Who says that you cannot smell or taste from watching a video. From both your facial expressions, I came close to tasting the passion fruit drink and that " fishy" papaya salad. The look on Sarah's face struggling to maintain decorum on camera while chewing on the salad was priceless! Sarah, you have a voice acting career ahead of you from your hilarious impression of Seunghyun! Keep doing what you guys are doing! Always look forward to your vlogs!❤
thank you guys for sharing your visit to Laos. I'm Lao/Chinese and i love the country of Laos. i just feel that this landlocked country is overlooked too often times. the country is similar to Thailand but the people made the difference. Lao people are more peaceful n charitable than Thai people. Lao people are extremely kind. i hope you enjoyed your stayed there. Wednesday :)
Thank you for watching! We are so surprised more people don't visit Laos - Although we love Thailand too, Laos felt much more relaxed and was a great stop for travelers. We loved our visit and want to go back someday soon hopefully!
I’m glad you guys went to Laos. I was born in Laos n now I lived in Iowa, USA. Enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for sharing. God bless y’all, enjoy n safe travels 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
Kudos to both of you tried out Laos foods. We just got back from Vientiane our teens girls only ate noodles soups and rice soup for the whole time lol😅
Hahahhaha the fermented fish sauce is liquid gold called “padek” it’s an essential ingredient to a Lao papaya salad and other dishes. Thats rhetorical big difference in a Lao vs Thai papaya salad.
Ahh yeah we've had Thai-style papaya salad before and this was a different experience for sure! Too strong for us but was definitely the most popular dish we saw people ordering
I think the green drink (of the 3 drinks) at 14 minutes is blended Indian pennywort in English. You'll find this green drink in Vietnam too. It's supposed to be healthy. The orange drink is Thai tea which is black tea and sweetened condensed milk. The papaya salad is seasoned with the sauce from fermented fish, very strong odor. If you ordered the Lao version, it has sauce from fermented crabs and the crabs themselves. Very strong odor as well. It's always eaten with vegetables like cabbage or morning glory to tame down the strong flavors and peppers and accompany with sweet rice and meat.
That GREEN drink you guys have, may have been Pennyworth drink. Extracted from Pennyworth leaves. It's supposed to be a "cool" medicine. If you're body is hot, you would be drinking that to cool your system down, or when you're somewhat under the weather. Similar affect to Lotus roots.
With meat sounds pretty good! We tried papaya salad like three or four times in Laos but sadly couldn't adjust 😅 I think we prefer more mild fish sauce
The fry spring roll is a local version of Vietnamese cha gio. You are supposed to wrap it with vegetables first, like lettuce and cilantro, pepper, cucumber…of your choice, before you dip it in the sauce.
The meatballs we had were pork, but we saw some chicken and beef-only dishes at other stalls. The downtown area had so many different restaurants to choose from, so I'm sure you all will have many options to try. Have a safe, fun trip! 😊
Green papaya, vermicelli or mango salads tend to have the fermented fish sauce in it that you guys don’t like it. But us Lao folks love that flavor😂. It’s definitely an acquired taste and not meant for those that don’t like that pungent fishy smell or taste.
@@ting2222 nice! It looked like khao poon to me. Never had mee katee before. Will have to try it next time I'm in Laos. I was just there last August in Xiangkhouang area.
@@ting2222 btw what language is mee katee? I know mee means noodle in Hmong but katee is not hmong. Or is it? I've always called coconut "txiv maj phaub" which maj phaub is actually a Lao word. I am Hmong btw.
@@eludethis it is Lao language. It’s not khao poon at all. The noodles is the same as Pho noodle, different from khao poon noodle. The soup for it is also different. Mee Katee is usually not widely sold like Pho or khao piak or khao poon. You have to find out where they are sold. I myself like to eat it too when I have a chance.

Papaya salad is a staple / comfort food for every Lao household. Usually paired with protein. I.e; grilled chicken or beef skewers.
Love that khao poon dish ❤👍

Ohhh that sounds like it would be tastier - we'll have to try that way next time. Thank you!
My Mexican friends in the US love papaya salad with sticky rice 😂

That fishy taste is called padaek. It’s Laos crack sauce that they put in a lot of dishes. One of the dishes they put it in is called papaya salad.

How is it to eat lao food?
Man papaya salad are the best

Thank you! We were struggling to find the name so had to guess
It is actually called mee katee. Mee is noodle. Katee is coconut milk. Not khao piak not khao poon.
