  • Vectric has upped the game in their latest version 12 (Vectric V12) release for CNC Router enthusiasts with the introduction of their groundbreaking Sketch Carving Tool. This innovative feature simplifies the process of converting black and white images into ready-to-carve toolpaths with just a single click. Whether you're a seasoned creator or just starting out, this tool opens up a world of possibilities, allowing you to effortlessly bring complex clip art or AI-generated images to life. Here, I will showcase its ease of use and how to maximize its potential while acknowledging its limitations.
The Sketch Carving Tool allows you to generate detailed and efficient toolpaths and reduces carve time. This feature is a game-changer, enabling the creation of intricate designs without the need for extensive technical knowledge.
For those interested in leveraging the full power of Vectric V12, remember that the Sketch Carving Tool is exclusive to Vcarve Desktop, Vcarve Pro, and Vectric Aspire-all in Versions from 12 and above. Unfortunately, it is not available in the Cut2D version 12. If you're ready to take your CNC projects to the next level, consider upgrading to Vectric Version 12. Click the link below to download or upgrade your Vectric software to version 12.

    What's up Garrett?? Nice video!!
Turning anything complex into a software or A.I. generated sketch, bitmap tracing, vector or whatever it is you are aiming for is going to disappoint almost 100% of the time it's tried. Now it does depend on the level of detail, contrast and definition etc. It will also help you figure out how much you don't enjoy node editing as a full time job. I work from photos of famous buildings, sometimes to engrave on glass but most of the time I'll shoot for depth carving to get as much relief in the finished piece as I can. It's been my experience that I will save huge amounts of time by just getting out a cheap drawing tablet (Wacom or similar) and take my time to correctly draw what it is I am attempting to create. Then I am not going back and forth until my eyes are worn out from looking at thousands and thousands of nodes that need to be moved, removed, or trying to drag handles all over to fix a curve. Screw that!!
I have extensive experience NOT getting the results I was hoping for using Inkscape, Gimp, Illustrator, Photoshop and VCARVE probably some other titles as well. Tried and tried.. and tried some more! I was constantly searching for an easier method to get the lines I wanted to pop out of some flashy software program and I found I was never satisfied with the results.
Am I too picky about things? Probably... maybe a little more than most. If I'm going to take the time to actually end up producing finished pieces I rather they look as nice as I can make them. When I get started on anything that is going to take me hours/days to draw I break it up into smaller sections and constantly remind myself...
I only have to get it right one time.
After the toolpaths are created and I see what I hoped for coming off the mill. It's as good as gold. Scale it up/down, etch it, burn it, cut it or carve it. The bulk of my time for any of this work is always spent converting the artwork into something suitable for the medium and the limitations of the gear in my shop.
Some of this stuff takes time to do. Garbage in = Garbage out.
    Have a nice day!!

Hey Garrett, I've been experimenting with the sketch tool path in Vcarve pro 12, and noticed that if you import a bitmap as the sketch image, and then choose the sketch tool path, the specific tool path menu items don't seem to allow for the exclusion of a boundary (or border) carve. In other words, the application draws a border around the bitmap and then carves it based on the selected offset, with 0 apparently equal to some value other than 0. For whatever reason, you get a carved border no matter the choice, and seems to be true for the vector selection choice also.
    Any thoughts?
    Great video by the way!

Having used Vcarve Pro for many years this is probably the first upgrade I will not be paying for... The Vectric sketch tool is a nice concept but once again like other parts of vcarve the execution is not the best... It only outlines everything it doesnt produce the vectors around the black areas so they can be carved out like the original image so we are still left with editing to do to get a proper representation of the original image... Vcarve already has the bitmap tracer which is outdated technology...the freehand drawing ability is also outdated technology as is a number of other components in vcarve... So once again they offer us an expensive upgrade with half hearted new stuff and nil improvements... I would be much happier to pay for the new upgrade if they actually improved and updated the outdated technology they are using in existing parts of the software like the bitmap tracer and the freehand drawing functions as there is other software out there that does a much better job in a more efficient time frame and nowhere near the expense...Vcarve needs to get into the modern age and stop trying to sell us outdated software re-wrapped in a pretty package....my thoughts :-) :-) :-)

brettfarrell4818, That's great! It's good to invest in tools that help you improve your woodworking skills. Enjoy using copilot!

I am not fond of the idea that copilot is $20.00 a month, unless I'm wrong on that.

brettfarrell4818, I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your Microsoft account and the CoPilot app. Have you tried reaching out to their customer support for assistance?

Interesting feature that reduces steps by combining trace with vpath. This was always available with a few more steps. Using external tools to trace you can have a lot more control of the outcome if your using a grayscale or color image.
