If you ever make a Best Telescope for under £200 ($250) then I recommend these 3 choices : - Orion StarBlast 102 - Meade Infinity 90 - SkyWatcher Heritage 130P (if you can get it at FirstLight Optics for around £190 then that's great)
Had a year of Astronomy in college. We took a trip to the Centerport Planetarium (NY) where they had a modest Observatory and I'll never forget seeing the rings of Saturn through a Pro level telescope
Just letting yall know… if you are a beginner I HIGHLY recommend getting something with an alt-az mount or dobsonian mount, as an eq mount would be very frustrating and a huge hobby killer.
It's hard to buy used scope as a beginner... I would love to see a video on how to properly evaluate a mirror, optic or? When we are at the seller's house on the daylight.
This. I’ve been using cheap binoculars to take pics of the moon and want to upgrade to a telescope but don’t know if I should buy used because what if it’s broken or dirty?
@@rorschach723 The best move you can do is find your local astronomy club. They will give you a lot of free and excellent advices and probably tell you where to search.
@emranismail Bought it for $500. Old StarFinder in decent condition. Had to take it on his word the mirror is good. Said it gives sharp views of Jupiter. Missing some spacers between mirror and cell and mirror needs a cleaning, so first light will have to wait. Hoping next weekend.
@@millenialfalcon8243 right now im at a 10inch skywatcher but i really want a 14/16 truss tube dob. I just wish they made them without the goto cause i just dont enjoy using it
@@millenialfalcon8243what would you recommend for a pretty good telescope. I like to buy it nice over buying it twice. I want a pretty good one and not just some cheap thing. I dont know where to look either
Are you talking about the Skyscope. I purchased one in 1952 for $30 thru Sky & Telescope magazine. A 3" mirror in a cardboard tube, with 3 iron pipes screwed into a primitive mount, with 60 power and 120 power eyepieces. Cheap, but I could just make out the red spot on Jupiter, the north polar ice cap on Mars, the mountains of the Moon and half of the Messier objects.
@@eugenegrudzien5040 Yeah, must have been ! It still works... i bought a 30 power eyepiece and it was perfect for the moon and some clusters. That was when I was twelve, so 1957. That started me off... in high school my senior year we got a 10" bought by the school, and that was great ! I started grinding my own 6" mirror... still have it, unfinished. Thanks for the reply, good memories...
Just letting yall know… if you are a beginner I HIGHLY recommend getting something with an alt-az mount or dobsonian mount, as an eq mount would be very frustrating and a huge hobby killer. But great video Damon!
I started getting into astrophotography so i went out last night and i was taking pics of randon stars and i looked directly up and i seen the big dipper and its the the first thing throughout my space journy thanks to you
I was lucky enough to pic up an orion skyquest xt6 for $125 at a yard sale and i also live in a very dark area to view the night sky and i can see the moon very clearly and up close as i got a lenses that can zoom but i am still new to this hobby and having a blast.
I haven't upgraded myself to any telescopes yet but I d9 have a pair of celestron skymaster binoculars the exact same ones at 4:34....they are fantastic for first time skywatchers before you go to telescopes.
I’ve bought 3 different binoculars. All three were miss aligned right out of the box. Two were celestron. One was Barska. 25 X 70 you have to either use a tripod or brace your elbows on the car or wall. Since they are misaligned, I just look through one side like a telescope.
@ Not sure that’s correct. I believe you have to adjust something inside. You peal back a covering and there are tiny screws. But I gave up. Not talking about focusing.
I can see Saturn's ring with my spotting scope which is $60 new. 25-75X 70, maybe even better than the binoculars? But I'm wondering about what my next upgrade should be.
I have an old Russian TAL 4" telescope, and a Celestron Skywatcher 150mm. To be honest, the TAL just has the edge, but I agree that a decent pair of binoculars are a good starting point. The equatorial mounts can be a pain for a novice to set up.
Should be super early in the morning which means your window for observation will be very short. Yeah, binoculars would be your best bet. All the best!😁
I like to take photographs of things I cannot see with a 6" telescope. So, I plate solve my to one of them and take a 30 second photo in hopes of spotting it. I then take at least an hour worth of exposures. So, my binoculars don't cut it.
i managed to capture the Orion nebula with a £50/£60 25-75times60 spotting scope i am wanting a smart telescope but i dont get enough and can only afford bills and its difficult finding a job that i like here in the UK
100% I purchased a telescope once could not figure the thing out, years later purchased those same binoculars and it has been a fantastic experience. (plug and play lol)
To me it’s the astroMaster LT 60 it’s the best refractor and the mount is good and I can do astrophotography with it the first picture of nebula is of helix nebula in bortal 3 sky and with Barlow 2x I can see Jupiter colour band’s and moons and I saw with a high quality eye piece from Temu I saw the Saturn rings
You should try the sky watcher heritage 90 (the Maksutov) i bought it and i had a very pleasant surprise , ( it s a little more in the £350 range but it s a great telescope vor viewing the planets and the moon, you will get very sharp images( especially of Saturn’s rings
Great advice, I myself use a 200mm Skywatcher Newtonian and 2x 102mm refractors for the moon and planets. Always use binoculairs as well, necessary tool to quick scan especially the condition of the sky. I also have the Bresser 127/1200mm refractor but I like the more compact 102mm, almost the same level of details, Skywatcher and Teleskop Service, not bad at all for the pricepoint. Advice from me: never buy expensive equipment if you are watching the night sky on monthly bases, just buy the scope between 300-700 and spend some money on better eyepieces, those things make a major difference. Barlow lenses, mehhh not great fan of them, takes away the crisp clearness of the image when watching visualy. Clear skyes everyone! ⭐⭐⭐
you should try the meade polaris 114mm i have it and is so good, its not the cheapest but nor is it the most expensive and i would really like to see you use it as im currently struggling to get the orion nebula i think it might be due to pollution in my area tho 🙃
The larger telescopes of Meade's Infinity (90mm and 102mm) series are good too, they're both refractors so they're more crisp than potentially a 114 reflector
People quickly look at youtube videos and are disappointed when their shots, using identical equipment, are nothing like those YT videos. It's all about post processing...and some imagination.
If you're complete beginner avoid mirrors, you will quit this hobby quicker than you think -colimation is not easy or cheap. Nobody ever mention how important is your telescope mount or base ,is more important than your scope itself is. Save and buy best mount you can afford and then get a scopes any you like . Even cheapest scope works better on proper mount. Expensive scope on cheap mount ? You gonna hate it. Refractors are easy to work with you should recommend them.
Just watch the images on UA-cam. Buying a telescope isn't worth it. You'll probably only use it a few times in a year. Have 2 telescope gathering dust.
