Shoutout to the owner of this wonderful example of a GSX. These are rare nowadays.
Plus great job Ivan and Nick!
Thank you, yes it’s a great example!
I need you guys to know, that aside from Pan(because even you Yvan know, Pan is top notch for a one-man band)…you and Nick are literally the most inspiring and influential team out there!! I am already so passionate about the detailing industry-but you guys bring a level of motivational finesse like no other! I just purchased a major product haul from your line and CANNOT wait to dive into the world of DIY Detail! Thank you soooooo much for all you guys do and share with the world ❤
Kristi, thank you so much for the kind words and support!!!! We appreciate that more than you know
Washing a coated vehicle is amazing, eagerly awaiting 1 week to pass so I can have fun washing mine.
Excellent, you will enjoy it.
I love the fact that you don’t have to tape the hell out the car rubber trims.
Thank you
This is one of the few polishes where it’s possible. Many other polishes contain strong solvents that will stain trim. Also, any aggressive microfiber or wool pad will still damage trim no matter how safe your polish is. For an enhancement like this with a trim-safe polish and a finishing pad, not strictly necessary.
So only need to tape up if using a wool or microfibre pad?
Or stay away from the trim
Great video! Thanks for demonstrating the ease of application of your new coatings!
Thank you
Thank you Yvan and Nick! Another great video. I love how you leave the BS and mystique out of ceramic coating!
Thank you
Great vid/content! Ordered my first bottle of Gold Standard today!
Thank you
Great, clear explanations! Very detailed. Gives me confidence doing my own coatings...
You got this 😀
My gosh that is a beautiful DSM! I also have a 97 GSX. Beautiful, and clearly well taken care of and loved.
Yes it’s a very loved car.
Excellent job guys.
thank you!
I recently started a detailing company and definitely want to offer this to my customers and will definitely buy your products
Thank you
They are not kidding about the easy to clean. I put the DIY Detail original coating on my 2023 Si. Now doing a wash with their rinseless and using ceramic gloss as a drying aid is so easy and gratifying. Coating performance is excellent, and you need very little ceramic gloss when drying. I honestly love their products.
Thank you!
Great vid guys! I was surprised and pleased to see that this can be used for the windscreen too. 👍 If possible could you show some water behaviour videos for each coating. I’m sure they will all be very similar but it’s super satisfying to watch!! Thanks. Bri.
We will eventually.
man this bring back memories. I use to work at Mitsubishi as a tech back in 2000-2001
They are fun cars.
Great video, guys . it was ironic to get I just ordered your 3 year shremick coding, and I'm waiting on in the mail now, so it was good. Timing that I saw that video, and that's always you guys did a great job.
Thank you
Thanks guys
You bet
I can't wait to get all 3 of these on my test panel and do some long term testing and updates on them over time.
Excellent, looking forward to seeing that.
Great work guys. Way to tag team this one.
Thank you
Love your vids as usual guys tnx:)
Could you do a video on how to polish the tough to reach areas? I mean the really tough ones; for example a piano black grill or behind the door handles, etc..
thanks!
Thank you, good idea
Love to see a video of a car that had a previous ceramic coating and re-apply your DIY coating. Steps and procedures.
coming soon....to Yvan's FIAT lol
This is why you guys are my favorite! Simple and great results!👍👍👍👍
Thank you
Came out great. I can't wait see if the gold polish can take out a lot of scratches and swirls marks.
It can!
Can you use the circular motion? Applicating with all ceramic coatings or just yours specific? I love your videos and how simple you make it look. Keep up the great work
All of them
Great video guys
Thank you!
@@diydetailofficial what pads and products would you recommend from your line for beginners?
Did you guys apply Panel Prep after polishing or is the Rinseless on the pad being used as the Panel Prep? Thanks for the amazing content guys, I’ve learned something significant with every video. I’ve purchased a bundle of products, completely improved our process at our shop. Thank you!!!
Yes, after wiping off polish we applied panel prep to every exterior surface - sorry we didn’t showcase that!! Thank you 💪
You Guys have the best content on the web! You have the answer to every question.
Thank you
Thank you for this awesome tutorial. Please could you give us details about polish machine ???
It’s a low cost random orbital sander
My mind is blown. Using a regular sander to get great results is a fantastic method.
Probably not best for defect removal and I would love to see a gloss meter comparison between the car as is and after your polish method.
Are there any plans to have DIY Detail products available in the UK/Europe any time soon? 🤞
Thank you , yes products are on the way to In 2 Details.
I love the fact that you show amazing tricks for the everyday user ! For those who don’t know . When you are detaling a car, it’s easy to get it to 80% perfection pretty fast, the last 20% is the difficult part. There is almost no point in spent hours or days correcting a daily driven car that gets expose a lot. Eventually, that car because it’s daily driven will get scratched again or things happen in everyday use. However, if it is a show car orna weekend car, that is another deal, and that is another conversation about what tools and technique use !
Thank you
This cleared up more questions I had! Thank you guys. The gloss you see after the polish is definitely noticeable same with the. Gloss after coating it. 💪
Thank you
Great demo! Which of your towels would you recommend for the first and second steps of leveling the coating?
Our Standard Edgeless Buffing Towel.
I use ONR on my Windshield washer reservoir. 256:1 does marvels. Softens the water so my washer lines do not clog up
Nice
Keep up the great work guys!
thanks Isaiah!
How many passes for the polishing process? Love your products btw!
3 is our go too.
This might be silly question, I am still learning about ceramic coatings. Do they help with cleaning bugs? Especially on a daily that does all highway. I appreciate your time and help.
Yes, a good ceramic will definitely help
Excellent video - how does a coating system such as this compare to say a coating like Roar?
Both great coatings
Hey Ivan/Nick. Thanks for all the great content.
Can you guys suggest a ratio to start experimenting with a 1:64 ONR/Beadmaker as an interior clean/protect product.
I was thinking of trying 70/30% but would love a second opinion.
Our suggestion it to use DIY Detail Interior Clean & Protect. We don’t use those other products, so you will need to experiment.
Well, it's fascinating to see how fast and simple the process of coating can be. I haven't happened to do any ceramic coating yet, but it looks like applying a ceramic topper, only needing just a little more caution. That's a more general question, but I believe it applies to your coatings too. If the paint feels not slick and towels are a little "draggy" after having properly preped the car (decon wash), does it mean that the coating has faded away? In case of your coatings, would you simply reapply it or polish and then re apply? Keep it up!
When it feels “draggy” it needs mechanical decontamination. A true coating doesn’t fade away, it must be removed with abrasion. It’s best to lightly polish before applying a new coating.
@@diydetailofficial Thank you for your response! I appreciate it and it actually help me clear things out a little better!
My paint looks really good and it beads great from the current wax coating. Should I use polish to remove the wax before applying a ceramic coating? Or is just washing and using the prep spray sufficient before applying the ceramic coating? Also, should I use a soapy wash before applying? Or is the rinse less wash sufficient before the prep spray and applying a ceramic coating?
You should polish to remove all traces of wax. DIY Detail Rinseless Wash or DIY Detail Incredible Suds, your choice.
This is why you guys are seriously the best.
I still want to know the benefits off adding the rinsless wash to the pad before polishing? Does it just help to prime it?
And to help keep it from clogging?
It helps cool the pad, makes it easier to control, eliminates the possibility of dry polishing, and your pads will last longer.
@@diydetailofficial Awesome, Thanks.
@@diydetailofficial I see that you used the Rinselss wash as a panel prep!? I take it the Gold Standard polish doesn't leave a lot of residuals?
Was Nick first wiping the coating with the damp cloth first? Or were both of those dry?
Both dry
I owned that same model and year. Definitely miss it. Buy a nice body car for 10k put 20k into it and it will be stupid fast, reliable and beat any factory vehicles 4 times the price except maybe a tesla plaid at least in a drag race. I will I could get an interior like these had now days vary simple and easy to maintain and look awsome.
such a cool car
Can you please tell me how long to wait after finishing all coating for the customer to go home
And how long should we wait to wipe with soft cloth again after coating some body parts while we havent coat the other parts
I hour before driving away, you can wipe with no pressure immediately.
You didn't tell us the reason why pads need to be damp before polishing?
Lubrication, cooling, better results
When will you folks be getting the decontamination towel back in stock
hopefully very soon!
5:50 Its not bad to remind people to follow and like. I use to forget for the longest time. But it means a lot and only tskes a moment.
exactly! We don't like to be obnoxious about it, but it's good every once in a while:)
Just applied in Florida and was able to let it sit in the sun for about 3 hours before it started raining. Any tips on if I should do a rinse-less wash when the rain clears up or just wait a week to touch it?
No need to worry, the coating is good to get wet in an hour.
What machines are those? Love how small they are.
Dual Action Sanders, one from Menards and the other from Home Depot. Don't have the exact models in front of me but they're both under $100, the Menards model was roughly $20 if memory serves
Looking forward to using this coating. Still okay to use Ceramic Gloss as a drying aid over a graphene based coating or will that negate the water spot resistance effect? I prefer rinseless washing and like using a drying aid (even though the rinseless provides some benefit there).
DIY Detail Ceramic Gloss is fine
Good question
I’m need a link for that palm sander
We’ve bought a few for videos, I believe the yellow one is from Home Depot but the cheaper one we’ve found is red and from Menards not sure of the brand
After the panel prep, then fine to coat? The iso spray or panel prep doesn't leave anything behind? So no need to do a final rinse?
Correct.
As far as water removal is concerned which does this coating do more..sheet water or bead water?
Both, with a pressure washer it will bead , with a hose it will sheet.
My random orbital sander has 6 speeds. Can you advise on what speed to use 1-6? Thanks!
If the stroke is under 5mm, speed 5-6
Can I put the ceramic coating on black vinyl tape if I black out my chrome trim?
Yes
As someone new to being a DIYer this seems like the most intimidating part of detailing to get into - apply power tools to your cars paint! How would you know you need to do this? What is it you are trying to get out of doing this? Is this to get rid of the small marring and scratches? Thanks.
Big question, but basically you're trying to amp up the gloss and prepare your vehicle for a last step protection product. You want clean paint, the coating doesn't care if you have scratches. Polishing is a deep clean step that also gives you shine! This podcast should be helpful: ua-cam.com/video/_LkD2pUHKdM/v-deo.html
@@diydetailofficial Thank you!
Excellent recommendations. I hope you guys didn't have to correct the coating that Nick forgot to level below the spoiler (as Mr Yvan pointed out at 11:50) and level it off camera 😅
We were able to level it.
@@diydetailofficial I'm a fan of your work, so I hope Nick doesn't take it as criticism, I was just worried that you guys would spot it when reviewing, I understand it's hard to focus while you're working and you have to explain your processes to the audience.
Once I open a bottle of your ceramic coating how long of a shelf life does it have before I have to use it or before it goes bad? (hardens)
About a year if kept in a cool dry place
The palm polisher for ease of use more or less? Darn, this is a great method. I have definitely learned a lot of good tips to put into practice from this channel. Glad I found this channel through Pan the organizer!
You bet! Yes, ease of use for sure and more than anything....accessibility. Easy to find, many people already have them sitting around the garage
@@diydetailofficial Awesome! Thanks for the reply, always greatly appreciated.
I still have the first ceramic coating unused, noticed it's gone from the site. Where does the first coating line-up compared to these? Is there different chemicals involved compared to these?
Yes it’s different chemistry, but still a great 3 year coating.
Finally first!! Regards from México
nicely done:)
@@1stfrompuertorico568 jaja por fin te gané Humberto,, saludos compadre
So I got my Mustang Ceramic coated about a year ago. Never had a garage until recently so the car was almost outside with a cover but has hard water spots. Any recommendations on how to remove them?
You can go through the process almost like you would prep for a coating, wash, decon, then apply water spot remover to wet paint (agitate in and rinse) then go for a light polish and re coat
Ok so I’m going to miss you guy at TOC supplies in Vaughn as I be working 😢 but now you guys have a 8 year coating I don’t see it in TOC Website
They will have it soon
@@diydetailofficial that’s great for me as I’m hoping in the next few weeks as I have quite a few cars coming up in the next several weeks so my big question is I was going to use dura slick as it’s Professional 7 year coating great for Canada 🇨🇦 winter ❄️ but with your new 8 year coating will be just as good ?
Yes, it’s also winter friendly.
You only used 1 applicator, 1 short MF and 1 plush MF for the whole car? Can these applicator/towels be used again if they are washed or soaked immediately after finishing the application. The detailed explanations during your video gives me the same level of confidence as if you were standing in my garage while I'm applying the ceramic coating, almost.
Yes, only one of each, and if soaked in your wash bucket right after use, then washed, they can Be reused.
The only thing you're missing with them not in the garage with you is Yvan saying "you missed a spot" 😂❤ trust me I know, I've been detailing almost a year and haven't done a coating yet, watching these guys as often as possible. I will be using DIY as my first coating for sure. Have used lots of quick beads and ceramic gloss with excellent results 👌
Great question
How recommend remove the polish? With a damp microfiber towel with the rinseless wash or without damp it?,, Or it doesnt matter?
Use a Rinseless Wash dampened towel for the polish wipe off, and then a dry towel to dry the panel. Short nap towels tend to work best, but try different towels and see what you like!
You don't have to use a surface/panel prep after polishing and before coating?
You don't have to but I would absolutely recommend it. Sorry if we left this step out!! Good catch, we did it off camera...we were going to film two separate videos on polishing/coating but decided to combine the two for today's launch day
Yvan is a walking/working detailing encyclopedia.
Thank you
What are the differences between your original ceramic coating and these new ones? Is the original pretty close to the new 3 year coating?
The previous coating is still a good coating, yes it’s a 3 year coating.
I applied your 5 year coating how long before the first wash?
7 days
How do you recommended cleaning the clearcoat off the waffle pad in between sections if you don't have a pad washer?
Dip pad into rinseless wash bucket and wring it out, put it back on polisher and free spin until lightly damp
@@diydetailofficial I've done 3 cars with your Gold Standard system and this cleaning method has really made the jobs easier and polishing much smoother and more consistent. I just run my polisher on speed 6 like I saw in your other videos and it works like a charm.
Is this new three year much different than the coating you guys had come out with?
Very different, this doesn’t make the previous coating bad, but the new one is improved in every way
Do your ceramic coatings apply to wheels, trim, etc as well? I know many try and sell separate coatings for each but that involves a lot more $$.
Also, how long is flash time in like 95° hot summer?
Yes you can use them on all exterior surfaces. Yes it can be applied in hot temperatures.
What would you suggest the flash time would be for hot weather?
30 seconds to a minute.
How would you strip off previous wheel protection before coating? Also, would ceramic gloss an hour after application protect from the bird bomb or bugs during the first week?
I would think a heavy concentration of All Clean foamed on the wheels and some type of 'strip' wash/clay towel after would get the wheels pretty close - and a panel prep spray right before...
On the Ceramic Gloss...my best guess would be not to do that so soon after the coating is applied. I feel like giving the coating the same week they recommend before washing is probably the best bet.
John’s answer for the wheel is perfect. For the Ceramic Gloss, wait at least 2 hours before applying.
@@diydetailofficial would it be possible to maybe hand polish the wheels if they’re still hydrophobic after chemicals?
Yes
Even though it’s safe to drive an hour after application, for those of us that are paranoid - are the coatings safe to be used with a product like CarPro Release?
Cheers!
not sure, haven't tried that product. best to leave the coated vehicle overnight, but car can be driven after an hour if that's all you have
Can your coating be used to restore faded trim and protect them?
To protect yes, to restore no.
The 2022+ WRX has a lot of bare black plastic on the bumpers and textured (honeycomb) black plastic fender flares and side skirts. Would the coating be okay to use on these panels? Not sure how the textured plastic interacts with leveling coatings.
It works well. That said Coating a plastic can lead to an issue in the future. If the plastic does fade you can’t restore it without removing the coating.
@@diydetailofficial thanks
At what speed do you run that sander?
Full speed because of the very short throw.
Hey, 20k! Congratulations!
It would be a shame to tow the high end exotic behind the bus.😁
Are you saying the Fiat isn’t a high end exotic 😉? Thanks for your continued support!
No, I believe everyone is saying that a Fiat 500 is not a high end exotic.😁 Not even an Abarth.
Can this coating be applied to trim and glass?
Yep!
Would this method work on a 89 jaguar heavly oxidation if not what do you suggest
Yes
every paint is different, is it original paint? If so, be careful and cautious and just very gentle with the polishing. This method would work, but if you've never polished before you might run into issues you're not sure how to trouble shoot. Just be aware of that, don't let it scare you away though. With that said, make sure to wash and decontaminate the paint first and then try this method in an inconspicuous area as your polishing test spot
Thank u. Do you offer any training
Curious though. Does the sanders have speed control? Also, Isn’t the sander speed faster than the usual DA or rotary? If so, how do you go about it?
They are mostly single speed. Because of the small orbit, it doesn’t cause any problems.
@@diydetailofficial got it. So quick passes instead?
No need
@@diydetailofficial i see. Will try this one. Thanks!
Does it require to foam undercarriage/underbody or not required and why?
this is not an undercarriage coating
@@diydetailofficial I mean for washing undercarriage/underbody
After the ceramic coating is applied and cured, would it be ok to use Gold Standard Polish again as a maintenance product?
Very lightly
Ok, I notice the kits come with gold standard. I will probably maintain with Ceramic Gloss spray.@@diydetailofficial
It comes with DIY Detail Gold Standard Polish to prep, not to maintain.
What do you think of using the 5-year coat and then using the 3-year kn top of that ? Is it useless?
That is great, we call it the Stack. For the best results, wait 2-8 hours before applying the 3 year after the 5 year has been applied.
@@diydetailofficial Thanks. Great channel and products by the way.
How many bottles should I get to coat a truck

no panel prep/wipe needed before coating application?
It’s not necessary but I would absolutely do it, sorry we left that step out of this video!
@@diydetailofficial no problem I thought maybe I even missed it so I went back in the video and checked I ordered the five-year coating today. I'm looking forward to testing it out!
Do you recommend cleaning the pads using the rinseless method after each panel or how often? Thanks
After each 2x2 section go ahead and clean the pads using a pad washer: ua-cam.com/users/shorts1syZOhBUC4w
The gloss just amplifies as it goes! An hour is phenomenal! Something a pro detailer can become profitable from!
We all know the benefits of a coating, this just says it all!
I can't wait to try it but do I want 3, 5 or 8? That is the question
Go with the characteristics that best fit your needs.
can the coating be layered (2-3 layer) or is this meant to be a 1 layer only coating?
I layer. If you insist on layering, then wait a minimum of 2 hours, maximum of 8 before adding a second layer.
@@diydetailofficial thanks! Just ordered the 3yr, will give it a try 👍
Thank you
How much would you charge a customer for this service?
$1000-1500
I have ppf on door edges, will this polish leave residue on the edges?
No, it’s easy to wipe off.
@@diydetailofficial thank you, just ordered some
@@tmk2280 thank you
I actually like those 8mm throw polishers as they are light and easy to use. These are great wax and sealant tools too. The coating was super glossy after only being applied ten minutes. Do all of your coatings have a release time of one hour? Thank you for another great video!
Thank you, yes 1 hour minimum
@@diydetailofficial the release time is amazing and needs to be talked about more!
@@neilwalker5041 what does release time mean?
@@CVMarius the time frame a customer has to wait before a detailer can let the customer drive the vehicle. A few years ago the customer had to wait 24 hours after the coating was applied.
@@neilwalker5041 thank you
What were the small sanders you were using for polishing? Thanks ☺️
Standard hardware store random orbital sanders
@@diydetailofficial Did they have the round backing pads on them or did you change them out ?
Why not the red pad?
That will work as well.
@@diydetailofficial I just asked because I thought the yellow pad was more on the rougher side. I'm liking the products more and more just trying to refine the information. As I've said in the past, sometimes all the information gets confusing especially watching multiple channels but yours alone as well.
So does this take swirls out?
Polishing will take out most swirls depending on how severe and your individual paint, the goal here with this DIY friendly method is “shiny scratches”…not going for perfection but clean and shiny paint that you can then apply the coating to
no panel wipe/prep needed before coating??
No prep before ceramic?
Yes, you should use panel prep. You technically don’t NEED to, since the Gold Standard Polish doesn’t have any fillers, but it’s best practice for coating longevity. Sorry we left out this step in the video!!
@@diydetailofficial Ahh, good to know.
🎉
Thank you.
Can’t wait to get my hands on all 3!!!!
Quick questions.. let’s say it’s a perfect day with perfect temp.. will you be able to coat a whole escalade first then level it out/wipe, once done? Or you guys recommend doing a panel then wiping off after 5 min or so?
Thanks guys!
They are very specific about the 5 minute open time. On an Escalade, probably 2 large panels and then level.
5 mins is best
Wait a minimum of one minute. You want 50% of the coating on the surface to flash, or disappear. At that point, go ahead and level with a short nap towel. Then follow with a separate towel to knock down any potential high spots. Timing will totally vary depending on temperature/humidity. If your towel is getting wet with product, you need to wait longer. If it's getting impossible to wipe off panel, you've waited too long. If you have that happen, where it's just not coming off the paint. Go over the section with your coating applicator and level it immediately with a towel. You should be good to go!
