as someone who loves that goofy egg dragoon boss theme this is such a delight. Hearing the original melody rearranged when I thought it was just going to loop got me so pumped

I agree that the hate on the Classic tracks in Forces is overdone, I personally would love to see them be remixed in a future game.
So it's no surprise that you did a great job remixing this for Sonic and Knuckles Alternate.
they're compositionally excellent but the soundfonts they use are.. awful- I have no clue what they're using but when you use actual Genesis sounds it's night and day.
I always liked the Egg Dragoon theme’s composition from forces, but the way the instrumentation was less than ideal. That being said, it was still one of my favorites. This just… takes it to a whole new level. I can’t even describe how good it is, it’s like all of my dreams of an ideal classic remix would sound like. You NAILED it. Great job.

The tone of this song reflects the unpredictable, and unstoppable nature of Sonic, and the showdown between him, and Eggman. I can just imagine Sonic rampaging through Eggman's creations like an unstoppable force, without fail, as the battle takes place, and Eggman is just trying desperately to destroy that hedgehog, but none of his attempts even get close to phasing Sonic. "Sonic. He's fucking my plans! STOP FUCKING MY PLANS!"
I like to think of Eggman as more of an actual threat in Sonic 3

honestly, I feel like the "Classic" Sonic tracks in Forces are decent compositions, but it's the instrumentation they chose to use that makes them fall flat (the same case for Sonic 4's OST). Using the actual Genesis sound format gives the songs the punch they need, especially the S3&K/3D Blast percussion
Considering Eggman as a character/role, this makes me think of a goofy melodrama villain.

To be fair I don't really think about whether Forces compositions are bad or not because I'm more focused on how awful the rest of the game is. I think this turned out pretty good though, so they must've done something right, or if not you certainly did!

@@johntayjinf I, candidly, can hear the flaws of this person's faulty MIDI at 0:58. The lead's notes correspond in length and are more staccato relative to the original. Still, I suppose I can dismiss this because having a "benefit of the doubt" mentality is a virtue nowadays on the internet. My apologies if you did not reference that MIDI and for being contentious (reprimanding you about not acknowledging what I initially suspected belonged to the creator). This is a decent amalgamation of various Sonic music, by the way.

I honestly love most of the classic tracks from Forces, I think more of the problem with them is the instrumentation; the melodies themselves are great! It's kind of like how the beta versions of the S3&K tracks sound good originally but the remixes made for Sonic Origins suck; the melodies themselves are great but the instrumentation in the remixes kinda kills them

Strangely, the original version of this battle theme is a bit weak, but the remixes are all strong. I don't think the remixes have ever been bad.

To be honest, I definitely prefer Naofumi's version over your own.
Don't get me wrong, yours was good for Knuckles and maybe the minor boss (I think??? Or maybe I hated the boss? I'll make an edit here when I DO listen to it again. Could just be the Death Egg that I liked.)
[Edit: Knuckles lacks the "wonky" part. I love what was done there, actually. However, the Minor boss I found to be very wonky. If you used SRB2's boss theme for that, however, I think they did it perfectly!]
But for early game bosses, it's just... _wonky,_ to put it blunt. I appreciated the additional motifs though, and I heard someone point out SRB2's boss theme, and I mean I SEE it. I see inspiration, but I don't KNOW.
[Edit: And I'm on the fence. Because I love SRB2's theme, and I always hear either that, or Naofumi's ED MKII theme. And I really LOVE how you composed their theme in this! It fits so well, I love it, ...it's a shame it's just UNDER REPRESENTED!]

Yeah nah seriously, this is too goofy. Egg Dragoon would've worked here if it had the relatively menacing tone of the OG Sonic 3's Boss theme. It worked great for minibosses because they were objectively stupid and didn't do much. This piece is too fast and doesn't set the tone for half of the Eggman vehicles are more slow and dangerous than before.
