Thank you for this video. I always love seeing where they hide the show elements during the day. Amazing how much tech is involved! This made my day! Thank you!
So amazing to see how the 'Fantasmic' tech team gets prepared for the show. It's cool to see the tech team be out on the Rivers & America & Tom Sawyer's Island and see how they pop up the speakers, lighting system, bring out the pyrotechnic barges, etc.. I don't know it just fascinates me 😊😳
Crazy that they replaced the spot ops with the new projectors. I'm still on the fence about the new additions. Fun facts: they had to open up an area in the side of the dragon lift to hide the magic carpet. Also, the stage manager's "call sign" is Fantasmic 1.
Awesome video, I have been waiting for someone to release videos of how they setup Fantasmic, this is great! It reminds me of the video Disney or some other source publish a video awhile ago of the tech team placing the dragon head, I would love to see you or another source show off the control room like a channel did for World of Color
If you look really closely on the CNET video that shows the control room for World of Color, for a frame or two, you can see there is a "Random crap that w..." folder on the desktop of the main video screen computer. XD
So what do they do to weatherproof the moving heads for Fantasmic? AFAIK For World of Color they are encased in a globe. What is Disney using for their newer fixed line arrays /point sourced ? Meyer? I know that old theater adjacent to Monsters inc are using old EAW's
The moving heads are exposed at Fantasmic. World of Color is a very wet environment, so they're required to use Tempest enclosures. As for audio, Fantasmic's main system remains the same: four stacks of two d&b audiotechnik J8s on top of two J-SUBs distributed around the main island. The delays are d&b audiotechnik Yi7Ps, which replace the Meyer Sound UPA-1Cs. The Hyperion Theater no longer uses an EAW KF861 array. They've since been replaced by the d&b audiotechnik V-Series.
It depends on the installation. Generally, they seem to favor Robe, Claypaky and Vari-Lite for their higher profile applications. I've also seen some SGM, Elation and High End Systems fixtures floating around as well.
I've never seen the show operate during the rain. That said, the fixtures do get exposed to moisture. The towers on the island are especially prone to moisture from the mist screens. The BMFLs on top of the towers are covered before they go into storage each night.
I think the speakers around the park are older and not built for the level of decibels needed to cover a show like fantasmic. They are fine for the normal background music. For shows like Fantasmic they bring in the Big Daddys
I'll never understand why they didn't leave Wayne Allwine's version of that line in the show. when Brett Iwan recorded the new dialogue, even HE was surprised that they asked him to re-record that line.
Didn’t each lighting tower have two tech crew members running follow spots back in the day? I have a distinct memory of seeing people in the towers, which is why they didn’t raise to show position until right before each performance began.
They actually start prepping around 5pm with the first show usually at 9pm which makes me think they added that announcement in the editing of this video for some reason
I really enjoyed this video, thanks! I subscribed, hoping you'll do more in the future. ;) Now if you're lucky enough to be able to, I suggest you to come over here in France at Le Puy du Fou. It's not your usual theme park, it's more a show-oriented place. And on a technical standpoint, it's AWESOME! They hid the speakers really well, yet they still have a wonderful (and spatialized) sound quality, and same for all the show elements such as lights or mechanisms. La Cinéscénie is the biggest show (you have to book like 6 months in advance) and has really some spectacular infrastructure.
I wish this video was longer. I love seeing all this behind the scenes stuff.

Thanks for watching, Travis.

That's cool. You don't see that at WDW as it's a whole separate area
Very cool! I love seeing all the behind the scenes stuff or at least as much as Disney lets us peek
I like how the audio visual equipment is hidden within the decorations along the river. I would have never known.
These cast members are great! They put in a lot of hard work to setup the show.
Back in the day, there used to be spot operators on the towers. Crazy to see that position go away.
Loving your channel, it's great to see it's not just me who takes an interest in the technology used in the parks!
That announcer is so amazing... He's been "THE VOICE" of DL since I was a kid back in the dinosaur years!
DLSea Music it’s a robot

not projectors.. moving lights.
@@tylerlindsley5469 The box at the top where follow spots used to be is a high definition laser video projector.
@@praestant8 right, what i was saying is that they wouldn't be using the projectors as replacements for the followspots

Thank you so much for uploading this! I'd love to work at Disney in tech! This is so cool to see everything involved! 💡🔊
8:08 Hope that the projection on top might be restored when Fantasmic returns in Memorial day.
I see some new lights. Can you do an update to the Fantasmic article you already have?
Yes, hopefully soon.

I wonder what brand of moving head lights they use in the parks? I've never been able to find the name.

Preset for this production is quite involved!
Those look like ROBE BMFLs on the tower. Which are not weatherproof by any means? Do they cover and not use them on nights when rain is expected?
I've never seen the show operate during the rain. That said, the fixtures do get exposed to moisture. The towers on the island are especially prone to moisture from the mist screens. The BMFLs on top of the towers are covered before they go into storage each night.
There's a Bunch Of Robe's BFML And Claypaky Scenius Unico
2:56 I think the speakers that guy is pulling out should also have bubble machines on their poles, to be turned on during the Pink Elephant scene.
it's so dark during that scene you wouldn't even see them
@@tylerlindsley5469 Oh, no! What a hard problem to fix. If only there were a bunch of lights they could turn on.
@@unrellated k go off i guess🤣
In the 90's maybe early 2000's they had snow machines on top. They would "make it snow" after fantasmic.
I'm wondering why they need speakers when they already have speakers built into those light posts.
Hi Robert, those specific speakers aren't loud enough to cover the area, hence the additional poles.
I think the speakers around the park are older and not built for the level of decibels needed to cover a show like fantasmic. They are fine for the normal background music. For shows like Fantasmic they bring in the Big Daddys

Yes, they used to have two follow spot operators a few years ago before Fantasmic 2.0. They've been replaced by automated Robe BMFL WashBeams.
Where is the fire effects?

That's a lot of prep going on just 15 min before show time.

The audio is just pieced together to avoid copyright infringement.
Everything is tested to ensure that they work properly without any hiccups!
