Sure, this does not change the fact that it still happened when he was under 18-on which many laws would indict Oliver of rape. But we have to trust Elio, both the 17 year-old intellectual and the wise man that he is as he tells the story: 1.The 17 year-old never felt like he was raped, if anything he felt he was loved, for the first time, by someone other than his parents; 2. The wise-man-present-day-version of Elio would also know he was raped, if he was-he might deny it because he loved/loves Oliver, but he still would know. But for Elio, who has gained wisdom and maturity over the years, it was nothing like that at all. And that is what’s important.
Or maybe we are all so eager to defend something that does not need defending. Maybe the story was really challenging this norm like it challenges other norms. Maybe some questions, among many other questions, that novel really want to ask are: Does age equate knowledge and wisdom? Does knowledge or wisdom or both equate our readiness to love? And finally does age speak of our capacity to love and readiness to be loved? I don’t think it promotes pedophilia because it does not tell the story from the POV of Oliver (it would be easier to determine regardless of whether Oliver denies it or not), it does so from the POV of Elio and therefore what Aciman might be telling us is that the young people know what love is, even if they don’t know what exactly it’s called.
Or maybe there is no hidden meaning or hidden agenda at all. The age is just is. It may be scandalous. But Aciman was courageous enough to make a point that just because it’s taboo does it mean a beautiful story is not going to be told.
Sorry for the TL;DR post.
Haters gonna hate. But I think no one complained about the relationship of the characters Jack (who was 20) and Rose (who was 17) in "Titanic", then why are you hypocrites complaining about "Call Me By Your Name"? You poor haters.
safe space You are entitled your opinions. It's your right and it's good for you, truly. But there were almost no complaint about the relationship between older person and teenager portrayed in internationally well-known movies like Titanic, American Pie movies, The Reader, etc. If you dont like it, dont read or watch. By the way, you can write your own comment about your opinion, it will be better and in my opinion, it can attract people who have same opinion as yours. Bye, Felicia.
safe space No..no, no need to apologize. Next time, instead of labelling LOVE STORY with your cheap words under someone else's comment, stay in your own HATE lane with your own narrow-minded losers. You can't deny about millions of people around the world who praise and love Titanic, American Pie movies, Ghost World, The Reader, Memoirs of a Geisha, Oldboy (South Korean film), An Education, The Reader, and so on. As long as the laws of the country are legal and both parties give consent, there is nothing wrong. Most of the 18-yr old kids (except from teetotalers) from USA drink alcohol in the UK and its legal. Oh, yes, you will say it's drinking, not sex. And i'm not talking about sex, i'm about consented love-making between two people who are legal in the particular country. Again, no need to apologize. Because some apologies are despicably worthless.
safe space >>> Even after editing, your comment still has errors like your brain and your heart. It is your business to call whoever out, and I'm not the one who arrogantly and pathetically arguing with useless prejudice under someone else's comment.
safe space >>> Maybe you are talking about that subject (i never use r-word) because maybe that particular r-word you used is 'you'. Hypocrites all do that. Poor hypocrite, still can't figure out what is consented love and what is r-word. And still can't still fight back why other famous films depicting relationships between 17-yr olds and adults weren't criticized before. Bye, Felicia.
20 and 17 is a three or possibly almost 2 yrs difference, this movie has it at ten years and the guy looks way older than 24
By the way, the screenplay for this movie is written by James Ivory, part of the famous Merchant-Ivory team which made movies like HOWARD'S END, A ROOM WITH A VIEW (which features one of Daniel Day-Lewis's earliest roles), THE REMAINS OF THE DAY, and many more. Ivory directed all of the said movies.
oh wow, i didn't realise he was still active, such a talented gentleman
Don't forget MAURICE, filmed in the eighties and still one of the most important and most beautiful films depicting male homosexuality. Sadly James Ivory's long time life partner Merchant had passed away 12 years ago.
...as well as Maurice
fine films, Howards End my own favourite of the 3
UPDATE: Ivory won Best Adapted Screenplay for this, becoming the oldest ever Oscar winner.
I'm so glad you guys are excited for an LGBT film, and you didn't make it about the "gay" stuff but the quality of everything that went into it.
Your reactions to this trailer made me so genuinely happy.
Ahhh! I'm SO happy you guys loved the trailer and are soo excited for the film as well! Can't wait for the review :)
"THAT SHOT!" my same reaction!
After watching your reaction to the trailer, I immediately subscribed to your channel, and binge-watched close to 50 of your videos. I have watched the trailer myself multiple times a day since its release, and found many other UA-camr 'Reaction' videos from it horribly insensitive and unfortunate.
This is the only film reaction/review channel I have come across, wherein you can clearly feel the emotions radiating off the reviewer. It is such a huge plus that you keep it so absolutely positive and, frankly, HUMAN, that I'll be championing your channel from here-on-out. The sincere love for cinema you two have comes across beautifully.
So, what I guess I mean to say is thank you.
In regards to the trailer itself, I've been following this film since its inception- I've read the book, fell in love, and cannot wait to fall in love with the movie, too.
Keep on being spectacular, you groovy dudes!
Absolutely brilliant movie:actors director, story. BRAVO!!!!!
One of the best movies I've ever seen. Timothee Chalamet is an incredible actor. He would get the OSCAR for his performance as Elio. Soundtrack on point! and I can't say anything about Luca Guadagnino, I admire him so much.
Good video guys, first time watching you.
before commenting anything about this movie, this trailer and this story, you should read the book.
Exactly!
Then this movie sucks already, you have to read the book, not even before you see the movie, but before you can even voice your option on the trailer? Get the fuck out of here. The movie is very clearly trying to spark social commentary and divide, its well aware people are going to love this and people will hate it just for the age gap. if this movie is worth its salt, you'll walk in a nay sayer of minor/age-gap dating and come out, with a different opinion on the matter because you enjoyed the film. if the film can't do that without you having to buy the book than its fucking garbage straight out of the gate.
The book is shit and not really a gay love story. more like weird, obsessive gay sex and then (atleast one) moves on to his heterosexual lifestyle and that is borderline glamorised. Shit.
matt colins So sad for doing this to your life, sweetie. You seem so sad.
I think you just read the wrong book
I really can't get over with this movie for a couple of weeks already. I was able to know about your channel because I've been watching all related videos about this movie! Hoping for a sequel soon! Much love to you both!
i watched this film at the melbourne international film festival - such an experience watching that film has made me appreciate so much more the art of film. the soundtrack is absolutely beautiful as with the visuals.
Great video. I have to admit, I wasn't expecting this movie to show up on you guys' radar. I'm very pleasantly surprised.
+cinephan Anything with that gets good reviews falls on our radar within a matter of hours. The joys of Metacritic 👌
The music that's used in the film is absolutely beautiful and is used so well. You'll definitely love this one
I love your reactions guys, you two are so sincere, and also have such a knowledge. I'm always happy to see your notifications pop up on my screen.
Btw I'm never sure what time is It in there for u, I live in Brazil and it's afternoon here haha.
Not only are these guys super handsome, but they come across as very intelligent too.
DIG YOU GUYS , you speak my language , your love and passion for the arts, in movies, especially your recent review , Appreciation for projection and acceptance of the essence of the existence, of the human heart ! LOVE .PEACE.WISDOM !!!
Damnnn, I loved this reaction. So genuine. I loved it so much, subscribed!
You guys are best!!!!! Keep up the great work.
After watching your reaction to the trailer, I immediately subscribed to your channel, thanks for been smart people.
That was fast! Lol I had just seen this trailer requested in your last video earlier today!
I viewed the film after your review recommended it and I’m so glad I did. This movie will stay with me for a long time.
OMG awesome reaction!! especially the dude on the left xD
Recently,I have opened this amazing movie and today your amazing trailer reaction!!!!🤗thank you!!!
Why am I just finding your youtube channel now?!?! Love your content.
Why are these guys so smart godamn.
Why would God damn it? Why would He damn anything?
More well informed than smart
There's something magical about your reaction, both mouths open and something between emotional and impressed.
At 17, you have figured out who you are in a sense and are your own person. This character is not fucking 3 or 10, there for it is not pedophilia, he is not a child. At 17 you can consent, Elio is the one actually actively going after and coming onto Oliver, Oliver the 24 year old, has not been doing so, he has actually been pretty wary of it, because he is aware of how it would look. At 17 you know what you want and what you are attracted to, or you have that idea. I am actually tired of people who have not read the book, and have only seen the trailer and formulated an opinion with out all of the information, and saying it pedophilia. He is not a child. He is not naive, or impressionable. He knows what he is doing, and he's actually very self ware and extremely intelligent.
I've never met a 17 year old who had "figured out who they are" at that age. I certainly hadn't, and obviously Elio hadn't either. He might be precocious and intelligent, given that he's the son of two academics, but there's nothing to suggest that he has the emotional maturity to handle a relationship with an adult. While I don't think pedophilia is the right word to use for this, it definitely was Oliver's responsibility to keep his distance from Elio, and instead he took advantage of him. It's a complicated situation with a lot of morally grey areas, but you shouldn't equate intellectual maturity with emotional maturity.
All this being said, I'm a huge fan of the book and I'm incredibly excited for the movie. I guess my interpretation of the story isn't the popular one, but I'm interested to see how this relationship plays out on screen.
I really don’t understand any of this ‘uproar’ either! Where was all this when Titanic depicted a 17 year old girl Rose engaged to a grown man falling in love with another? This is ridiculous.
Roberto Goldschlager I’m gay, friend. I don’t know where this is coming from, but you should try reading my comment again. Or go outside.
@@jonahkarlin6470 Sorry, Jonah, if I offended you. There are so many people, especially in the US labelling things, pigeonholing relationships and using wrong language to express their very subjective not very humble opinion, that sometimes one gets the wrong impression.
Thanks for reacting to this, I love the fact that you guys love films for how they are made and not care that it's a gay romance. I always thought that film makers would hesitate in making movies about lgbt romance because it would only appeal to the lgbt community and nothing more. I hope this will be amazing and well recognized too when it came out.
I haven’t really seen these kind of reaction videos earlier but I realley enjoyed your reaction and review and knowledge. My favourite part of the film is actually the last scene by the fire place. Absolutely spellbinding. Thanks!
you guys are so passionate, and how you admired the shots and composition, I want to see this movie with you guys haha to go to the movies with someone this passionate would be the best experience.
This is a modern masterpiece! I saw it at the NZ intl film festival and it's my favorite film of the year so far. I'm sure you guys will absolutely love it :)
This is the best early 19th birthday present, since it comes out exactly a week before. November 24th can't come fast enough for the states.
Damn. You guys need to start a film school, so I can attend. Love hearing your opinions and learning new things from you guys in each video. Definitely going to check out more of Guadagnino's work.
I am so ready for this film, too! And I'm sensing a new modem classic here.
Ok, but what's the trailer song? I'm gonna die if I don't find it
mystery of love by sufjan stevens. it's an original song made for the film
is it out yet?
I love the song too so much
Tokyo listen to other Sufjan Stevens music while you wait!!! He's so incredible
This is probably the best reaction video. No talking in between, no pausing.
This is still their best reaction by far.
It feels they fell in love with the movie just watching the trailer.
I love this film. And Honestly this is one of the best trailer I've ever seen in my life.
I appreciate your commentary. Like you, I can't wait until the movie is available to the public. Thank you for your inspirational thoughts on this film.
The film is actually gonna have music from Sufjan Stevens whose music you heard in the trailer. :)
and who is fucking amazing. Perfect fit, I think.
Yes, what a find. So exciting Sufjan worked with this film.
LuisCalle98 What's the piano music, though?
Not sure. It could be Sufjan, he does do beautiful piano pieces also.
piano music is Ravel's Une Barque Sur L'ocean :)
makes me very happy how much you like this.
The music is gorgeous. It pierces in my heart and in my core. With all the reviews, it will go down as one of the most unforgettable movie in recent momories. Truly a knockout masterpiece.
I am just as psyched as you guys are. Frankly, I'm not familiar with the director's work but I am familiar with James Ivory's work. I've seen A Room with a View (as well as reading its source material) and Maurice which are both amazing. I've also read Call Me By Your Name twice already and it is phenomenal. And I just saw this trailer a million times and I'm blessed. I can't wait to watch this brilliant adaptation (I've heard such great things about it).
I'm sorry, but the film actually does have music. It will feature an original soundtrack by Sufjan Stevens, who is amazing by the way. So there will be music.
I heard Sufjan Stevens is doing the soundtrack. Great reaction btw, can't wait for this either!
Great review guys. I am looking forward to the film as well. Definitely subb and looking forward to more reviews and reactions.
I'm prob gonna have to drive down to LA for the premier. I only know if two theaters that are showing this on release. Both are in two different states and none in Oregon :-/
my all-time fav movie and book. plus the music in the film is phenomenal
I saw this film yesterday. It's AWESOME! Luca & Co have adapted Andre Aciman's book brilliantly. Armie & Timothee have a natural chemistry which enhances their great (& heart felt) performances. There also is great humour in the film. My LOL moment would be the over talkative couple at the dinner table. Keep an eye on Elio's parents, particularly Elio's Dad.
On another note, Moonlight is the most perfect film I´ve seen since Fury Road and Whiplash (yes I still had not watched it). Absolutely outstanding cinematic achievement, so simple yet so perfect. Not a single flaw. One of the best oscar wins ever if not the best. The diting, the atmosphere, the casting, the story...
Hi Sany, we don't see eye to eye yet again - in my opinion Moonlight was slow burning with disappointing abrupt ending when events finally heat up.
But when it comes to old(er) men romancing with adolescent boys Italian movie David's Birthday (Il Compleanno) from 2009 has all the right ingredients. The build up, crescendo and decrescendo in this film are rarely seen on great screen.
I´m sorry but this isn´t a soap. This is a quality film with art. It´s not about spectacle. And as you can see by the outstanding 99/100 score in a site like Metacritic and the way all reviewers and award season have loved it, you seem to be in the very little minority :) This was damn perfect, there are so many things that have to go well in the making of a film. This has 0 flaws. It´s absolutely outstanding. maybe I knwo too much about films now. Why should a film end in decrescendo? Anyway, I don´t like to mix the soap world and the film world because I don´t acknowledge in this other field people who believe Ryan Hawley would play a great James Bond lol. Cheers!
Your condescending tone made me laugh a little, and you are the one bringing soap world into this. I'm certainly not an amateur when it comes to arty films, and I've definitely seen far better movies than Moonlight. Awards speak nothing to me, especially Oscars. If it had been a European film it would only be slightly above average but since it has Hollywood's stamp of approval it is an extraordinary cinematography.
If you read the book you would know that the lines on this trailer are actually on the book!! I'm so excited for this ...
James Ivory! Ding! A Room with a View...one of my all time favorites ;-)
there isn't a score, i don't think, if that's what you were wondering but luca did ask sufjan stevens to write music for the film! three new sufjan stevens songs are featured (an instrumental of "futile devices" and two unreleased songs). also, i know "love my way" by the psychedelic furs is in one scene, along with a piano piece from the novel i believe. this movie is going to wreck my unprepared ass and i can't wait !!!!!
I still get goosebumps and my heart aches every time i react to the trailer. It's just the best movie i've ever seen.
I got to see this at NZ film festival. It does have music and the music was curated and done by Sufjan Stevens. It's very sparse the music but where it is in the movie is perfectly done. This whole movie should see it picking up a few awards during awards season
why i'm i crying? over a trailer and I saw this movie already....multiple times.
Actually, there is some music in the film so I have heard! The song from the trailer is used and another one too (both by Sufjan Stevens) not sure about score though
So beautiful and heartbreaking. The scenery, music, and obviously acting are top notch.
I love you guys!
Lol 5 degrees Celsius is "really cold"?! Not where I live, in the winter!! (Saskatchewan Canada)
love this so much until now im waiting to appload here.
"an emotional kickass experience" - saw this film at a film festival and that's a good description
wow, I agree with you guys, looks like a phenomenal movie. love you guys and your channel.. Thanks. :)
Ugh where have you guys been!
Do you have link of this movie? please help me. Thanks!
Tell us more about the composition of that night scene with Elio and Marzia please.
it'll be interesting to see the (eccentrically written and confused) book brought to screen.
😱I am in awe of the film & cinematography. The whole "first love" is ssoo intense. Oscar? Golden Globe? Yes!!
I know I'm late with this comment but I saw the movie last week and I am in love with it. I always wait and choose movies I want to watch. It does hit the spot.
I can't wait for it 😀😀😀 it's gonna be great
Where can i watch the movie??
Sufjan Sevens wrote 3 songs fro this film and got an academy award nomination.Music was stunning
What a good review of call me by Your name i am so mad about this film that i agree with everything they say it is one of the best films i have seen in a long time i have the book the sound track album and the film i just love everything about this film and well done on a good review
Very smart guys 😍. Love them both.
Could not be more excited. You should react to Love, Simon
Anyone know where I can watch it?
Two gorgeous Aussie brothers. Way to go, lads.
Great review as always guys. The both of you have analysed this piece of art without prejudice and that is refreshing in itself. This is not porn so the vile negative comments and hatred that seeks attention is misplaced and strangely is always brought to the forefront by the most insecure of individuals.PS:I could watch the both of you even if there were no sound present :) as your love for moving art always shines through!!!
This movie destroyed my heart in the most beautiful way
Beautiful trailer.
(This isn't meant to be mean or anything just informative)
The way you're supposed to pronounce the director's name is : Gwa (as in "guacamole")- da- 'ni (as in the right pronunciation of the sound 'gn' in the word "gnocchi")-no
That song is fucking AMAZING and the book is just as good!
What is the name of the song?
You should read the book too it's amazing!!
Read the book and watch and review The Way You Look as well. A little Brazilian movie 😀
A Room with a View!!! Classic.
The music is composed by Sufjan Stevens!
i need to know the name of the piano piece that plays at the beginning of the trailer, pls anyone
CHECK THE original soundtrack on spiffy
Spotify
Opens in the UK 10:00 tomorrow and I'm booked in! Guys, check out 'Gods Own Country' too - set in a much bleaker climate (Yorkshire) but another really lovely gay love story with a happy ending, too!
