    I knew it! As a young pyrotechnician, I always looked on google maps to see if I could find the shoot sites. I found the first three, but never knew about the others.

      Yeah, some of the sites are really tricky to find on Google Maps/Earth as they're not "permanent" pyro sites, and are only used for a few special occasions each year. Anyway, thanks for watching and I'm pleased you enjoyed it! 😀👍

    0:31 - I never knew those kinds of fireworks were called comets. Those are pretty much the kind you see being shot from the roofs of many sporting stadiums, along with mines and pearls.

    around 7:25 you actually added an extra spot west of the monorail one; in actuality, there’s a small barge located on the seven seas lagoon between the main island where the “mirror site” is located and the site behind the monorail 7:43-7:44 (the small barge is located in that spot)

    Hi Mark (O)! This video just popped up in my 'feed.' Really interesting. I was in MK on Millennium night. Don't ask, you can imagine. Must have been crazy deciding on that! However, at the stroke of midnight we were surrounded by fireworks. I'd been there the previous year, not Xmas time, and obviously saw the firework display. I realised that on this night it was completely different. Not having any knowledge of fireworks, and their configuration at MK, I said to my friend it's like we were standing in the middle of a 360 degree display. Now I know I was right!

    Do remote sites such as the island or sites farther from the Magic Kingdom use wired communication systems or does firework technology allow for wireless communication between the sites? I assume all the sites communicate to a central control system.

    • @TheGreatMarko
      @TheGreatMarko  11 місяців тому

      That's a great question, Spencer! Thanks for that!
      So MK use a digital firing system called "FireOne". Both wired and wireless hardware is available for FireOne. Now, most of the firing sites - particularly those "permanent" ones, like the castle and the main shell compound behind the castle will almost certainly be wired. I suspect the occasional sites used in the 180 config may also be hardwired. I'd hazard a guess though that the additional sites for the 360 config, especially the "mirror" shell compound on the island will be wireless. Although, I guess it will depend on many years it's been since Disney first started during fireworks on the island. As wireless firing systems are a relatively modern incarnation, it may be that pre-wireless, they did actually run cables out to the island. If they did, and they're still in working order, I suspect Disney would prefer to use wired wherever possible/practical, as it's generally more reliable.

    • @TheGreatMarko

      Thanks for the suggestion! Yes, I may well do... although the California park is considerably smaller and more compact than the Orlando site, so there's less firing sites which aren't as spread out.

    Is the monorail closed when there is firework shows?

    • @TheGreatMarko
      @TheGreatMarko  2 роки тому

      Generally no - however, I suspect they do temporarily close the monorail when they're using the 180/360 firework configurations at Magic Kingdom, due to the close proximity of some of those launch sites

    What Disney show used the most fireworks in history? I thought I heard there was an event that’s notable but I can’t find the video that mentioned that.

    • @TheGreatMarko
      @TheGreatMarko  3 роки тому +3

      So in 2008 it was the American Pyrotechnic Association's 60 anniversary, and their conference that year was held at WDW. To celebrate, Walt Disney Entertainment put on their biggest ever fireworks show, containing an estimated 4,500 fireworks. The one-off show was called "Welcome to our world". I cover it a bit in this video: ua-cam.com/video/DAY3NiV3Js8/v-deo.html

    We heard they use more gun powder than gun companies for the fireworks. They make their own fireworks right on the property west of the main launch site.

    • @TheGreatMarko
      @TheGreatMarko  3 роки тому +1

      The Walt Disney Company is the certainly the largest consumer of fireworks in the world, and I believe they're the second largest purchaser of explosives, right behind the U.S. Department of Defense!
      I don't think Disney "manufacture" their own fireworks though as such. They have certainly had a design input, but my understanding is that even though many are "made to order" exclusively for Disney, Disney actually source them from firework companies within the US or in China. All sourced fireworks initially get shipped to Disneyland in California, before being sorted and those for Disney World repackaged and shipped on to Orlando.
      They will certainly have areas where they "prep" the fireworks though, as well as additional large storage facilities. I believe Disney even have a firework storage area out at Orlando International Airport!

      @TheGreatMarko a large portion of their Pyro comes from a company by the name of MPA, in a tiny little town in California called Ione. The company is the largest pyro manufacturer in the world. I used to pack the boxes and pallets for the Disney World shows every week.

  • @andrewwelch1285

    Another factor of the show is that some of the shells are lifted using compressed air

    • @TheGreatMarko
      @TheGreatMarko  2 роки тому +1

      I believe the air launch system to which you refer - and which is still in use today at Disneyland, CA - was only ever used at Disney World, FL at Epcot where it was used in the early days of "Illuminations: Reflections of Earth" to fire the two opening shells. The air launch system was never used at Magic Kingdom itself. - I'm eventually going to get around to doing a video about Disney's air launch system, as it's fascinating stuff! 🙂🎆
