I like how all the other thumbnails have Sonic 1 frame away from getting hurt or some other happenings and then there's this one which just looks like the Great Eggman Robo wants your liver.

I love how this song chooses to go down the RPG Orchestra path rather than rock n roll, which probably makes it sound menacing in a different but cool way nonetheless. The default Big Arms theme is menacing and tense, while this one is menacing but still has a glimmer of hope in the second half of the song. Love this stuff

This works perfectly as a "final" boss track, as like you said it's not really the end. I think it just has that feeling since it avoids the more strong chords that Alt Doomsday uses (especially the V-i).

I feel like the base Big Arms theme fits the original boss of Sonic 3, while this perfectly fits the final boss of Sonic and Knuckles. It perfectly encapsulates the slow, menacing movements of Eggman's giant mech thingy

It's actually quite fitting that you went down the orchestral route for this, since the final boss of Sonic & Knuckles is a bigger version of the Death Egg Robot from Sonic 2, which also had an orchestral-sounding theme. Might not feel like a true final boss, but it seems that was intentional anyway - and besides, that's what the Doomsday theme is for.
By that logic, this probably fits moreso for Mecha Sonic's first phase in Knuckles's storyline - grand and menacing enough to let you know that you're approaching the end, but not quite getting to that real climactic feeling, which lets you know that something more dangerous is on the horizon.
Just wondering, will Super Mecha Sonic get his own bespoke theme, or do you envision him still reusing the Doomsday theme from this alternative soundtrack?

Impressive stuff. It sounds like a gritty JRPG rather than a sonic game, but it's amazing.
This is giving me some Tatsuyuki Maeda vibes, specifically his work on Golden Axe III.
The first 14 seconds sound like the theme that plays before you fight Vile in Mega Man X
this boss is silly as hell, but you do your best to portray it as the exact opposite, like Eggman and his Big Arms are an actual threat
takes the skill of a god to make Eggman sound like someone you take seriously at first
Put this with the mod Eggman's Revenge in S3AIR and you've got it perfect.

I was so dissapointed that this was called the giant death egg robot (or something) in sonic origins. I would’ve called it the Egg Colossus.
I'd like to say my opinion on another of your sweet sweet tunes:
I've read your commentaries in video about difference in tone and genre between OG and Alternative Big Arms, and I wanted to say:
Both are awesome tracks, and it's great to hear some more orchestrated tunes in Sonic with that bombastic style of yours, but the final boss of S&K has that chasing Eggman sequence, and it doesn't mesh well with your track. But while S3 Final Boss isn't that grand, your Alternative version fits very well!!
Just look at it this way: Final frontier. Death Egg is heading right into dark abyss of clouds. Eggman is ready to start overtaking the planet, but you're still meddling with his plans. And no colossal robot nearby, so he's ready to fight with everything he's got. Epic showdown at the DE Platform is about to begin...
i actually would say the opposite and say that this actually works better with s&k, especially with the eggman chase, it's the feeling of "getting there but not quite", it's supposed to feel somewhat underwhelming. s3 is better off having the og, though i guess self-interpretations will be self-interpretations at the end of the day

@@Josue-fp1ylfunny thing: I tried to play Knux vs Mecha Knuckles Final bossfight with John Tay's Doomsday Alternate track... And it FREAKIN' FITS RIGHT DOWN TO THE BEAT. As if it was made in rhythm of the Mecha, Sonic's attacks. It goes together so cool, it isn't even funny
Something I feel like I should bring up: The message this theme conveys kinda poses a problem with Tails because well . . . he doesn't go to Doomsday Zone.

oh i ADORE this!!! it fits the giant death egg robot SO much more!!!! the only thing i think would feel kind of off is the chase segment.... the original Big Arms works so well for that part in particular...
This is a cooler track than the original. The original track was intimidating & is still a classic, but this track blows the original out of the water with the intimidation part. It seems more like the kind of song you'd hear on your way to the fight like you're getting closer to the conclusion of the story.

A very nice original flavor song for Eggman- but compared to most of your Retakes, I think this one really falls flat in capturing the spirit that defined the original Big Arms / Final Boss composition from S3&K.
I think this song really ends up getting lost in reflecting the character of Eggman and his more overt goofiness then the knife-edge, duel-like atmosphere the original Big Arms really embodied.
An extremely good composition on it's lonesome that falls flat in the context of the song its meant to be a retake of, at least so I think.
