  • Looe is a picturesque holiday seaside town located close to Polperro and Fowey in Cornwall, England. Looe is a charming and tranquil holiday destination known for its beautiful beach, historic fishing village, and delicious seafood. The town is situated on the south coast of Cornwall, and its name is derived from the Cornish word "Loo" meaning deep water inlet.
One of the main attractions in Looe is the picturesque harbour. The harbour is home to a fleet of fishing boats, and visitors can watch the boats come and go and buy fresh fish from the local fishermen. The harbour is also a great place to take a stroll and admire the views of the sea and the surrounding hills. Additionally, the harbour is a great spot for boat trips and fishing trips, providing visitors with an opportunity to experience the sea and catch a glimpse of the local marine life.
Another popular attraction in Looe is the beach. Looe beach is a long stretch of golden sand that is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and other beach activities. The beach is also home to a number of rock pools, which are great for exploring and discovering the local marine life. Visitors can also take a walk along the coastal path, which offers stunning views of the sea and the surrounding cliffs.
Looe is also known for its rich history and cultural heritage. The town has a number of historic buildings and monuments, including the St. Martins Church, which dates back to the 15th century, and the Old Guildhall, which is a medieval building that was used as a court and a prison. Visitors can also take a stroll through the old town and admire the charming fisherman's cottages and narrow streets.
The town also has a thriving arts and culture scene, with a number of galleries and museums showcasing the work of local artists and craftsmen. The Looe Museum, for example, provides a glimpse into the town's history and heritage, displaying artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of the town and its people. Additionally, Looe has a number of festivals and events throughout the year, such as the Looe Music Festival, Looe Literary Festival, and the Looe Food Festival, which celebrates the town's local cuisine and seafood.
Looe also offers a wide range of outdoor activities for visitors, such as hiking and cycling. The town is located close to the South West Coast Path, which is a 630-mile coastal path that runs along the south coast of England. Visitors can take a walk along the path and enjoy the stunning views of the sea and the surrounding countryside. Additionally, Looe is located near the Bodmin Moor, which is a beautiful and rugged area of moorland that is perfect for hiking and cycling.
For those who are looking for a more peaceful and relaxed Cornwall holiday, Looe is home to a number of tranquil spots such as the Looe Estuary, a peaceful area where visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the coast and watch the boats come and go. Additionally, the town is home to a number of secluded coves and beaches, which are perfect for those seeking a more secluded and peaceful experience.
In conclusion, Looe is a charming and tranquil coastal town located in Cornwall, England. The town is known for its beautiful beaches, historic fishing village, and delicious seafood. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque harbour, take a stroll along the coastal path, and explore the town's rich history and cultural heritage. Additionally, Looe offers a wide range of outdoor activities and events throughout the year, making it a great destination for visitors of all ages and interests.

I lived in Looe back in 1970 when I was 13 (parents had a gift shop in Fore Street). It hasn't changed much and this video brought back lots of memories. I like that you don't spoil it with music or commentary so we can hear the sounds, including the pesky seagulls, which makes it feel authentic, thanks for that. Great video.

Really nice video, Looe is so beautiful, but best to go out of season, during school time, when its quiet. Oh the seagulls...try sleeping through their screeching at night during breeding season !!!
Hint for anyone visiting Looe by car, go across the bridge and on right hand side is a turn off, down very steep hill to a massive car park, but you can walk back up via a much gentler way. The prices for parking were really reasonable too.

I was there in the late 60's, four of us toured the south west listening to the Beatles ❤. We started out down the north coast: Ilfracombe, Clovelly, to St Ives (which we fell in love with) and we came back along the south coast where we fell in love with Looe, and then Brixham. The tent went up and down around 6 times. Looe doesn't appear to have changed much, it's more 'orderly' than back then ie the parking. I also remember the whaling boats coming in. Oh wonderful memories of wonderful times ..... ✌and ❤. Thank you for taking me back. 👍

I have amazing memories of a week's holiday in Cornwall as a child and, in particular, Looe. The day's visit to Looe seemed to last for ever, visiting the amusment arcades and dangling my legs over the harbour wall crab fishing for ages with my cousin. Then, many, many years later, I returned with my wife and little Westie hoping the place hadn't changed much. It hadn't changed one bit - even the arcades appeared the same...perhaps with a few more modern games, of course. For some reason on both visits, we never went down to the beach! (?)

Your comments make us laugh because we often are thinking the same things you say. Plus you get us watching for specifics like “which is the oldest building” ( though you don’t always tell… grrrr…we’ll have to visit Looe to find out!). We’re shopping for our own white trainers before our next trip.

Hello again, lovely clip again caught the atmosphere perfectly. Been lucky to have spent several breaks in and around Looe through the years, including one new year before it got so busy at new year ,it was lovely to see family’s with little kids and oak’s all out enjoying the time, remember that the only police I saw were parked in the car park by the bridge wishing everyone a happy new year as they walked back to their accommodation.also remember in season there was a rowing boat ferry going back and forth across river wonder if that still operates.also although mainly the buildings of west looe are more modern the older part of that side is well worth spending time wandering around with a nice pub tucked away in it .all in all a lovely place to go. Keep walking 😊your wanders bring back good memories now that I am unable to do it myself thank you

Thanks for sharing Neil, I have fond memories of Looe as a child with my parents. Looe is a beautiful Cornish town with many attractions, food and great fishing trips. The only thing I was disappointed with on my last rip was the element of happy hour and what that attracts that I saw, which reminded me of parts of Newquay town. For anyone new to visiting, don't let that put you off, it is a beautiful town and worth a visit. Also, be careful of the seagulls, they are crafty and bold. They think nothing of dive bombing you and stealing your Pastie and chips right out of your hands. There are signs saying don't feed them as it encourages them.

That stuff on the beach 24:33 is Kelp. a type of seaweed. It will have been torn from the seabed during a recent storm, and washed up onto the beach by the waves. As it bio-degrades, it gives the seaside air a distinct scent...

You ask in a later video about the state of the tide - here's a quick tide guide for beaches -
The sand above the most recent high tide is very dry and churned up by footprints.
If the sand below that is smooth and wet-looking, the tide is going out.
If it's dry-ish with some footprints, it's coming in.

The rocks at the end looked magnificent. Did you discover the hidden beach next to the main beach?
It is on the left side of the beach. I remember climbing up a step ladder over the wall and down the other side. There is a beach full of rock formations but no sand. It was very interesting and spectacular. But you would need some sturdy shoes on to walk among the rocks and rock pools. There was only me there on that beach and one other couple. I was hoping you would find it but it is rather discreet.

Ps the kelp is removed each year before Easter so visitors can have pristine beaches. Winter we get lots of storms down here so hence it builds up from October onwards.

Was curious about this town from watching “Beyond Paradise” which films there. It’s beautiful. Thanks for this tour. I’m an American dreaming about one day visiting all these wonderful places…Have you filmed anything in Port Isaac, Cornwall? That’s another town I would be interested to see.

I love Cornwall but have never visited Looe, although I keep saying I will. This video was just what I needed to convince me that I must go there. I love the no commentary & just the everyday sounds......including the seagulls. Keep up the good work Neil & thanks.
