Soon they are going to make a movie where you find out that the director was trying to make the pink hate slime from gb2 and they will have the original ghost busters come kill the new ones. Like the American godzilla becoming "zilla" and getting wrecked by Japanese Godzilla.
The first problem with the comedy in this movie is that it was mostly improvised, apparently the actors were encouraged - even expected, to fill out the scenes with "funny moments" without any direction from the script or the actual director. The second problem with the comedy in this movie is that the original Ghost Busters wasn't a damn Comedy - it just had funny moments interspersed between actual plot and action.
Improv comedy isn't easy to pull off. It takes a professional to make it work. Especially on film, or Tv. Those actors less familiar with improv will still need a script to work with; and some decent jokes, too. Also, just because it's improvised doesn't mean comedy can write itself.

"Why did Bill Murray sign on for this?" Amy Pascal, head of Sony, wrote in her hacked e-mails that they would cut off his Ghostbusters residual checks if he didn't do it. He was blackmailed into it.
It's in the hacked Sony e-mails. Almost every horrible decision about Ghostbusters 2016 is laid out in those e-mails (Paul Feig wanted "ghost aliens"!). If the e-mails haven't been scrubbed from the internet, look them up. It's all there. And, yes, Pascal said that Murray's residuals would be cut off if he didn't cooperate.
Think about it. Murray has refused pleas and mountains of cash to do another Ghostbusters, once even shredding a script and mailing it back to Aykroyd...but he's going to participate in the 2016 dog turd of a movie?
There is an awesome book that could be written about Ghostbusters 2016, or "SJW Patient Zero" to some snarky youtubers. The hacked e-mails also lay out how Amy Pascal and Paul Feig conspired to push out Ivan Reitman so they could take over Ghostbusters and do what they did.

13:25 As you asked why Bill Murray signed on to be in this, I can tell you. He was forced into doing it under threat of being sued by Sony Pictures. This all came out when North Korea hacked Sony and all the private emails came out from people like Amy Pascal and so on. "An email dated October 31, 2013, from David Steinberg, head of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s legal department, to Leah Weil, SPE’s general counsel, touches on Bill Murray’s alleged reluctance to star in Paul Feig’s planned all-women Ghostbusters adaptation. If the email exchange is to be believed, Sony was planning “‘aggressive’ litigation counsel” to evaluate the situation, but wanted to keep it quiet so as not to harm the studio’s reputation by publicly going after a celebrated actor like Murray. “In order to more fully evaluate our position if Bill Murray again declines to engage on ‘Ghostbusters’, AG requested that we identify ‘aggressive’ litigation counsel with whom we can consult to evaluate our alternatives and strategize,” the email read. “[Harkening back to his prior employer, of course, raised the name of David Boies.] Personally, while I’m fine with aggressive, I think we are in much worse shape if this goes public so seems to me we should look for someone who isn’t seeking the spotlight.” Amy Pascal was certainly in on the whole operation. This movie's biggest sin was wasting the talents of it's cast. I was OK with a remake, but this was just too poorly written and directed. Shame on you Paul Feig.
Feig was completely and utterly wrong to direct a Ghostbusters reboot. I say that as someone who though 'Spy' was one of the most underrated recent comedies - really, really funny. But Feig's sense of humour is not the dry, deadpan, subtle humour of Ghostbusters. His humour is very broad, and he doesn't care about plot or characterisation - he just wants to make you laugh. Which is fine in something like Spy...but not in Ghostbusters. In the original the plot and the characters came first and the humour just emerged from the combination of those two central elements.

This isnt The Amazing Spiderman
The first problem with the comedy in this movie is that it was mostly improvised, apparently the actors were encouraged - even expected, to fill out the scenes with "funny moments" without any direction from the script or the actual director.
The second problem with the comedy in this movie is that the original Ghost Busters wasn't a damn Comedy - it just had funny moments interspersed between actual plot and action.
I’d say it’s as much a comedy as it is a story personally
The original Ghostbusters is absolutely a comedy. It's just a comedy with a supernatural storyline.
Improv comedy isn't easy to pull off. It takes a professional to make it work. Especially on film, or Tv.
Those actors less familiar with improv will still need a script to work with; and some decent jokes, too.
Also, just because it's improvised doesn't mean comedy can write itself.

“[Harkening back to his prior employer, of course, raised the name of David Boies.] Personally, while I’m fine with aggressive, I think we are in much worse shape if this goes public so seems to me we should look for someone who isn’t seeking the spotlight.”

Paul Feig said his movie is hilarious. I guess the studio is to blame for putting an idiot who thinks this shit was funny in charge of it.
The movie was just straight up trash
Feig was completely and utterly wrong to direct a Ghostbusters reboot. I say that as someone who though 'Spy' was one of the most underrated recent comedies - really, really funny.
But Feig's sense of humour is not the dry, deadpan, subtle humour of Ghostbusters. His humour is very broad, and he doesn't care about plot or characterisation - he just wants to make you laugh. Which is fine in something like Spy...but not in Ghostbusters. In the original the plot and the characters came first and the humour just emerged from the combination of those two central elements.

2 things doomed this movie, not deciding whether it was going to be a sequel or a reboot in the trailers and writing a “all men are dumbass pigs” girl power script.
