- BEFORE YOU CERAMIC COAT, MAKE SURE THE PAINT IS PROPERLY PREPARED….which we do in these two videos:
PREP WASH: • Preparing the CHEVY SP...
POLISH: • How to REMOVE scratche...
With that disclaimer out of the way (proper prep is crucial for any ceramic coating to properly adhere to your paint and provide maximum longevity) please enjoy this step by step tutorial of THE STACK!

----INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO APPLY THE STACK----
THE STACK: how to layer 2 coatings for ultimate slickness, gloss & self-cleaning properties!
You only need one layer of DIY Detail Ceramic Coating. But so many of you have been asking: can I apply 2? If so, what do I need to know???
Stacking coatings isn’t the same as multiple coats of the same product. With our coatings, you can stack the 3 year Graphene Ceramic Coating over our 5 and 8 year Ceramic coatings. Why would you want to do that? It gives you the benefits of the 5 or 8 year coatings, plus the characteristics of the 3 year Graphene coating. This means you’re getting extreme slickness, higher gloss AND water spot resistance. Plus enhanced self cleaning ability.
Here’s what you need to know about application.
There’s a window of opportunity to stack coatings, 2-8 hours. Before the 2 hour mark, the 3-year will damage the other coating you’ve already applied. In the window of opportunity (2-8 hours after applying that first layer of coating), the 2 mix together to become another coating - enhancing the properties of both. After 8 hours? Instead of combining the coating, you’re simply adding the 3-year coating OVER the other.
As always, let us know if you have any questions. And happy detailing!

As someone who works for Enterprise, I cry every time we wash a car using their preferred methods. A bucket with no grit guard, harsh chemicals, and worst of all: a horrible brush that we reuse on every single car. It's heartwarming to see you guys finally give an old fleet car some love.
Thank you.
Your channel is unique, it's everything I need for detailing. You present everything in a very understandable and practical way. You're THE best!
Wow, thank you!
Really really great video guys💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you 🙌
Really looking forward to seeing the hydrophobics!! 👍
That video should be coming in a couple of weeks:)
Such a great tutorial!
💯💪🏼
Glad you think so!
Thank you 🙌
Can't wait. I bought the Stack and am waiting on the weather here to change.
Awesome!
Ooooo,this will be good😊
Thanks
I’ve got the stack sauce ready to go on our new CRV. Love the 5 year!
That is awesome!
Interesting concept with 2 layers of coating...looks great.
Feels great too!
The stack for the ultimate gloss and benefits 💪💪
Yessir!
I did the 5yr/3yr Stack on my F150. Freaking love it!!
Awesome!
looks great and will give it a try here in the Netherlands
Excellent
I really like the stack and this is something everyone should be doing to their personal cars. The process is simple as long as you have patience and common sense. Thank you for the video and I cannot wait to see the shop remodel.
Thank you.
YES!!!
Thank you
Ready
Thanks
hi everyone, this has probably been asked before in the past, but how long can the bottle last you have opened it to coat toyota tacoma then having some left and closing the bottle?
4-6 months
Great video, as usual!
Have you considered a quick video on towel and aplicater washing?
Good idea
Getting some soon......
Excellent
I absolutely LOVE this stack!! I have it on my wife's rock creek and wow!! Crazy thing I used 3 quarters of each bottle and it's absolutely shiny and hydrophobics are insane!! Still waiting on that chair ivan 😆
That is awesome! Coming soon.
Love the videos guys thanks for all that you do. Also for helping when i screw up lol
Thank you!
Another great video. I just bought one of the Lake Country Pad washers from you guys. Quick question, I can simply use the rinsless wash in the pad washer right? I don't need to buy any pad cleaning solutions right? I believe I saw that in one of your videos
Correct.
Appreciate all the videos, I'm learning alot. Can the stack be used with the 5yr and 3yr as well and would there be any benefits or drawbacks to doing it that way?
Yes the 5/3 stack is very popular. Slightly more gloss, slightly less hydrophobic
Perfect tutorial guys!! Its the attention to detail explained that I love. Showing an actual high spot was critical imho. "A picture paints a thousand words". Are you selling the kit in the UK ? Many thanks !!
Thank you. We have several distributors in the UK

Awesome video! One question. When you coat the windows, what does the coating bond to since there is no clear coat? Im guessing the coating on the windows just doesnt last as long?
The glass is quite porous. It’s abrasion that will remove it
When are the diy detail polishers coming out
End of March
I'm an "end-user" who's looking forward to using your products on a new/used car I recently purchase and this Stacking seems intriguing. I asked this on another video(and have not gotten an answer), but I hope you can do a video on how to deal with an older car with exterior plastic/rubber trim that has been oxidized.. My goal is to do a full polish, decon, etc, but don't fully understand how and where to integrate a trim restoration product along with your ceramic coating post polish/panel-prep..
Do the trim restoration after the polishing stage. Do not apply coating to previously oxidized trim.
@@diydetailofficial Thanks. Makes sense.
The amount of work you put guys is amazing…. Thank you for sharing your experience with us 👌! I’m located in UK and I don’t have a garage…. Can I apply your coats outside? The humidity here is crazy 😅
Our pleasure! Yes you can, just best to do so in temperatures above 40 degrees Fahrenheit, closer to 50 is even better
@@diydetailofficial That’s perfect! Thank you so much for your help and response so fast🙏
Nice video 😁 can I close the bottle and use the remaining ceramic coating for another car, another day? And for how long is ceramic coating ok, once the bottle was opened?
Yes you can! 6 months
Can you explain the differences between the 3yr, 5yr and 8yr coatings? Is it just the different duration times or are there other unique qualities of each one?
Also, I have a red pickup that sits in full Florida sun all day/every day. Does that decrease the duration time of ceramic coatings?
This explains it best.

Hi guys, I'm enjoying all the videos you've been 'religously' pushing out. I've learned a lot. I have purchased a number of your products from TOC in Vaughan. Question: last September I had my car color corrected and basic ceramic coating applied - it looks great, much more shine than without. I like the idea of having a bit more shine and a lot more protection - can I add your coatings (stack version) on top of what I currently have without polishing the surface to apply?
You will need to polish lightly to abrade the existing coating.
Great, that means I get to try your Gold Standard polish, Thank you!@@diydetailofficial
Enjoy, and please share your results in our facebook group

What is the recommended GSM of a microfiber towel for applying Ceramic Gloss? What microfiber towel do you use to apply Ceramic Gloss in your videos?
DIY Detail Ceramic Gloss is up to you. Whatever you’re comfortable with.
how long would a coating last if its unopened, and how long would it be usable for after opened once? and is applicator reusable or nope
One year unopened, 3-6 months opened. Yes you can reuse the applicator if cleaned
You guys are awesome. Quick question; after applying the 8yr ceramic coating, we have to wait for 8 hours; during that time dust particles would accumulate on the surface, so do we wash again prior to applying graphene or we are good to go?
2-8 hours, simply use a plush MF towel to dust.
The same concept would apply after we complete the polish and finish the day off with a panel prep. The next day we can use plush MF to dust then apply ceramic wait dust and then apply graphene
A little off topic but those red foam applicators can they be used with waxes and polishes as well as ceramics?
Yes
Is this product available in South Africa, and where may I buy it-it looks incredibly simple to use
Not yet, please ask you favourite distributor to import DIY Detail
I am thinking of doing "the stack" but I may have to do it in a two-day process on my vehicle parked outside. If I do all my wash, chemical/physical decon and polishing on the first day; for the second day since the vehicle will be parked outside overnight, should I just use a quick rinseless/waterless wash first or just a hit of panel prep should be enough before applying the first coating?
That’s perfect.
Is the 2-8 hr application of 2ed coating also temp/humidity dependent meaning in high temp/humid lean toward the 2-hr interval? In a high temp/humidity environment is there ever an issue w/ the coating drying on the applicator and needing more than 1 applicator? Thanks
No worries, each coating comes with an applicator
Do you wash between the polish and ceramic ? Or just wiping the polish is enough ?
We use panel prep
Gotta try the stack at some point. Thx for the video. I was hoping to share some insane water behaviour on a clients car that I'd recently applied the 5 year coating to but your facebook page doesnt seem to allow this :(
You can share in our facebook group.

Just ordered 8,3 stack for my white porsche ! Any advice for white cars ?! Very hard to see the high spots
Be very methodical
What towel do you use. I want to do that this summer on my car
It's in the description:) Here are the towels we used--
COATING LEVELING TOWEL: bit.ly/CoatingLevelingTowel
PLUSH BUFFING TOWEL: bit.ly/PlushBuffingTowel
Can I use any of these coatings on a gel coated boat and still get longevity like on a painted automobile?
Yes they can be used.
Before applying the second layer do you need to use panel prep on the entire surface ?
Amazing video! Just made my purchase I can’t wait to apply it
No, apply the 5 or 8 year, wait 2-8 hours, then apply the 3 year.
Thank you for a response!! How long is the shelf life on the ceramic and graphene once it’s been open ??
And back to the NO on the panel prep before applying the 3 layer. In the perfect world we’d have the car inside in a control environment away from elements. But what if the car is outside through the entire process. How do we deal with any debri or anything like that before applying the second coat?? All I have is a car port. So my car is always exposed to the elements but I’m glad I don’t have to work in direct sunlight. Thank you in advance
When determining the "usable life" of your coatings, what percentage is that based on? 40% of it left? 10 percent? Zero?
For example, most people don't use all of the tread on their tires, most of us assume them to be unusable at maybe 30% or so.
The only way to remove the coating is through abrasion. As long as you don’t abrade it with a polish or very poor wash techniques, it will not wear off.
I blacked the badges and lettering on my car with hyperdip product, came out really nice. Can I ceramic coat over the product? I am thinking best to remove, coat, then come back and try to black out. Also is it okay to coat over car cameras (rear, side etc) and sensors?
You can coat over all of those
I meant the 3 year ceramic coating,,, okay to coat over the hyperdip black out badges and lettering ... right?
How should we store the ceramic coatings. Until we use them. Is there a certain temperature and humidity. To keep them in. Unopened ?
Room temperature
Would doing the Stack using the 3 year ceramic coating for both stacks increase the protection, and if so, by what amount?
No, 2 layers of the same coating is a waste of your time.
Can you coat a vehicle in stages? Like half of it one weekend and the other half the next weekend!
Yes, but to do the stack you must respect the 2-8 hour window. The application of the coating is not long at all, it should take less than an hour. Here’s a video in real time.

Everyone smash that like button!
Thanks!
Am I right in assuming you can use these coatings on wheels too?
Yes no problem
So no topper to help it cure for the week in the elements?
No need
Do you prefer the same ceramic coat on windows or glass specific ceramics ?
Same everywhere
What kind of towel was Nick using for the leveling?
A pearl weave towel.
Here are the towel links:)

Thanks you! Great video as always!
What’s your thoughts on applying ceramics on ppf? Will it add its protection?
you can absolutely coat PPF! We recommend it, it just adds gloss, slickness and self cleaning ability to the surface of your film
Which ceramic coating would you recommend for PPF? 3yr, 5 yr, or 8 yr?
They all work great.
If I am understand it correctly when you stack the 8 year coating with the 3 year coating you are a creating a new coating. What is the projected longevity of the stack? 8 years? 3 years? Or somewhere in the middle?
Over 8 years.
Yvan, ton ancien coating chez Roar etait oleophobe, est ce de meme pour ceux ci?
Aussi oleophobe si pas plus.
If the car is a garage queen, will stacking the 5 year with the 3 year add more gloss? Will there be a considerable difference in gloss?
Yup, for maximum gloss 5+3 year is your best bet over the 8+3.
Yes, more gloss and depth.
What is the difference in the 8, 5 and 3 year coatings and then on top of that what is the difference in the 8&3 and 5&3 year stacks? I thought I heard before but don't know which video it was.

@@diydetailofficial Thank you!
What to do if the car gets quite dirty and muddy on day 3 or 4 of the coating, since we cannot wash it until day 7?
You wait
Can I apply the coatings on top of Plasti-Dip? I blacked out my chrome emblems, door handles and (smoked out) taillights.
No
No but you can apply ceramic gloss
Exotic cars also tend to just sit in the garage a majority of the time, they don’t even need coatings. Regular wax or sealants last so long on them.
Every car can benefit from a coating.
Will one bottle be enough for a suburban?
Yes
Pro tip!
Remove the license plate and coat the entire panel. Also coat the license plate.
Yes
This video hasn’t even been up for more than 2 days and the package of products for this is already sold out? Definitely have officially decided to stick to optimum after this. Each time I have tried to purchase from you guys, something is always sold out. Why is that? I can’t have a business depend of something that just only appears to be available only “here or there” like come on, that’s ridiculous. Not knocking the quality of the products and techniques used but availability is definitely an important part of being able to run a business. I’ll still be watching videos as this system seems to basically be just like optimum.
Yvan is the one who developed all the techniques taught by Optimum. Unfortunately our growth is overwhelming, but we are finally catching up.
Has anyone stacked the 3 Year with 5 Year? If so, how did that come out? Even glossier?
It’s quite popular.
@@diydetailofficial I wonder how it compares to the 8 yr stack in gloss?
5/3 has slightly more gloss, 8/3 has slightly better hydroponics.
For a newer luxury vehicle that has hydrophobic glass for the side windows, would you advise a coating?
Also is there literature or a video you could link me to with more information about your coatings being lifetime?
If the windows are hydrophobic, no need to coat them.
Most coatings last longer than their advertised durability.
If i apply the 3 year over the 5 year ( whit in 2-3 hr) what average durability ? , does i have a 5 yr durability but wiht out the water spot résistance after 3 yr ? Many thanks
The durability will be slightly better
@@diydetailofficial if i understand , the water spot résistance ciuld be à little bit longer than 3 year ? Whit the stack 3-5 yr
Yes
Many thanks keep your good work
With a bottle of 3yr and one bottle of 5yr ( the stack) , how many véhicule, around , can i apply . Just the paint work , for id4 vw , sorento, kona .. to have idea ?
Can I stack a 5 year with a 3 or 8 year?
Stack the 5 with the 3
Start with a 3 and then a 5 for the gloss value?
5 firsts, then 2-8 hours later the 3
Please add an option to backorder. As Fry would say, "Shut up and take my money!".
