3 years!! you are just a baby in your adopted country, wait till you have been 40 years. That is how long I have been in my adoptive country and sometimes I still feel like an alien. It does get better and easier ..slowly year after year. I am sure you are going to make it well in Canada, your enthusiasm shows and I do wish you well and good luck.

Adaptation. Natural selection is not about having devices that are smarter than you are. I really love this video. It is relevant to immigrating anywhere. It is relevant to any change in one's life situation. I am sure you would be a success anywhere you go. It's about having the right attitude and taking responsibility for your choices. You are someone I would love to have as a friend, and I hope wherever you go people respect your mind.

Binge-watched a bunch of your videos tonight, and found myself sometimes nodding and talking to myself, or smiling and tearing up. Been here for 7 months and grateful to be able to sustain myself, but can't stop comparing myself to others and overthinking things. Your experience helped put things in perspective.
Thank you for what you're doing 🤗

I don't comment on UA-cam videos often, but wow did this really resonate with me lol. I'm reaching my second year of PR soon and I'm in that phase where I moved away from the city life, and now I want to go back to it because going for events and making friends is difficult elsewhere! 😂
    Thank you for this.

    • @MakeThatChange
      @MakeThatChange  Рік тому

Glad you could resonate with that! I've realized that moving away from the city is ideal when you have a spouse/partner and stable friendships you can keep in touch with even if you're a bit further away. The city is still the best place to live your best young life and meet new people.

I'm in a very similar situation to what you experienced in your home country. I'm from Hungary, and I plan to leave because I feel like an outsider here. Now I'm trying to brush up on my high-school French (which was pretty strong back then) to get enough points for Express Entry. I've already visited Canada, and I have relatives there, which makes my situation easier.
However, my biggest fear is the job search. I'm an engineer as well, but it was very hard to find a job in my field, even here at home, and I've never had a workplace that I really liked or that paid well. But your videos give me so much hope and inspiration! I’m ambitious too, and I think that in the right environment, I’ll finally be able to soar.

Call me a typical Bob of being the stereotype of newcomer with PR, and Anna You mindset 3 years ago was exactly same as mine now, feeling trapped and “homeland foreign”, over-romantic imagination of automatic merging into the western world, etc. Yet the reality in Canada will give me a hard lesson from, well, job hunting, high educational background usually means high expectation but followed by depression.
Thanks for all your advice and encouragement for my future here, I am gonna attend the job application courses, study for getting a license, be active and always open to learn.

In 5 days I'll be moving to Canada to do a 1 year postgraduate program in digital marketing and I gotta say that, even though I haven't really started my journey yet, I can really relate to the first lesson. Especially the "fear" part. 😄
I've researched, and continue to research, everything I can think of but I'm still plenty nervous. Above all, for the process of finding a job (obligatory to do so for my 3rd semester). I'm 24 years old and have little to no professional experience in my own country; let alone in an entirely different country like Canada but I will do my best and take the initiative as much as I can in terms of doing research, being open minded, putting myself out there, ect...
Lastly I want to say, the reason why I came across your channel in the first place was beceause I was doing research. This is perhaps the only channel that I've subbed to that focuses on making videos about Canada & immigration because every video is always very grounded and very informative + with a lot of effort put into it. I can see myself still enjoying the content you guys put out even years from now.
So, I wish you more success and thank you for the good work!

😅 when you mentioned "don't get stuck in a job for years..." oh man... i've been in the same company for 12 year!! Stuck in the comfort zone and feeling too protected by the company's excellent welfare. But when I make the move back to Canada, I'll take that leap out of my comfort zone and apply for a job that my husband believes I'm capable in doing well but I doubt myself because I've never done it as a profession before. Or else I'll always wonder to myself what I could have achieved if I did pursue it.

    • @MakeThatChange

You’ve got this! What’s the worst that’s gonna happen? You can already do the job you’ve been doing for 12 years. If all else fails you can always come back to doing the old thing. BUT imagine all the possibilities of the new thing/job!

You must be an engineer. You have engineer brain. Over-build. Having left Canada what astounds me is how NOTHING is "free" to help immigrants. I usually feel like a bank account being raped for NO services render. I don't mind paying if the people do anything, but someone doing part of the job and expecting pay ... or else. It gets old. This vlog is not about moving to Canada (except the free stuff 🤣), it's about moving anywhere.
I didn't find my first move halfway around the world scary (pre computer age) I found it FUN!!! I had no idea what I was leaving and you take yourself with you everywhere you go. You have only your own background to "interpret" life until you have more experiences. I like watching your vlog. It doesn't make me want to return "home", but it's nice to see another immigrant who takes responsibility for her choices. Immigration is not a baby-sitting service. You get out of life what you put into it.

Salaries in Russia actually are way better than in Canada, especially if you work in IT sector in a city like Moscow. And along with rent prices in cities like Vancouver or Toronto that makes Canada unattractive at least financially.

    • @MakeThatChange

What about rent prices in Moscow? Not the outskirts 😉
Plus, moscow is not representative of the whole Russia, we all know that. And not everybody works in IT sector. Anna is a petroleum engineer and she's not from Moscow.
