    This really is an awesome video! Considering the trap line time alone, I cant even begin to imagine how much work and time went into making it. Especially when you add the additional time for filming and editing. Thank you for your efforts and what you do. I have learned a lot from watching your videos and look forward to any you may post in the future. Don't let the UA-cam censorship get you down man. Question for you: I would love to know how you make your castor lure. I've heard you mention some of the ingredients before in other videos but I was hoping to learn how in detail. Different ingredients? Fresh or dried castor glands? (if that even matters) How do you prevent spoilage? Things of that nature...now if this is a private/secret then I completely understand if you would prefer to keep that confidential. Also, I am a southern trapper (North Carolina) and I am curious if the lure your making would have the same effect down here. Its my understanding that our beaver wont always respond to castor lure as well as the more northern do...thoughts on this?Thank you once again man...great stuff!!!

    Watch this video Fellas...best beaver trapper around the Great lakes...Great video bro...Man can you put the fur up...How long is your line? Do you run into a lot of other trappers around where you are at? Great video and by far the best on the tube...Crazy with the little beaver on the house...You actually have a fur buyer there that buys whole beaver? Have you had beavers ripped apart before? I have had a few thru the years and am guessing wolfs also...Crazy with 348 beavers...3 Springs ago my buddy and his friend trapped 318 around here and the next year they were like there is hardly any beaver around...I wondered why, lol...You can find them but they are hard to get to...There making a come back but the trapping pressure around here is sick...Every pond, creek and river is trapped hard...Hopefully with the3 feet of snow we got at the end of October helped the critters this last fall...Did you hit 350?

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  9 років тому +2

      Heith Gagnon Hey pal thanks for the kind words. Sorry i didn't comment earlier. For some reason You Tube hid your comment like it was spam or something lol. Well I run around twenty five 330s and any number of snares also. some footholds in the spring also but maybe a half dozen. The key to catching good numbers is I always am moving traps. as soon as I make some good catches I will move those traps to new locations so I always have good producing sets out. There are a few trappers around here but not many big ones. I have a buyer here that prefers to buy his beaver whole because he does all his own processing and thats where he makes his money. Selling the meat and the castor adds up. I have them tore up but not often. Last year I have a few that were destroyed up in the state park. I assumed it was wolves or possibly a bear because whatever it was bent my rebar stake to a 45 degree angle trying to pull the trap stake out with the beaver and trap. The area I trap Literally has hundreds of lakes, ponds, sloughs, rivers you name it running around and through here. It's actually called the lakes area and there are beaver denned up in just about every one of them. I been trapping all of these same areas for the past 20 years and my father and grandpa did before that. Even yet still the local DNR gets over 200 callas per summer on beaver causing problems. funny there are still that many of them causing trouble even with me out there trapping so many! And if anyone would like to share this video I would be very greatful. It's my best video on beaver trapping to date I feel and put alot of time and work into putting it together. I hope you all enjoy it and thanks again Kieth!

    Thanks for publishing a fantastic video. I dabble at beaver trapping over by Walker, mainly when they get out of control and start destroying the forest my family owns. It's sickening how many beautiful trees they can kill when left unchecked. My best year was 23 beavers but I might double that this year as I just got 6 new MB-750's to go with my 330's and snares. I have never done anything but blind sets. This year I picked up some Sweetwater Flattail for castor mounds. The density and proximity of your sets was an eye-opener for me. Thanks for sharing. Do you have a favorite beaver lure?

You can start by going to or calling your local DNR headquarters they will definately point you in the right direction where to find some beaver. I find most of my lodges on sloughs and rivers or big lakes in bays. Just about anywhere there is water and a good amount of brush or trees for them to survive on. Any more questions you can send me a PM if you like Amanda

    Question for you. With 348 beaver in one season. And a conservative estimate of 20lbs average weight per dress-out beaver. That means you pulled in around 7000lbs of meat. What do you do with all that protein? How many freezers do you have? It also begs the question. Do you just re-upholster you entire house with cured beaver pelts. A coat, hat or jacket I can understand. Yes, I know that you probably just sell the pelts. But don't you every use the pelts for your own enjoyment or gifts? Regards, BAG2

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  9 років тому +1

      I sell most of my beaver whole and only save around 200lbs of meat per year. Yes I do save a pelt every now and then but they have to be special. like last year I caught a very large beaver that was pitch black in color. Thanks for watching pal

      Darn! I was hoping you had a beaver room in your house. Just imagine all the snickers when you tell people that. Then they walk-in the room and find everything in the room is fuzzy. The walls, the ceiling, the lamps, the fans. Sorry, a lame attempt of a trapping joke, BAG2

      Got another set of questions. How big is your trap line. Actually I think you probably have a couple of lines. How many traps do you set on each line. And approximately how long are the lines in miles. I am trying to get an idea of how much time and effort it took to get all that meat and fur. I have done trapping for a single season. But to get any real numbers, I had to go long distances. Then I had the problem of reducing a populate to the point that there was only seed stock left. So how do you handle it so you are constantly catching. What is your policy for people trapping on top of you. Can you give me an idea of what percentage of snares to jaw traps you set. Thanks in Advance. Best Regards, BAG2

      beageek2 Well I have tons of places here to trap beaver. Literally dozens of ponds everywhere and most of them containing beaver so there has never been a shortage of beaver numbers here, As for other trappers go if I come to a pond where someone else is trapping i will not set up on it until they move on. I am really the only trapper around my area that traps the extent I do. I run around 20 330s and a half dozen footholds maybe and some snares. I'm always moving them around every 3 days or so to make sure I have good producing sets out. I run about a 40 mile stretch one way roughly. I will trap one area of the stretch for a few days then move all my gear to another part of it and keep going that way until I stop.
