  • Lynton is a charming seaside holiday town located in the heart of the Exmoor National Park in Devon, England. It is a popular tourist and holiday destination due to its stunning natural beauty, rugged coastline, and charming Victorian architecture.
Here are some reasons why you should visit Lynton:
Scenic Beauty: Lynton is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and has some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the UK. Visitors can enjoy the rugged coastline, dramatic cliffs, and sandy beaches that are perfect for long walks or just admiring the view.
Victorian Charm: The town is home to a number of beautifully preserved Victorian buildings, including the Town Hall, the Methodist Church, and the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway. These buildings provide a glimpse into the town's rich history and are a testament to its cultural heritage.
Outdoor Activities: The Exmoor National Park offers a range of outdoor activities, including hiking, cycling, horse riding, and fishing. Visitors can explore the park's stunning natural beauty and encounter wildlife such as red deer, Exmoor ponies, and rare birds.
The Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway: This is a must-see attraction in the town. The water-powered funicular railway connects Lynton and Lynmouth, offering a unique and exciting way to travel between the two towns. The railway has been in operation since 1890 and is the steepest and longest water-powered railway in the world.
Festivals and Events: Lynton hosts a number of festivals and events throughout the year, including the Lynton & Lynmouth Music Festival, the Lynton & Lynmouth Arts & Crafts Festival, and the Lynton & Lynmouth Food & Drink Festival. These events offer a great opportunity to experience the town's vibrant culture and local traditions.
In conclusion, Lynton is a beautiful town with plenty to see and do, making it a perfect destination for a relaxing getaway, holiday or an active outdoor adventure. Whether you are interested in exploring the town's rich history, admiring the stunning scenery, or enjoying outdoor activities, Lynton has something for everyone.

@@GimbalWalkTV I lived in Barnstaple in the 80's in R.A.F accommodation at R.A.F Chivenor which is no longer. We went to Lynton quite a few times. I was told that the singer Elkie brooks lives there. Beautiful place. Love watching your channel. Superbly filmed!

On the right side of town hall is a short road leading to the Coastal Walk ( not coast path ) an interesting route to the highest part of Valley of the Rocks, perhaps an easier route if you have a head for heights.

The coastal cliffs at Lynton & Lynmouth are the highest in England. If you get chance travel through Lynton heading to Lee will take to the Valley of Rocks, it's beautiful, reminds me of the Highlands (on a smaller scale). The clifftop path from there takes you back to Lynmouth. The views are stunning if a little scary 😁

Ah I nearly went there too - I did wonder what valley of the rocks actually was.
The way it was signposted around the area it made it feel a bit like a theme park 🤣

@@GimbalWalkTV haha not quite. It's an open valley with lots of rocky outcroppings (including one that's a local legend, allegedly a witch was turned to stone!) There are substantial cliffs there with Castle Rock the largest (and a fabulous view if you take the steep path to the top). Ravens have recently returned there to nest to add to the crazy wild goats that live on the cliffs! 😁 Great videos keep up the great work.

Stunning place, I went on the train once, great fun, very steep, pity the poor horses and donkeys who used to pull it up and down though.

I can't believe this is 12 noon on a Saturday - where is everyone?! I know it's January.
I stayed in the area 20-ish years ago. I have been back since but the weather wasn't great and we didn't spend much time there. It is such a pretty area. I think it's looking better than I remember it back in the 90s.
Lovely video. Makes me want to return soon with my new walking boots!
